Jur River County Local Chief Allegedly Tortured At SPLA-IO Base.

In a press statement released today, the U.S. Ambassador to South Sudan says that the U.S. government has long championed empowerment, education, and equity for women and girls in south Sudan.
" The future success of south Sudan depends upon the treatment, status, and rights of women and girls. There must be respect for women's and girls' rights and an end to sexual and gender-based violence and other violations of their rights", said U.S Ambassador to South Sudan Micheal J.Adler.

Wildlife Official Accuses Accuses Uganda Army Of Poaching In Nimule Park.

Sunday, 5th of March 2023.

The Director General at the ministry of Wildlife conservation and tourism has accused elements from the Uganda People's Defence forces of repeated poaching of wild animals in South Sudan's Nimule Game Reserve.

Lt. General Khamis Adiang Diing said the latest incident was fatal shooting of an elephant with a PKM-machine gun near the Uganda border on 28th February 2023.

General Adiang said he suspect UPDF soldiers deployed in the military garrison.

"These violations are always committed by the Ugandan side, which penetrates the territory of South Sudan and kills animals, especially elephants," he said.

"In this latest incident that happened last week, when we examined the carcass of the elephant, we found that it had been shot with PKM."

"This operations was carried out by the Ugandan forces that were deployed at a place called Panchalla near the border between the two countries."

The wildlife official said the elephants at the Nimule park are poached by the foreign troops for their tusks.

"We have reported the case to the commissioner of the Moyo district in Uganda side to coordinate to end the violation of Ugandan forces in South Sudan land."

Aweil Old Stars Football Team Visit Terekaka County This Morning.

Saturday, 4th of March 2023.

A group of the Aweil Old Stars football team has Saturday morning departed Juba to Terekaka county of Central Equatoria state for a get-together outing.

While in Terekaka county, the group spent their leisure time at the bank of the river Nile with fish as their favorite food for lunch.

"It's heating!!! A total of 80+ Tilapia fish has lost the battle to Aweil Old Stars, according to Molana Garang Geng and Dau Kur Bol aka Dau small's posts seen by AWEIL MONITOR".

Terekaka county of Central Equatoria state has become an epicenter for many people, especially the youths who are residing in Juba to spend their weekend given the country is in the proximity of the river Nile.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued Republican decrees sacking two ministers of Defense and veterans affairs and that of interior. No reason was given for their relieved.

In separate decrees, president Kiir switched the ministry of Defense to the SPLM, and Ministry of interior to the SPLM-IO in the Republican decrees read out on the state owned television, SSBC this evening.

20-year-Woman Die By Su***de In Torit Town.

Thursday, 2nd of March 2023.

A 20-year-woman identified as Christine Ihideng was found hanging in her room in the Hai Battery residential area of Torit Town of South Sudan's Eastern Equatoria state.

Mustafa Albino Zacharia, the mayor of Torit municipal council said, the Woman committed the act at 5:00 am on Wednesday and the police were investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

" A girl hanged herself in Hai battery, and she was aged between 19-20 years old. The reason for her committing su***de is not known up to now because she hanged herself without telling anybody," he said. "We don't know why she hanged herself, it was the Police who took her dead body and they didn't tell us the reports."

James Monday Enocka, Eastern Equatoria state police commissioner confirmed the incident and attributes the case to harsh economic times.

"Even last week there were three cases of su***des. The rate of su***de in Eastern Equatoria state is alarming. This is the first time seeing the rate of su***de very high like that because of trauma, poverty that's why I am appealing to other people to do the study," he said.

Mundiri East County Authorities Crackdown On Tatoos

Sunday, 26th of February 2013.

The local authorities in Mundiri East county of Western Equatoria state earlier last week started cracking down on a group of youth who have been tattooing themselves using a metal locally known as 'kansu' which is heated on fire before being applied to the skin.

On Friday, the county commissioner, Margaret Fazio said the practices was introduced by a group of young boys and girls believed to have come from the capital Juba and who she says are spoiling the local youth.

The commissioner however dismissed reports that 10 boys and girls were arrested for indecent dressing and donning dreadlocks. This follow the reports in the media that 10 teenagers were arrested by police on her directive for being idle and disorderly, indecent dressing, and having dreadlocks.

