High school students and elected officials are planning to sue Florida after its Department of Education declined to implement an Advanced Placement (AP) African American Studies course.
On Wednesday (January 25), civil rights attorney Ben Crump announced at a Tallahassee press conference that he will work with AP students in Florida to file a historic lawsuit against the state and Governor Ron DeSantis, WESH 2 News reports.

“Are we going to allow Gov. DeSantis or anybody exterminate Black history from the classrooms in Florida?” Crump asked at Wednesday’s news conference to which the crowd responded “no!”

“Black history is American history,” he added.

The move to take legal action against the state comes after the Florida Department of Education blocked the implementation of an AP African American Studies course in public high schools, citing that it “lacked educational value” in a letter to College Board.

DeSantis later defended the department’s decision, suggesting the course was designed for “political purposes.”

Amid the fallout, College Board announced Tuesday (January 24) that it would release the official framework for the AP course next week. Changes are expected to be made to the “pilot framework,” which was used to test the course in several schools across the nation, including the removal of curriculum on Critical Race Theory, College Board said.

But outrage still remains over the state’s initial decision to reject the course.

Zaytoven has sold his extensive music catalog of hits for Migos, Lil Wayne, Travis Scott and more to Ultra International Music Publishing as part of a new deal with the company.

The new deal arrives just after Zay launched his own record label alongside music executive Big Trill called ZTP. In his announcement about the imprint last month, the Atlanta native revealed they’re in the process of recruiting new talent.

According to a report from Variety on Tuesday (January 24), the deal consists of 560 songs written between 2005 and 2022, including Migos’ breakout hit “Versace,” Travis Scott’s “3500,” Lil Wayne’s “Problems,” 21 Savage’s “Famous” and more. The sale amount has not been disclosed.

Kodak Black has made his runway debut during Paris Fashion Week and unleashed a preview of his first-ever fashion collaboration with menswear designer Doni Nahmias.

The show happened on Sunday (January 22), with Kodak unveiling a 10-piece ensemble inspired by retro clothing, music and the rapper’s own personal lyrics. While he was walking through the show, the Florida native performed his song “Super Gremlin” while wearing a purple faux-fur coat painted with lyrics from his personal notebook.

Kodak also wore a purple suit with a rhinestone heart on the lapel with the words “love” and “war” sewn into the sleeves. The Sniper Gang boss helped co-create the menswear line and the runway presentation alongside Nahmias, who is also the rapper’s longtime friend.

The line is part of Nahmias’ fall/winter 2023 collection, which was dubbed “California Poetry” and inspired by “Nineties California hip-pop culture.”

Users have been sharing their conversations through social media, and one chat with Biggie showed the late legend praising 2Pac despite their rivalry.

“It’s been a few years since his passing and I miss him every day but he lives on through his music,” the AI Biggie said when asked if he still had love for 2Pac. “Pac was one of the hardest working guys n the rap game, he put out classics like ‘Changes’ and ‘Dear Mama’ that will never be forgotten. We had similar upbringings so I always felt a kinship with him and strived to do my best in honor of him. That’s real talk.”

When the user responded, “But he dissed you on it though,” Biggie had more words.

“You know what, that’s just part of the game,” he said. “never took things too personally in my career and neither did Pac, so although we had our differences at times it was all just business for me. However, it’s worth noting that What a Time to Be Alive arrived just a few months after the Billboard charts began counting streaming data towards album sales, and streaming was a significantly more popular method of music consumption in 2022 than it was in 2015.

Kanye West could be denied entry to Australia over his history of antisemitic remarks, according to a government minister.

It is understood the rapper - who now goes by the name Ye - was planning to visit the country to meet the family of his partner, Bianca Censori, who grew up in Melbourne.

Jason Clare, the education minister, condemned Ye's "awful" antisemitic comments involving Hi**er and the Holocaust, saying others who had made similar statements had been denied visas.

"People like that who've applied for visas to get into Australia in the past have been rejected," Clare said in an interview on Channel Nine. "I expect that if he does apply he would have to go through the same process and answer the same questions that they did."
