I want to give a huge congratulations to on their brand new single, "When You Get Home"! 🎊 This song was incredibly fun to work on with them; from screeching coke bottles against strings to make em sing, tracking some powerful drums with , to the indelible talent of the artist himself. I saw this song performed acoustic many times beforehand at ; it's one of those songs that has such strong imagery, you can feel yourself in the rooms that the story takes place. So excited to have had the chance to bring it to life and work with my friend! ❤️ Out on all streaming RIGHT NOW!!!

Tracking drums for . 😎 Getting a good drummer in the studio makes tracking incredibly easy, and kills it every time. Production is a collaboration, and having someone around who speaks your musical language, while not necessarily essential to getting a "good" take, makes the whole process that much more enjoyable!

Couple updates on the desk: it was NOT great wood as I believed! Per my earlier disclaimer, I do indeed not know anything about wood. :) The panel I used was in fact composite... while it acts like wood and can be used structurally, the wood grain print on the top was pretty disappointing. SO, I went ahead and glued plywood to the top and suddenly it looked much better! After gluing, getting all the cracks filled with wood filler, and lots of sanding, I went ahead and added this beautiful stain! Focusing on the top portion for the moment, looking forward to recording on this!

Let me just preface this post by saying I am NOT a carpenter, so if this looks wonky, that's why. For the better part of a year I have been thinking about building a desk... I kind of just thought, the room comes first, and the desk will come in time. Well, the time came and went, and all the while I kept eyeing this beautiful old bed frame I had... specifically that looongg wood panel in the middle! A piece of wood like that can easily cost you $100-$200. I pondered, I looked at lumber, I lamented the reality but came to realize I had something pretty great on my hands! So, finally, I began construction around the beginning of this month. After a week vacation, all I could think about was finishing this project. And WOW, was this difficult... but it's HERE! I took the liberty of building an adjustable wooden slide out for my MIDI keyboard, and finished off on top with a 19" x2 wooden rack, which will also support my imac! Every time I got frustrated and said, "I'm an audio guy, what am I even doing?", I remembered it's my love for music which drives me to do these crazy projects in the first place! Before and after pics below. 😀

ARTISTS! We are a brand new DIY music studio based out of the Burlington area of Vermont, and we are currently looking for new clients. As we are getting up and running, we are happy to say we have the following services ready for booking:

The first of many!

A benefit of working in insulation for 4 years is a better understanding of sound absorption - which materials work best and how it'll affect a space. While the majority of my work in the new space is regular carpentry, you obviously have to consider how the sound acts in a room... I.e. points of reflection, material density, sound wavelengths. For years I had seen the videos on YouTube, swearing by roxul and it's sound deadening properties... and yet, pink fiberglass is nearly half the cost. And, you could debate it works just as good, if not better; everyone who has seen the new room in person immediately notices the differences in sound deadening! Knowing this, and having worked with the material on a near daily basis, it was a no brainer. So, all of my sound panels will be made with fiberglass, I don't have to spend as much and best of all: I get some seriously GREAT recording opportunities! Also... felt on the front, polyester on the back make this thing look damn good, while still allowing it to breathe...

Hi facebook! Tristan Sayre Gilliss here, figured it was about time to show the fb community what's been going on the last few months! I have wanted to start a recording studio for literally years, so when I got both a job opportunity and a little boost this past January, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I have struggled with confidence in the past, sold myself short on so many occasions going against my own nature as a DIY-er, that I knew this time I had to make something big. So, for the past few months I've been building; sawing, hammering, screwing in, screwing up... and it made me realize I am totally ready to put myself out there. It doesn't hurt my ego to consider myself amateur, but I know this is the one of the few things I've always had a knack for and it is what I want to do, so it's time to start doing it. I'll admit that while it's most definitely getting there, the new space isn't quite ready, but with the extra space we do have I'm happy to say Sky Audio is open for booking!
