8 years ago. Before marriage, before babies, before a global pandemic. I’ve been thinking of this version of myself lately- that 29 year old woman who LOVED kids yoga and wanted to spread it around the world. I’ve been thinking of how much energy she had! And how little she thought of herself. I’ve been thinking of what value she brought, and how little she was valued in her work. I’m feeling a rumbly in my tumbly for this work again- the kind where we show kids the power is all inside them and has been all along…and I really hope to be back here with you all again here soon ❤️

For the first time in quite a while, I taught in a first grade classroom. I led an art project for my daughter’s class. I was anxious before, feeling rusty and like maybe I would flounder and not know what to do when standing in front of a groups of kids. Yet it was like riding a bike! I stood there and talked about Andy Warhol and how sometimes when we have new and different ideas people may laugh at us, but it’s just because they don’t understand us yet. We talked about how his print of a Coca Cola bottle worth 10 cents sold for $57 million dollars. We talked about thinking in new ways. The kids were open, enthusiastic and sweet. I remembered how this was my life’s work for so long- guiding children to find their own voice and the confidence within. I felt alive. In a way I haven’t in a while. It felt so good♥️

Dearest Kids Yoga Community, I thought I’d be back in the Fall with more episodes. I was wrong! Life is unpredictable and right now the stars are not aligned for me to continue creating new content for this podcast. I do hope people are still listening and learning from the episodes I’ve already created. And I hope one day I’ll be back at it. For now though, here I am on the floor with my kiddos and doing my best. Love you all♥️

I just want to say HI and I’m still here! I miss you! I love being transparent with you all so here’s an update. Right now I’m in the absolute depths of motherhood and have no capacity to continue recording episodes. I’m hopeful I can start doing more come Fall and I think about this community all the time! ☀️In the meantime, I’m enjoying the summer days with my husband and kiddos, trying to sleep, feed myself and take showers! Small goals for now. ☺️Sending all my love and hope your kids yoga and mindfulness work is blossoming and growing. 🌻Can’t wait to connect again when the time is right. Love you all!♥️

Hoping to be back soon recording episodes. In the meantime here are some baby laughs!

Happy Podcast Thursday!

Couldn't think of a better episode to leave you with before my break. ♥️This week, I am joined by the wonderful Lani Rosen-Gallagher

Recognizing that children need balance and focus in their lives, Lani first incorporated yoga into her daily schedule while teaching first grade in Coney Island, Brooklyn, back in the late '90s. Wanting to deepen her own yoga practice, she received her 200-hour certification from the Nosara Yoga Institute in Nosara, Costa Rica. Then, building on her extensive experience with young children, she went on to be certified by Next Generation Yoga in NYC and in Kenya, the Radiant Child Yoga Program, Street Yoga, Circus Yoga, Baby Om, Mindful Schools Teacher Trainings, and United We Om, which focuses on training for under-resourced and trauma-impacted communities.

In 2003, Lani headed cross-country to San Francisco, and a year later founded and created Full of Joy Yoga. Over the next four years, she taught yoga to children in preschools, yoga studios, homes, homeless shelters, and after-school programs all over the Bay Area. In 2007, she relocated to Connecticut, bringing her expertise to the East Coast. She discovered after having her own child, Zephyr (who is now 10), that family yoga was one of her favorite classes to teach.

Training others to teach yoga to kids is one of Lani's passions, as she realizes she can reach many more children by sharing her skills and talents with other instructors.

Most recently, Lani published a book called Yoga Games for Kids and will soon have videos to accompany the book’s games on her YouTube channel.

Lani is always striving to improve the lives and futures of children, and to help them laugh, love, and grow.

In this episode, Lani shares powerful insights from her over 20 years in the kids yoga industry. She shares what's kept her in this work over the years, her current passions, and some of her favorite stories. A wonderful and rich conversation, Lani has so much knowledge that we can all benefit and learn from- Listen in NOW!

Hello friends!

I’d like to be honest with you today.

I’ve been trying so hard to keep this podcast going; to keep the momentum and release weekly episodes. I persisted because you mean so much to me. This community and spreading kids yoga and mindfulness around the globe is truly a dream come true.

However, it’s become clear to me that in order to be kind to myself in this season of my life, I need to take a break.

Adjusting to life with three kids has been extremely intense. And while at the beginning I felt like I could “power through” and keep the momentum of this podcast going, I’ve realized my heart has been screaming out to take a breather.

Two things can be true at once: I love my children with my whole heart and soul AND I often feel like I’m drowning in the daily tasks of being a stay at home mom. Some days it’s hard for me to even find time to brush my teeth, let alone record, edit and promote new episodes of this podcast.

I want to practice what I preach about self kindness, being authentic and being in the moment, and honor what my heart is telling me. I hope I can take a break and care for myself and my family, and I hope you’ll all still be here when I come back.

I know this all may sound dramatic but seriously guys…this work means more to me than you’ll ever know! It’s not easy for me to admit I can’t keep going right now.

I promise you- I’ll be back when I’m no longer constantly treading water, nearly drowning everyday. I’ll be back once I’m starting to float a bit again!

Im sure I’ll still be on here posting here and supporting your amazing work. But today I release the pressure to power through. It’s definitely time for a true break.

Love you all!

What are your thoughts on the self care narrative for mothers? Is it helpful or harmful? Or a little bit of both? I find as a mom of three young kids self care is essential but not always possible. Sometimes not being able to care for myself feels like yet another failure in the unrealistic standards mothers are held to in our society. Would love to hear what you think!

It’s a four second clip, but it says so much. 😍That’s me as a baby, my grandfather who I called Nonno, holding me in his arms. At any family gathering you could find Nonno hanging with and entertaining the kids. If connection with children is genetic, Nonno definitely passed that onto me. Hence the work I do here! Hope he’s proud in heaven! Love you Nonno!♥️
