Panama City

Founded on August 15, 1519, by Pedro Arias Dávila. The city received the title as such in 1521, granted by King Carlos I of Spain and was practically destroyed by the English privateer Henry Morgan on January 28, 1671.

The rise of this city was due to the passage of wealth and merchandise from South America to Spain and vice versa. Most of its inhabitants devoted themselves to commerce.

The historical complex, which covers 28.5 hectares 20 kilometers east of the current Panamanian capital, is formed by the Cathedral Tower, the King's Bridge, the ruins of its convents, hospitals, houses and cobblestone streets

Casco Viejo is the name given to the site where Panama City was moved in 1673. This city, drawn in a reticular way to the four cardinal points, was characterized by the axiality of its streets and posthumous, which earned it to be considered a classic model of Indian city.1 It is located on a small peninsula, surrounded by a mantle of rocky reefs, within the current corregimiento of San Felipe. In 1997, the Old Town of Panama is included in the list of Unesco World Heritage Sites.

The municipality of Mascota is located on the plateau of the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range, the municipality has 40 small villages, among which Mascota is the largest, it is a region of beautiful landscapes that contrast valleys, mountains, forests and rivers. People are kind, cheerful and proud of their history. When you enter Mascota, you immediately notice that it is a beautiful and picturesque town, as if you had traveled to the quiet and peaceful past and the air is colder. It is a town that invites you to rest and relax. It has cobblestone streets traditional style flanked by colonial-style houses. Take advantage of enjoying the local cuisine, order a coffee pot, eat some homemade cookies and some of the countless local sweets, as well as different rompopes (a bit like an eggnog) with vanilla flavors, nut and with fruits of the season. And how about a close encounter with a horse of Raicilla?

Especially prosperous cities were created around Mexico City in colonial times, which stood out among the others and that have come to this day with their cobbled streets, monumental buildings and houses with balconies, doors and windows of Spanish cut almost intact. Some of them were born from the manors in which the land was distributed and occupied the same location or sites very close to the conquered indigenous cities. It is the case of Oaxaca (1521), Puebla (1531), Villa Real, today San Cristóbal de las Casas, (1528), Querétaro (1532), Pátzcuaro (1534), Valladolid, today Morelia, (1541) and Mérida (1542) ).

Beautiful palaces and mansions, imposing castles and fortresses, great temples and religious buildings, in a harmonious set of historic houses of a colorful chromaticism. These are the characteristics of the beautiful city of Merida known as the White City.

It is said that when the first Spanish conquerors arrived in this Mayan city called «T'ho» (although it was also known as «Ichcaansihó»), they were so impressed and enchanted by their temples and shrines, that in the sunlight they were reminded of the lime buildings that were in the Merida of Spain and that is why they decided to baptize this new territory with the same name.

KEEPING UP WITH THE SMURFS!

What a month! Since we’ve been in quarantine for a while now; we’re getting used to working from home… And to be honest, we like it! Nevertheless, we can’t wait to meet again with all of our clients. We miss you a lot! The good news, is that we’re getting closer and closer to being able to travel again. How exciting!

As you may know, this section is called “Keeping Up with the Smurfs” because this section is for us to tell you about our adventures during the month. And because some people call us “The Smurfs” due to our turquoise uniforms. But this month we publicly announced that our new mascot will be the Blue Bee “I-Bee”. We love bees, they represent hard work and teamwork. Also, did you know that they are the most important animal in the world?

Since we love the fact that Smurfs work together as a community, and each Smurf has its own personality and qualities. We decided to adopt this concept, and make it of our own. So welcome to the hive! The main mascot of IVI DMC, is “I-Bee” but there are many different bees.. Prepare to meet all of them.

Lastly, we decided to sing from our homes the song “Imagine” by John Lennon. To have some fun and distract us from the bad news. You can check it out on our social media! We’re not the best singers, bear with us!

Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
This Colonial City was founded in 1496 by Bartholomew Columbus, brother of Christopher Columbus, as the capital of the first Spanish colony in the New World. It includes more than 300 historical sites as well as various monuments of cultural and historical character.

The original city site was located on the east bank of the Ozama River and was named Nueva Isabela in honour of Queen Isabella I of Spain. In 1502, the Governor Nicolas de Ovando transferred the institutions to the west bank and provided the city with a grid pattern from the Plaza Mayor. The city was the headquarters for the first institutions in the Americas such as the first university, cathedral, castle, monastery and fortress.

