Fo’ what? For da upcoming book UchinaAmerican: Anthology of Okinawan American Art and Literature
Fo’ why? Cuz brah, whenevah you pop open one Asian American Literary Anthology you see planny Asian American groups stay represent, but what about us Uchinaanchu? Das why editors Lee A. Tonouchi, Wesley Ueunten and Laura Kina like rectify dis oversight.
We stay looking for creative and critical works by Okinawan Americans dat explore da history of Okinawans in da United States and what it means for be Okinawan American.
We stay open to submissions by Okinawan Americans in anykine genres that can work on top da printed page. You can submit your munugatai, mo‘o ‘ōlelo, short story, essay, poetry, slam poetry, spoken word piece, concrete poetry, play script, screenplay, comic strip, painting, illustration, tattoo art, graffiti art, textile art, sculpture, photographs, musical composition, even your stand-up comedy bit, pretty much whatevah you can tink of. We stay open to all forms of creative expression.
Works must be by persons of Okinawan American ancestry. Critical essays should be accessible and not overly academic.
