It has come to light that the Punjab government has incurred significant financial losses due to the inadequate utilization of the health cards in government hospitals.

The incompetence of the primary healthcare department has been cited as a major factor contributing to this loss worth millions of rupees to the exchequer, despite the low utility of the facility.

In December last year, more than 96,000 patients were admitted to hospital, out of which only 27,000 were treated on the health card, as per records available with Samaa TV.

The government had to spend extra money to treat 71% of patients in December. Even in January 2024, the government had to pay additional treatment costs for 71% of patients.

In February 2024, patient admissions on health cards fell by another 2%, the records show. As a consequence, the Punjab government has had to allocate additional funds from the treasury to cover the treatment expenses of a significant portion of patients in government hospitals.

Moreover, the government is also bearing the burden of paying premiums to the State Life Insurance Company.

Punjab Health Company Chief Executive Officer Ali Razzaq said they took notice of the low usage of the health card in government hospitals and have directed the hospitals to make more use of the facility.

“The use of health cards is being increased in government hospitals,” Razzaq claimed.

The federal government has made a significant decision regarding wheat imports and flour exports, aiming to address the country's food supply concerns.

The Ministry of Commerce issued a notification amending the Import Policy Order to permit the import of wheat and the export of flour.

This move marks a departure from the previous stance taken by the caretaker federal cabinet, which had approved a ban on flour exports on February 29, 2024. Notably, the decision to ban flour exports was initially introduced during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in 2019, primarily to curb smuggling activities.

With this latest decision, the government seeks to manage the wheat supply chain more effectively, ensuring stability in domestic markets while also capitalizing on export opportunities for flour.

This strategic shift is expected to have significant implications for the agricultural and trade sectors, offering new avenues for economic growth and stability.

New Zealand has raised concerns with China over an alleged state-sponsored cyberattack on its parliament in 2021, echoing similar accusations made by the United States and Britain. Foreign Minister Winston Peters emphasized the unacceptable nature of foreign interference and urged China to refrain from such activities in the future.

The disclosure coincides with broader accusations against China for conducting cyberespionage operations, which have been denounced by Australia and New Zealand. However, China's embassy in New Zealand rejected these accusations as groundless and irresponsible, stating their opposition to such claims.

The New Zealand government announced findings linking the cyber activity to Advanced Persistent Threat 40 (APT40), a Chinese state-sponsored actor connected to the Ministry of State Security. While sensitive data was accessed, no critical information was deleted, but the threat posed by such cyber activities remains a concern.

a.

Australia's ministers issued a joint statement condemning persistent attacks on democratic institutions, highlighting the need to address such behavior. In the past, cyberattacks originating from China have targeted political entities and organizations, leading to heightened vigilance among affected nations.

The ongoing scrutiny of cyber activities underscores the importance of cybersecurity measures and international cooperation to mitigate threats to national security and democratic processes. It also emphasizes the need for clear communication and diplomatic efforts to address concerns related to cyber espionage and foreign interference.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has devised a policy aimed at streamlining the issuance of passports for overseas Pakistani Hajj pilgrims participating in the private Hajj scheme.

This policy comes as a welcome relief for thousands of Pakistani nationals residing abroad who faced prolonged delays in obtaining passports, hindering their ability to perform the sacred pilgrimage.

It is aimed at facilitating the passport issuance and renewal process for overseas Pakistanis. As the efforts of the Religious Affairs Ministry bear fruit, the passports will be issued soon.

Under the newly formulated policy, the clearance process for pilgrims with dual citizenship will be expedited, with authorities mandated to complete the clearance within seven days. If clearance is not granted within this timeframe, automatic clearance will be assumed, ensuring swift processing for the pilgrims.

Upon receiving clearance, the pilgrims will be issued temporary passports. Previously, Pakistani nationals with dual citizenship had to wait for months to get their passports issued.

Sources within the Ministry of Religious Affairs revealed that passport authorities had been informed of the urgency of the situation.

It was also reported that last month, passport authorities successfully processed passports for 28,000 government-sponsored Hajj pilgrims within a span of three days.

Furthermore, the sources emphasized that the non-issuance of passports on time was affecting the biometric verification process, ensuring that all pilgrims can complete the necessary procedures without undue delays.

Al-Qaeda has reportedly begun reestablishing its presence in Afghanistan, capitalizing on the environment fostered by the Afghan Taliban's ascent to power.

Following the Taliban's takeover, various terrorist organizations, including Tehreek-i-Taliban Afghanistan (TTP) and Al-Qaeda, have found sanctuary, allowing them to thrive.

Al-Qaeda's resurgence in !

With the in power, terrorist organizations like Al-Qaeda and have found safe havens to thrive, posing a threat not just to Afghanistan but to neighboring countries as well. The strategic foothold provided by Afghanistan has historically made it a breeding ground for terrorist activities, with neighboring countries bearing the brunt of these threats, according to reports cited by Al Jazeera.

Reports indicate that Al-Qaeda has been leveraging its ties with the Taliban to facilitate global terrorist operations, including trafficking and drug trade. Notably, the group has been financing its operations through lucrative ventures in gold mining, particularly in northern Badakhshan and other Afghan provinces.

Despite the Taliban's monthly revenue of $25 million from gold mines, such income remains conspicuously absent from official budgets, raising concerns about financial transparency.

Since assuming power in August 2021, the Taliban has integrated numerous listed terrorist factions into its ranks, as highlighted by both the United Nations Security Council and the US Congress.

There are allegations of the Taliban furnishing Al-Qaeda operatives with weaponry, passports, and access to smuggling networks, bolstering the latter's resurgence.

05/03/2024

The Afghan Taliban's promise of not allowing Afghan territory to be used for terrorism against neighboring countries has proven to be mere rhetoric. They have failed to take any concrete action against the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants while plunging Pakistan into turmoil.

Typically, any new govt prioritizes the welfare of its people upon assuming power, working on development and prosperity projects.

However, the Afghan Taliban has shown a lack of attention to infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and other developmental projects.

Recent heavy snowfall in the Sar-e Pol and Kunduz provinces of Afghanistan has resulted in the deaths of nearly 20 people and approximately 8,000 livestock, with around 600 households in Kunduz now at risk due to the lack of infrastructure.

Representatives of the Afghan govt have admitted their incompetence, attributing the failure to save livestock and endangering people's lives to the lack of proper facilities in Afghanistan.

The Afghan Taliban's governance in Afghanistan has left countless Afghan people grappling with numerous problems, and their claims of nameless good governance remain unsubstantiated.

If the Afghan Taliban wishes to improve their country's condition, they must focus on addressing issues rather than creating issues in the region.