Riviera Nayarit Hotels:
Active and united against COVID-19
• Partner hotels have displayed solidarity and empathy when faced with the coronavirus health crisis.
The hotels of the Riviera Nayarit have been active and united against COVID-19, maintaining their commitment and social responsibility not only with their employees, but also with the community.Since the Federal Government announced the start of the health emergency in March of this year, the hotel guild has displayed ongoing solidarity and empathy, underscoring the already legendary hospitality of this tourist destination. With this objective, the guild has launched several initiatives to overcome this situation as soon as possible—some have offered provisions to hospitals and community kitchens, while others have provided perishable food items to the police and the authorities manning the health perimeters, without neglecting their responsibility and solidarity towards their employees. The President of the Banderas Bay Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB), Jesús Carmona Jiménez—also Operations Director of the Vallarta Gardens development—highlighted this effort, urging the destination’s hotel chains to join these initiatives and asking the community in general to follow the guidelines given by the Federal and State Governments.“Many people have stayed at home and are complying with the social distancing measures, which is why hoteliers—who understand all the implications—are supporting these people in different ways and by different means. In particular, they are in solidarity with their staff, making sure the effects of what’s happening today are causing the least impact possible.”

Floating Doctors Foundation
While Panama is known for its incredible beaches and rich culture, there are also many people who need medical attention that lack immediate access to any public hospital to which they can be transferred.

This Foundation supports people that require transportation through the islands, serving residents in the most deserted islands.
This is a non-governmental organization that only works with donations of medical time and donations from international organizations.

Corporate Social Responsibility Projects

Throughout the years, the opportunity to demonstrate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been popping up in the travel industry. In the past years, Incentive Travel, Meetings and Conventions, have adopted social projects and we at IVI DMC are committed to support & motivate those projects, with our clients whom decide to get involve on the give back idea.

Some projects we have facilitated include:

Bycicle building
Building new classrooms and bathrooms with running water at rural schools for kids in need conditions
Remodeling playgrounds
Assembling kits with food and hygiene goods
Assembling schoolbags with supplies and clothes for kids
Donation for various local Foundations, like a shelters for children, a home for kids with special needs, a home for the Edler…

One of the most remarkable projects came true thanks to the LONZA Water Team & Pool Dealer 5th Annual PEACH™ Project. Classrooms were built using a sustainable system, consisting on walls made of PET and sand. Their use life is 100 years – twice as much as bricks!

Change lives! Make a difference!

16/04/2020

Corporate social responsibility, one of the main business phrases of the 21st century, is difficult to define, since each company that claims to be socially responsible chooses a different way to demonstrate its commitment. The CSR is the way a company works well, not in terms of profits or the efficiency of its daily operations, but by committing to an activity or cause that contributes to the common good. Whether recycling, helping to rebuild houses destroyed in an earthquake, providing soccer uniforms to impoverished schools or cleaning beach litter, a socially responsible company is one that aims to improve something beyond its core function, in a way that is relevant for the whole society.
Therefore, in IVI DMC we are aware that we can contribute significantly to the image of the CSR for our clients and, therefore, we offer a variety of initiatives aimed at that objective, actions that are, so to speak, symbols of good corporate will and responsibility and solidarity.
Our company has focused on supporting the neediest nonprofit communities and entities in the country. We analyze together with our client, what is their philosophy, community support approach and budget and in this way, we rotate to support different entities throughout the country. On the other hand, we like to work shoulder to shoulder with the programs, whose participants want to support with the “dirty hands” service, where they offer us their valuable time, as well as hard work, painting schools, orphanages, planting trees, cleaning beaches. Also since in our countries we are an eco-friendly country we support national parks, as well as all animal sanctuaries and new projects that support the strengthening of important parts of the planet, such as bees.

Saving the reef:

Oceanus A.C. is a nonprofit organization that generates information and strategies for the conservation of natural resources and promotes citizen participation among institutions and communities, through its reef restoration program, with the aim of promoting and implementing tangible actions for the conservation of marine coastal ecosystems in Mexico.
They do this by collecting fragments of elkhorn coral at reef sites, placing them on male PVC connectors and finally coupling them into their female PVC connectors previously installed on special handmade bases on the reef.
In this experience, visitors have the opportunity to work together with the Certified Program Guides in the cleaning and maintenance of nurseries. Once the coral nursery structures have been installed and filled with fragments by the staff of Oceanus, A.C. these should remain in stabilization for some months. During this time they will require maintenance and cleaning to avoid overgrowth of algae and other organisms.