"In my county, no people have been arrested for indecent dressing," she explained. "The issue is that there was an rascal who went on mobilising children under the age of 16 to tattoo themselves".

Commissioner Fazio clarified that those who were arrested are the boys and girls who tattooed themselves but said they were later released after being cautioned to desist from the practice.

She however said through the efforts of her administration, the church in the county was enabled to talked to the children and advised them to shun negative practices.

South Supreme Airline To Pay Close To $1.4M To Pirei Victims.

Friday, 24th of February 2023.

A Malakia court in Juba has ordered South Supreme Airline to pay over 1.3 Million US dollars (USD 1,360,000) or it equivalent in South Sudanese pound to the families of the eight victims who perished in a plane crushed in Pieri two years ago.

After a long wait for justice, presiding Judge, James Lado this morning pronounced the final court verdict, directing the local carrier to pay $170,000 (SSP 22,144,200) to each victim of the 2021 Pieri plane crush.

Citizens Cautiously Welcome Removal Of NSS Powers To Arrest Without A Warrant.

Friday, 24th of February 2023.

Citizens across the country have lauded the decision by the president Salva Kiir Mayardit and first vice president Dr. Riek Machar to remove the powers of National Security Services (NSS) to arrest suspects without a warrant.

The Community Empowerment for Progress Organisation (CEPO) congratulate Kiir and Machar for what they described as a remarkable decision and an act of embracing democratic practices.

"This is a long awaited decision and CEPO is hoping that this spirit will be applied in the reforms of the other legislation like Non-governmental organisations act, 2015," a CEPO statement read.

CEPO's executive director, Edmund Yakani said, the president and his deputy agreeing to scrap the NSS' powers to arrest without a warrant was a demonstration of commitment to embracing democratic practices.

Adhel Kuel in Aweil said it was a good and timely decision and that other laws have to be reviewed to ensure that interests of South Sudanese are respected .

"This is a good step and I wish the presidency gets an opportunity to review all South Sudanese laws carefully because there are some provisions which are against the people and are for the interests of person in power," she said.

Another Aweil resident, Reech Mayar Deng, welcome the decision but said arrest suspects must be presented in court Immediately.

Meanwhile, David Marko Ajuheri in Torit says the NSS was violating the law by arbitrarily arresting citizens without arrest warrant. He said the NSS is supposed to collect intelligence which they should then hand over to the police for action.

On his part, an advocate, Beda Khasmiro Anthony, said the which gave the NSS powers to arrest without a warrant was enacted at the wrong time and likely to stifle freedom.

Governor Manytuil And Japanese Ambassador Discuss Humanitarian Situation In Unity State.

Thursday, 23rd of February 2023.

The governor of Unity state H.E. Dr. Joseph Manytuil Wejang and the Japanese ambassador to South Sudan H.E. Naohiro Tsutsumi on Thursday discussed humanitarian situations and bilateral ties between South Sudan and Japan.

H.E. Naohiro Tsutsumi, the Japanese ambassador was accompanied by WFP'S deputy country director Mrs. Adeyinka Badejo.

Ambassador Naohiro emphasized the bilateral tie between South Sudan and Japan and how the Japanese draws its support to South Sudan in the realization of human security.

On the other hand, H.E. Dr. Joseph Manytuil, the governor of Unity state expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the people and government of Japan for their unwavering support to the people of South Sudan and Unity state in particular.

H.E. Dr. Joseph Manytuil reiterated his government commitment to work on collective efforts with international organizations and partners to provide the necessary support to the IDPs.

Jonglei State Officials Worried Over Imminent Attacks On Fangak County.

Wednesday, 22nd February 2023.

Several officials in South Sudan's Jonglei state have warned of looming revenge attacks in parts of Fangak and Pigi counties by an armed group from neighboring Upper Nile state.

There have been ongoing mobilization and possible attacks in the areas of Fangak and Pigi by the Agwelek forces and the people of Chollo in revenge.

11 People Were Killed And 26 Wounded In Rumbek North County Clashes

Wednesday, 22nd of February 2023

The clashes that erupted in Rumbek North county of Lakes state left 11 people dead and 26 others wounded, according to the unanimous.

