Self love starts with you first,
And then you can give to others freely without feeling drained exhausted or resentful.

If you're constantly giving, giving, giving and not giving to yourself, you'll be left bitter, tired and drained.

Start by putting yourself. Small things like saying no to an event or taking the time out to journal and just take a break from everything is a form of self care.

At the end of the day if you're leaving your cup running empty and expecting others to pat you on the back for giving then you'll be so disappointed.

I'm sending you guys so much love and I hope you're getting through the day so far while staying present and grateful for your current reality. Stay patient and your time will come and keep your energy protected from the things that will bring you down.

The more it puts you back from achieving your own greatness.
You see, you could become a genius at something, but only if you focus on you,
You could spend each day getting better and better.
You could spend each day exploring yourself and what you like,
So if this is you right now,
STOP it!
You are doing great and remember everyone else that have achieved a lot have also worked their asses off trying to get to where they are, and they're still on their journey.

Focus on how far you have come.
It's probably the most important thing during your most difficult time to remember how far you have come.
A wonderful woman once told me "you have survived worse, and it's true. I have. And so have you."
This doesn't mean to invalidate our experiences, but to remember that, God has got you, don't worry about it.
Keep the faith, take care of your body and mind by eating healthier and feeding your thoughts with good words.
And if you feel like your life feels like s**t right now, it's okay. Keep going.

Remember to fill your own cup first by taking out time to journal, reflecting at the creation of Allah or maybe even having 30 minutes away from the kids to give you time to realign yourself and feel like a normal human being.

Being a mother is definitely hard, especially when you are working on yourself, maybe running a business and trying to get fit and healthy.

But in the midst of all the work, don't forget yourself. Take some time out, rest, recover and then take each step at a time.

Seeking perfection is like self destruction because you will never see your imperfect self as "acceptable".
You will keep a mask on for everyone because you will never feel like you're good enough to just be yourself.
I have struggled with this for so many years that It has become a part of me. To never show how vulnerable I am, to not speak my truth and be who i really am, but I'm slowly coming out of that and I now see how amazing I am just because I was created by Allah.

Don't seek to be perfect, Instead be real, be yourself.

This is a difficult place to get to because it requires you letting go of people pleasing, trying to look and be perfect or anything else so that you can look good on the outside.
When you do things to keep and image up It's literally like suffering.

"Don't quit on yourself!"

This is something I had to (and still have to) tell myself time and time again.

When you embark on something and you decide to change your life in some way, you will encounter obstacles.

Those obstacles are a test for you to see whether you will continue on to
"the other side" or not.

Whatever it is that's holding you back, release it, address it and keep going even if you have to crawl to get to where you need to.

As a mother, I know that it can be difficult to Remember yourself and be a mum. You can get lost easily and it's so hard to mantain you dreams and your self care.

But please, keep trying, keep getting up. If you fail, get back up again in SHA Allah. You got this!!!!

The thing that is holding you back from taking charge of your health is:

1. Your belief- your belief that you can't do it. You have tried a million times and failed, so what makes it different now?

2. Your excuses- " I don't have enough time, I don't have enough money, its difficult being a mother and i don't get the time for myself to make those changes etc."

All of these things are valid. It is hard. You are stressed out, maybe you don't have enough money.

But Allah works in ways that you can never comprehend. What if you opened your mind to the possibility if it finally happening?

You looking at yourself and feeling good again, you feeling mentally clearer and having come on the other side of your depression and anxiety.

I remember standing there, trying on clothes in the changing room and.... they didn't fit.

they didn't have any sizes bigger than that. I felt sad and disgusted that i let myself get this big. Not only that, i would walk up the stairs and feel like i would faint.

For me, it wasn't about losing weight so that i could look amazing, it was for a bigger purpose.

I wanted to learn how to eat better. I wanted to walk up the stairs without feeling like i'm going to die. Health is so important for us, and when you have children it's an even more integral part.

sisters, there is no quick fix that will keep you fit and healthy in the long term.

There are no diet pills, juices or cleanses that will change your diet and lifestyle. It will all just pile back on again.

Overeating could be a habitual or an emotional thing-

for example you could be eating when you feel bored or just pick on pieces of food throughout the day and it piles on to your daily calories!

If you don't make the decision to change your life now, where will you be next year? Probably feeling the same about life,and maybe even more stressed and frustrated that you didn't do anything about it.

Change is hard 100% but it gets worse the longer you leave it. Take charge to be happy about yourself today. Accept your situation and do something to change it.

What is it about Oreos that make you eat a row instead of one 🍪?
Why do people CRAVE sugar?

Sugar, like Co***ne blocks dopamine (indictaed in RED) which is responsible for behaviours related to our cognition, pleasure and motivation. By blocking dopamine our body will require MORE sugar to get the same affect, leading to over consumption and addiction.

This is why you use to be able to be satisfied with only one piece of candy and now you need to eat ½ the bag to feel like you are satisfied.

