Runaway Strategist Part-TIme Digital Nomad // Hacking Millennial Life. Let's Redesign the Way We Work, Travel and Live. I look for the tools and tricks to help us have it all.

Hello,
I’m Liz, a Part-Time Digital Nomad and Presenter from Sydney, Australia. I'm trying to blur the lines between work and play... to hack millennial life! From dream careers, travel, wellbeing and business, we're the brat generation with everything at our finger tips. But it all starts with personal development. If we don't embark on a journey of 'growth,' we'll never know what we're capable o

f. "The level of your success will rarely exceed your level of personal growth" -Hal Elrod. Ever since I took an interest in personal growth, I've been able to define my work/ life values and philosophy. Hence in 2015, I was finally able to leave my 9-5 and work as a freelance marketing strategist. I've transitioned into digital nomad life and have traveled to some beautiful places like Siargao in the Philippines, Israel and Hawaii. But life isn't about quitting your job just so you can travel... it's about creating a career you don't feel like running away from! Maybe I sound like a 'self-improvement' Bible basher right now but f%ck it lol... it's been the key to exploring life's full potential (for me) and I hope it will inspire you to think differently about yours! With the right strategies in place, life can be pretty amazing. Happy Reading!! Liz xx

11 days left before I move to Singapore! 🇸🇬

Things I’ll miss the most: Family and legendary mates, beach, Thor (family Puggle, my BABY BOY!)

Things I’m most excited for: Having an actual home base, taking on a new work challenge and more surf lessons when I can nip over to Siargao or Bali ha. 🌊

This little rugrat is ‘evolving’ from digital nomad to expat haha... in 3 weeks I’ll be moving to Singapore ! 🇸🇬

I’m taking on an exciting role with an awesome digital branding agency. Super excited for this next chapter, as I’ve been torn for some time now as to whether or not to continue the ‘digital nomad’ journey 🙃... but when the right opportunity comes along, ya get up and ride the wave 🌊😜.

Sydney will always be mi casa though! Anyways, I’ll still be writing on my Runaway Strategist blog on all things growth, travel, career and other life shenanigans. Hope to see you there or in my new home base ❤️ xx

Found this note from an old journal of mine (9/11/17): “Follow the pre-tense of accident” -Sharon Salzberg. ❤️

Much of my pivotal / favourite moments in my personal and professional life were born from ‘being at the right place at the right time.’ 🔮

From job interviews, going on random holidays, relationships, meeting new life long friends, through to meeting unofficial mentors... I think I’ve learned to find the beauty and value of the unexpected.🙃

God that sounds like the pre-lude to a pregnancy announcement. I’m DEF not! Anyways, I just wanted to share that quote from Shazza 😘❤️

Sometimes, opportunities disguise themselves as random light bulb moments. Don’t discount them, it might turn out to be your best decision yet! ❤️🌻 xx

28 Things I Wish I Knew (or Did Before 28)

Preview:
2. Life goes on after your first real break up. Dw, you’ll fall in love again.

4. Travel more by yourself.

10. Spend quality time with your parents. They’re getting older too!

18. You might not like your boss, but you have to respect them.

28. Remember, you’re exactly where you need to be in life. Be patient, work hard and be a good human. The rest will fall into place : )

It’s my birthday, 28 FEELIN’ GREAT! Everyone says your 20s are the best years of your life… but it doesn’t come without some trivial and ‘formative’ life lessons. Here’s what I learned:

Blushing 😚
"Without seemingly trying, Liz has created an authentic personal brand that is so likeable and relatable that you’d go to her to fix any business problem – far beyond brand and marketing.

She’s like the Apple of people. She doesn’t over complicate anything, working with her is seamless and you’d trust her to try something new and innovative because she’s brave and hungry."

Kara O'Mahony @ The Bee Collective wrote some pretty sweet thangs about my weird and wonderful journey. More here:

3 Reasons Why I'm Ready to Move on from 'Digital Nomad Life'...

Sometimes, dreams change. What happens when you realise “Oh, s**t maybe I’m growing out of this lifestyle?” Here’s 3 insights into why I might be ready to move on from the ‘millennial dream’ as a digital nomad.

What are 'meaningful conversations' and why do we need them?

Here's what I learned from Dr Jordan B Peterson's Rule 9: Assume the Person You are Listening to Knows Something You Don't.
1. Meaningful conversations begin with mutual exploration.
2. Humility and listening.
3. Our moral obligation to engage with one another.

