Desmond’s Travel Notes
Day 46 - August 8th, 2019

Trains.

Today we left split to head to zagreb and then eventually switzerland. We left our bnb and our uber drove very slow, so slow that we only had a few minutes to actually catch the train we needed. We made it on, and to zagreb, knowing we had a long wait ahead of us before switzerland, we also had to book the tickets! When we went to the ticket office we were told that there were no more seats available, but we could get to Munich. After a little bit of researching we decided, let’s go. So we bought the tickets, and tried to find something to do for 6 hours while we wait for the night train!

We ended up in a cool little Cafe bar, called bar 45. We honestly spent 3 hours there. The coolest part was the server told a gentleman his coffee was like magic, and he replied, funny I’m actually a professional magician. So we got to see a little bit of a magic show which was awesome. After 2 long beers, it was finally time and we made our way back to the station.

Day 5 - June 28th, 2019

“Next we went to glasgow university to check it out, because that place looks like hogwarts!

We then left there, tried to get a bus... walked in a huuuuuge loop for no reason. I thought marina was going to kill me, but we made our way to the botanical gardens, which was marinas favourite part of the day. It was nice to be there while the rose garden was blooming, and the green houses were outstanding.”

Day 40- August 2nd, 2019

“After a slow start to our day we finally got moving. We grabbed some pizza, and then visited the highest point in santorini. The view was amazing, allowing you to see every corner of the island. We explored for a little while on our atv, and then decided to head back to the bnb for a quick freshen up, and made our way out to the lighthouse to watch the sunset. Apparently we weren’t the only ones, but we managed to find our own little spot, and had a truly peaceful, relaxing evening watching the sun dip into the ocean for the night.


We made our way back toward our bnb first stopping to grab some gyro’s which were 30cm long and super cheap. I mean they were huge! We brought them back home, watched friends on marina’s phone and chowed down while we waited for the atv company to arrive so we could square up, and sleep sound, as we had a flight to catch the next morning.”

Day 9 - July 2nd, 2019
Paris!
Our first day in paris we decided to skip the metro and take the hour walk from the station to the eiffel tower. Along the way we found a great little bakery for some croissants, and macarons. We passed by many beautiful streets, saw a giant theatre, and a few monuments before coming to a carnival in a park which was right by the river. We spent some time there to cool off, and then pressed on to see the tower. When we got there, we spent about an hour, posing and jumping around in front of it to get the perfect picture, and then we made our way up the street, passed the beautiful fountains, and headed to the Arc de Triomphe where we got some really awesome pictures of the entire city, including the Eiffel tower.“

“We swam around for a while, enjoying the sea for what will probably be the last time, then laid out our towels trying to get as tanned as possible. Which didn’t feel like it did much despite not using sunscreen today....”

Even though we are far from home this Christmas, our hearts are filled with gratitude for the incredible memories, friendships, and lessons of the past year.
