NORTH FLY MP JAMES DONALD CALLS FOR BIOMETRIC VOTING SYSTEM BVS
People can vote their leaders in ordered manner if Biometric Voting System (BVS) is used in the country.
North Fly MP James Donald said this year's election was unfair to all his people as many eligible voters in the district have missed out to vote.
He raised this concern during the voting at Ward five of Kiunga Urban LLG last month.
He said the country (PNG) cannot continue to repeat the same mistakes experienced in previous elections such as bribery, common roll issues, election related deaths, hijacking of ballot boxes, double voting and others.
"We have many good leaders hence they should work together and think critically about how to improve voting system in the country." he said.
Mr Donald said common roll issues, killings among others has also painted a bad image for our country therefore BVS should have been done for peaceful election.
"We're in the 21st century and we must move on with the new technology and system"
According to electoral commission in Kiunga, total voter population for Western Province in this election was 108,735 voters.
It clarified that for South Fly District was 28,538 voters, Delta Fly District was 27,240 voters, Middle Fly District was 14,605 voters, and North Fly District was 38,352 voters.
However, most eligible voter population in North Fly District missed out to vote as less than 15,000 people voted this election.
Donald said North Fly District will set up its Biometric Data System commencing this year 2022 after this election.
"The Fly River Provincial Government is aware of it so we'll work closely to ensure all people must vote in 2027. Once the system is set up from 2022 to 2027, we'll use BVS in 2027." said Donald.