What happens when you realise “Oh, s**t maybe I’m growing out of this lifestyle?” 🌴

The last 2.5 years have been THE BEST FUN!! Part-time nomad life aka. working remotely while travelling is THE millennial dream, but sometimes we grow quicker than expected... sometimes we wake up and think, “OK time to evolve and step up.” For me, that was “Ok, I think I’m a bit over this suitcase lifestyle.”😳

I’ve been thinking about this for a few months now, it’s hard because I love traveling but I also miss working with people and... yep sounds trivial, but I also miss wearing proper clothes and heels lol. 😜👠

ANYWAYS, join me as I map out my next few years... fingers crossed it will be just as dynamic, exciting and stimulating as the last 3! xx ❤️✈️🌴

Thanks HK for the dumplings, egg tarts, rain and amazing people I met! I thought I wanted to move here later in the year which is why I thought I’d scope the city out... 🤷🏽‍♀️

But sometimes expectations and reality are different (yeah you know them Insta hoes 😜). Anywhooo it has been a great little excursion but may not be the place for me to move to. I’ll def be back to visit though!❤️

So I guess that’s just what you have to do, go and check things out, try new things... because you never know what you’ll like or don’t like?! xx
Thanks 📸

Tell us about ‘Runaway Strategist ‘

“The name ‘Runaway Strategist’ came about because I was a 'strategist who wanted to runaway from her job.’ At 25, all I wanted was to become a digital nomad. I’ve been fortunate enough to take my work on the road and spend time in places like the Philippines, Colombia and Israel. But sometimes dreams and ambitions change.💁🏽‍♀️

Today I work as a freelance marketing strategist, presenter and blogger. I started my blog because I wanted to show people there were different ways to ‘design’ your life. For those who are unhappy at work, I wanted to show people that there are more options than the corporate slog or an e-commerce business owner per se. There are ways to integrate work and travel in your life. 🌴
But at the core of who I am, I’m trying to find the balance between work, travel and being a good human. I think career, travelling and personal development are all interconnected. I think they all contribute to what millennials would call a ‘fulfilling life.’ It’s through my blog, in which I hope to inspire others to redesign the way we work, travel and live.” 😍

🤷🏽‍♀️ This was an answer I gave in regards to an upcoming potential project. Point is, there are ways to redesign your work and life balance. There are sacrifices but it’s blooody worth it 😘 xx

The art of conversation and listening, is it a dying art?? 😳

Sometimes I want to talk about Brown Cardigan memes, other days I want to talk about Dr Jordan B Peterson and some days I just want to chat about Kourtney Kardahsian’s m**f rig 😜😍😂.... anyways you DON’T have to talk about serious s**t and complex ideas all the time, there’s nothing wrong with trivial banter. But if you want to develop your character, perspective and understanding of yourself and the world, you have to engage in meaningful conversations from time to time. 😉

We have to explore the unknown and talk to people outside our little bubble. So F your ego, stuck upishnessssss and say hello to someone you normally wouldn’t talk to! 😜❤️

Happy Sunday kids xx

“Sometimes you need to change the way you understand everything to properly understand a single thing.” Excerpt from Rule 9 by Dr Jordan B Peterson 😳😳😳.

It took me a while to unpack this, but I began to think about memory. Papa JP reminds us that ‘memory’ is not objective. Sometimes it’s our memory about something or someone that distorts our present decisions.

In his own words “the purpose of memory is not to remember the past... it’s to stop the same damn thing from happening over and over.” 😜👍. Gahhhh Papa JP, thanks for helping me get mah s**t together! xx

I started journaling 3 years ago, about the same time I was interested in ‘part-time digital nomad life.’ At first I thought only crazy people journaled... but it’s actually been one of the most therapeutic mind exercises!! 🙃

Journaling has helped me condense my thoughts and definitely saved me a few crazy outbursts with anyone I was dating 😳😜

Anyways, writing is an outlet which can save you from saying the wrong things out loud or making a bad decision in person... at the very least, if it’s lost and found I’m sure your/ my journal would make a great entertaining book 😂💃🏽

Ps. This pic was taken last year in and yes that’s a bruise on my knee... because what’s a trip without a bruise, scar or motorcycle burn from ... lol not really, I think I just ran into the bar 🍸

Lots of things make me happy eg. Sun, Tim Tams and Buenos 😍 ...anyways working by yourself/remotely can be VERY lonely, so lately it’s been my mission to go out and try new or ‘meaningful’ (god that sounds w***y) things. Here’s 3 things that made my week:

1. Doing my first podcast with and . So great to share stories about the reality of taking different career paths and exploring our passions 🙃

2. Spontaneously seeing different friends all in one day. You bloody soul hugs ❤️

3. Spending the morning at Macarthur Sustainability Centre and chatting to Anne about organic produce, bees, honey, education and the upcoming cheese making class!!! Delish. 🧀

What were your top 3 highlights?! Xx

White lies, black truths and moral principles.
How do you tell someone they have bad B.O? What if your gf needs a moustache wax?

Here's what I learned from Dr Jordan B Peterson's Rule #8: Tell the Truth (or at least don't lie).
1. Limit your white lies and black truths. Prioritise moral principles.
2. Don't be ignorant. Be aware of wilful blindness.
3. Self-discovery begins with honesty.