An example of CSR events that take place in the Mexican Caribbean are the Organic Harvesting Programs!

The sustainable food production program consists of supporting a Maya village to learn permaculture techniques and increase the yield of their community crops and family backyard gardens.
The aim of the program is to promote those families, and therefore communities can self-sustaining their feeding needs with skilled workers in the fields where they grow their food controlling pests, fertilizing the soil with organic homemade tonics and maximizing the use of water.
In this activity, teams will support the program by helping make and place the compost in the rows and installing a drip irrigation system in the first orchard at the Nuevo Durango community.

09/04/2020

The Banderas Bay Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB) is joining the global initiative with a message of hope and encouragement by lighting up its hotels with heart-shaped figures in solidarity with the local and global population that has to stay home because of the current emergency situation due to COVID-19.

In this manner, the AHMBB sends an unmistakable message: unity and strength in the face of the personal and economic effects that this pandemic has caused in the tourism sector.

The lighting up of several rooms to create a heart is an initiative that began with several international hotel chains—among them, Marriott—and later continued into Mexico, where it was also adopted by regional hotels.

Among the chains that joined in the initiative, both in the Riviera Nayarit and in Puerto Vallarta, are the RIU Hotels & Resorts, Villa Group (Villa La Estancia and Villa del Palmar Flamingos), and Fiesta Americana.

Stay at home with the Riviera Nayarit
Messages such as “Stay safe, stay healthy, stay with those who matter” can be read on Villa Group’s social media accounts as they encourage their guests to stay at home.

The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) has been making this call since the beginning of the emergency period in alignment with the AHMBB and the Nayarit State Secretary of Tourism.

Cabo Catoche was the first place for the arrival of the Spanish inside of the current State of Mexico. The first to step on it was the european expedition led by Francisco Hernandez de Córdoba, which disembarked at the beginning of 1517. This disembark was also the one that discovered the Yucatan Penninsula for the explorers from the old world. Today Cabo Catoche has become a very popular touristic place but mostly because of the close proximity with Cancun, one of the largest touristic resorts all over Mexico. In some of the nearest areas it is possible to find Fauna and Flora with lots of diversity and are protected by some organizations. Cabo Catoche, is divided in three zones with an estimated 25,034 total room accommodations between these three zones; Soto Lindo with 9,600 rooms and a professional 18 holes golf course and two marinas. Costa Mujeres with 6,900 rooms and one 9 holes Golf course. Paraiso Mujeres with about 2,000 rooms, commercial areas and beach clubs and finally Playa Mujeres with 6,500 room accommodation.

Congratulations Cancun for your 50th Anniversary !
Cancun is celebrating its 50th anniversary! considered one of the youngest Island in the Mexican Caribbean, this year the local authorities designed a beautiful mail stamp to celebrate this very important event, This stamp it shows the majestic blue turquoise water of the ocean of the beautiful Cancun. Also well known worldwide as the jewel of Mexico, currently with more than 700 thousand inhabitants, more that 40,000 rooms between the existent to be constructed and the authorized ones. With more than 24,000 people annual mobility.
A modest highway of compressed sand in the pre-history of Cancun, played a very important roll, which the existent was ignored by the Infratur technicians. At the beginning more well known as “The entrance door to Cancun is heaven”, nine of each visitors to Cancun arrived to this destination by airline. This provoque that our airport became one of the first ones in International connections and the second one on local level more prosperous and profitable of the state.
This figures were imagined, that entrance door was in the mind of the creators of the city, with an impeccable logic, a master plan argued that the main tourist market was too far, maybe hundreds or thousands of miles away, so this implicated the need of Cancun of air ways or it will never grow up or had the success they were waiting for. Experts on the airline business started to work on it but the best of all they get the resources which was tough to convinced the Finances Secretary to contribute the economy for the construction of an International Airport in the middle of the jungle, in April 1975 when Cancun had only 8,000 habitants. So that was the story of Cancun in a short version!

Designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, the Biomuseo is his first work in Latin America and in the tropics. The building was designed to tell the story of how the Isthmus of Panama emerged from the sea, joining two continents, separating a large ocean in two and changing the planet's biodiversity forever.

The 4000 square meter museum contains eight permanent exhibition galleries designed by Bruce Mau Design.

In addition to the main spaces, the museum includes a public atrium, a space for temporary exhibitions, a shop, a cafeteria and multiple outdoor exhibitions arranged in a botanical park.

The permanent exhibition is a combination of art and science, which will give visitors the feeling of being faced with an amazing phenomenon.
