The cast and crew of East River Story is saddened and very upset by this recent event. Rest in peace Jordan Neely.

This is Jordan Neely. He was a subway performer in NYC, who was unhoused and suffered with mental illness. He went on a rant crying out about being tired, thirsty, & hungry on the F Train yesterday. This upset another passenger who then proceeded to put him in a chokehold for what some have reported FIFTEEN MINUTES! Neely could not be revived and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The murderer was brought in for questioning and later released.

My heart grieves for Neely and so many others…

East River Story Ocktober Film Festival

Story time by Tomike Ogugua

You never know how your work will affect people. After the screenings last night I was approached by a gentleman that told me while he was watching the film, he had already made up preconceived and stereotypical notions about Henry. (It’s important to note Henry does not speak a single word for the first 10 minutes of the film).

He then proceeded to share with me that after my character finally spoke, the character’s humanity shined through and then this man said to me, “I feel so ashamed of myself for putting him (Henry) into this box, after he spoke, I knew that I was wrong about him.”

Y’all!!!!!

I was floored. I managed to keep it together and thank him for giving me his feedback.

That is the power of ART. We get to change hearts and minds out here; and get people really thinking about the society we live in, and how to ultimately attempt to make it better. -Tomike

Ocktober Film Festival 2022 Short Film Nominee

East River Story is a short film about a disgraced Wall Street banker (Desmond) who has arrived at the East River Walk with the intention of killing himself, rather than turn himself in the next morning to go to prison, as arranged by his criminal defense attorney. When he strikes up a conversation with a homeless man (Henry), though, as a way to procrastinate, they spend the night reflecting upon their lives and how the two of them came to end up in the same place. With sunrise only hours away, the two men are forced to face certain truths about themselves that will change their lives forever.

Last night the cast and crew of East River Story celebrated at the opening gala for the 2022 Newark International Film Festival. It was hosted by the amazing Richard Lawson and his awesome wife Tina Knowles-Lawson. Thank you both for your time and grace. Also we were treated to a sneak peek of the new feature film Black Terror
Directed by Richard Lawson - based on the play written by Richard Wesley.

So blessed to see all my fellow actors loving the fruits of all that hard work and dedicated. Congratulations

Today in the 4pm block we screen our short East River Story. Hope to see you there at CityPlex Newark .

Our new short film East River Story has a running time of 29 min. For most festivals we won't qualify because of that and that's unfortunate for their audience. But I'm happy to announce we officially have our first film festival screening. Thank you Newark International Film Festival 2022. Thank you for the opportunity to share our film with your audience.