The clashes happened yesterday morning between the armed youths from Luanjang of Tonj East county, Warrap state, and those of Rumbek North county, Lakes state.

The incident took place in Malith Boma, Alor Payam, 7 km West of Maper town.

These armed clashes were reported to spread to some Payams, Bomas, and villages of Rumbek North county.

Fighting was reported to continue in Bier Boma of Madhol Payam, Makuei village of Alor Payam, Malwal village of Malueth Payam, Payak, and Agaar areas respectively.

The casualties are expected to be very high from both sides and the wounded people were reportedly admitted to Maper health facility for treatment.

Efforts by AWEIL MONITOR to reach the authorities of Lakes and Warrap states were futile.

5 Killed, 11 Wounded In Awerial County Clashes.

Monday, 20th of February 2023.

Authorities of Lakes state have confirmed that at least five people have been killed and eleven others sustained critical injuries in inter-communal clashes over a dispute cattle camps in Awerial county.

At least 45 people have been arrested in connection to the clashes between the Koc Acol and Koc Wol clans which erupted in the Makoi cattle camp on Wednesday. The clashes continue till Friday.

Lakes State caretaker information minister William Koji Kirjok told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the government is still combing the area for more suspects and will punish all found guilty.

"The organized forces in Lakes state have restored calm and stability in Awerial county and about 45 suspects linked to the clashes over the contested cattle camp have been arrested and more suspects are being searched by the government-organized forces," he said.

He adds, "In Awerial county, we shall continue to engage with the community leaders, and intellectuals to make sure that such an incident does not repeat itself anywhere in Lakes state".

On the other hand, Awerial county town clerk Abraham Deng Cuei said government forces managed to control the violence saying they have created a buffer zone along the contested cattle camp.

Deng said, those critically injured have been taken to Bor and Juba for further treatment.

According to him, more government forces will arrives in the county to maintain security.

North Korea Shot Down US Military Aircraft With 7 Missiles.

Monday, 20th of February 2023.

The 2023 US aircraft that flew into North Korean territory was shot down with 7 missiles by the Korean military.

Tensions between the US and North Korea have begun to take place, when the US military conducted exploration flights into North Korea airspace on the morning of February 15th 2023.

After the stealth plane equipped with anti-infrared camera technology flew into North Korea Airspace, after 5 minutes, North Korea issued a notice asking the US to withdraw the aircraft or carry out an attack. Work on a large scale.

Despite that warning, the US continues to hover over the border between North and South Korea, resulting in the plane blowing up because of 7 missiles fired by North Korea.

It's known that these missiles fly at a speed of 3000KM/s, which is one-third faster than the US aircraft.

Tensions are high when the US demands North Korea ceasefire but the US still does not withdraw its troops from the border area.

North Korea warned that if the US continued to violate its territory, it would use the first Nuclear missiles it produced, the main target location was New York.

Currently the airplane crushed in the East sea and it being rescued.

Northern Bahr El Ghazal state Youth Union To Stage A Peaceful Demonstration Next Week.

Sunday, 19th of February 2023.

The leadership of Northern Bhar El Ghazal State Youth Union is calling on youths, institutions, and peace-loving people to join them on Thursday, 23rd, February 2023 to protest against the perpetuated defilement and molestation of young girls by the Sudanese traders in Aweil town.

According to the letter seen by AWEIL MONITOR, the Sudanese Arab by the name, of Sheikh Yassir Ismail Abaker who is Imam of Madiria Mosque defiled and molested two minors, 11 and 14 years old respectively on the 11th and 16th of February 2023.

It's not the first time such cases to happen in Aweil town. Several cases have been committed by the Sudanese men who are based in Aweil as traders and no punitive action taken against the perpetrators.

In 2022, a young girl by name of Abuk Lual Lual was rapped, killed, and dumped into a pit latrine by another Sudanese trader which later angered the youth at Aweil town and take laws into their hands by beating up some Arab in the market.

The state government should come up with laws that can regulate and restrict any foreigners residing in Aweil town.

The president of the Sudanese Sovereign council, H.E. General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, arrived at Juba this morning from Khartoum, Sudan.

He was warmly received by President Salva Kiir Mayardit at Juba international airport.

The two leaders are expected to witness the signing of the implementation matrix of Juba peace agreement.