The body and the brain are “ride or die”. They work together... good, bad or indifferent 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Did you know that exercise can help ease symptoms of anxiety and depression?
STORY- when I first started my fitness journey last year I was very depressed and the LAST THING I wanted to do was workout.
But you know what? I took that jump. After 3 kids and having to start all over again as a Single mother, I hated the way that I looked and felt, and eating terrible didn't help the situation either....
So why am I sharing my story with you?

To not only give you scientific proof of the benefits of exercise ( which I will be sharing below so keep reading )- but I had to share my personal story with you so that I can show you that I'm a living proof of someone who actually did this and achieved results mentally as well as physically.

So, how does exercise improve your low mood?

1. When you exercise you release "feel good chemicals in your body called endorphins. It's probably the best way to get you to feel like yourself again.
2. When you exercise (and actually stick to it) you will feel a sense of being on control of your life and can increase your self confidence.

3. Because of the Endorphins being realised, you are more likely than ever to steer your thoughts away from the negative cycle of rumination that depression brings.

The journey to feeling great about yourself (especially in this time) can be extremely challenging. Results physically mentally and emotionally can be achieved through healthy eating and exercise, and i'm a proof of that alhamdulillah.

There's one thing though: it sounds simple but it isn't easy. It isn't easy being in the journey for the long run. It isn't easy to say "no" to that slice of cake when you know that you really don't want to eat that.

Gratitude has been key for me along my journey to wellness and health.

It has helped me:

● Ground myself in the present moment. Grounding myself has helped me perform better in my workouts and has overall improved my physical and mental health.

●Maintain a clear vision of my life and see things as how they are instead of over thinking all the time.

● Find a place in my mind to come back to whenever life gets me down.

There are so many more scientific, proven reasons for why gratitude works wonders for your life.

I remember 2 years ago when I would make excuses about why I couldn't exercise and eat well.

I would say things like " I don't have the time, I run after the kids all day" or " my body will never be the same again after having 3 children",

And while all the excuses we make might potentially be true, you are blocking out the possibility of even seeing results that you have never seen before.

There's a saying that goes " If you think you can, or if you think you can't, you're right".

So when I finally decided to change my unhealthy eating habits and replacing it with nourishing foods. When I decided to exercise and practice mindfulness and healing techniques my life changed.

Not only did I become a more calmer, joyful parent, I am now attracting so much blessings into my life.

Sometimes you just have to let the house be messy and focus on your self-care.

Working on your mindset and becoming the best version of yourself is not perfect or linear.

Growth can look like messy hair, body aches from your workout the day before and kids running around screaming.

Take your time on your journey to wellness.

Put yourself first always, because as the saying goes: "put your oxygen mask on first and then put it on for the other person." You can't fully show up for others if your not doing it for yourself.

The saying "health is wealth" is no lie. When you think about wanting to be more effective at work or in business, you must take care of yourself first and that means:

- Exercising- taking care of your body mentally and physically by releasing endorphins (the feel good chemical in your body)

- Eat well consistently- Eating healthy foods that nourish your body and make you feel more energised to run after the kids and fulfil your other duties.

- Give yourself some "me" time: Self care is key, and if you're not giving yourself at least 1 hour a day to do whatever the hell you want, then girl....you better start now!

As a single mother of 3, I have managed to lose 15 kgs , restore my confidence, get fitter and healthier in just 7 months. How did i do it?

It's so easy to fall into the trap of "wanting" to do something and "wishing" to do something but never actually doing it.

But there is a secret to building your ideal life and making healthier decisions and that is- mindset.

It's easier said than done, and i have been there but when i finally decide to do that, it changed my life. I began following through with my goals and I succeeded in the end. Mummy happy. Kids happy. Lol.

I have opened this page so that as muslim women, we have a safe place to talk about how we can improve ourselves and build our confidence. How we can put ourselves first. Put your own oxygen mask first and then put it on for your loved ones like your husband and your family.

Story: I remember when I first began my fitness and self love journey. It was hard....
I had no sense of direction, but I know that I needed to start. So what did I do? I plastered motivational quotes like this all over my walls and I looked crazy as hell to my family members. I took that leap of faith even though I couldn't see the whole staircase. It was uncertain but I pushed through it.
Lesson in this: Just start, even if you don't know what will come next. Take charge of what you can control in your life and leave the rest, instead of over thinking the process. You got this.

Asalamu aleikum! Are you an ambitious muslim mother who sometimes feels “stuck” when it comes to her health and fitness?

Maybe you look at your body and think: “where did it all go wrong...” You’re feeling stuck because keeping up with the house chores and work, business, marriage leads to you putting yourself last and not following through on that workout program that you have been telling yourself to do.

My name is Maryan Sheikh Hussein and i am a mindset Life coach. I am passionate about fitness because i have found this to be the key to me having less stress and depression in my life. As a single mother of 3 beautiful daughters, i believe that if i can do it- so can you!
