Game Summary for 2/20/2023
~~Spoilers Included~~
Reynald tended to the fallen, uttering a desperate plea to Bahamut to save those who had been slain by the black dragon. A dozen or more had been slain outright or mortally wounded. The Platinum Dragon did not answer Reynald’s prayer, but his wishes were made manifest by Reynald’s own powers. Many of those who had fallen were healed. However, those who had been impacted directly by the dragon’s acid were lost.
As Bez’Lok worked quickly to de-scale the dragon, another gnome instructed that they should first take off the limbs and head, so that the co**se would not reanimate. Yes, things were that grim in Omnis. The dead roamed the streets, Jokini explained, their spirits longed to reclaim their mortal bodies.
Jokini recognizes Bez’Lok from their youth, and explains that their home fell to ruin shortly after he was banished. A wizard from the Council of Order who called herself a duchess had brainwashed the town, stealing away its finest tinkerers to fix an ancient machine.
As the two gnomes worked happily at dismembering the slain dragon, a voice called from the front of the temple.
The voice belonged to a third gnome, it was Reynald and Mordekai who recognized him. Nestix Sinser was the gnome who had detained Brahms as he helped the heroes in escaping the dungeon below Omnis, weeks earlier.
The gnome’s jaw dropped at the sight of the heroes and the slain dragon, and he promptly fled. Pi’Kraul’s swiftness brought him face-to-face with the gnome, and Mordekai cast Black Tentacles that held Nestix in place. But, suddenly Nestix was mist, wisping quickly upward and away. Pi’Kraul landed a final blow as the wizard disappeared into the darkness.
Perth, the squire who was left in charge of defenses of the Temple of the Light, asked Reynald to rescue Selma, Light Sentinel, who had gone to rescue Vigilant Brigade Chief Lenry from the firehouse a few blocks away. They all agree to the task.
Jokini gives Bez’Lok an amulet to protect him from the undead, and tells him that her cousin is with Chief Lenry at the firehouse, asking for Bez’Lok’s to look for him.
The group make their plan of attack, perhaps one hero will fly quickly, pulling a bag of holding on a rope, the contents of which are the other heroes. This dangerous plan is abandoned and Reynald and Mordekai fly forth into the night as Bez’Lok and Pi’Kraul make their way down the haunted street.
Arrows assail Reynald and Mordekai, there are archers on the apartment rooftops who have seen them coming. As Mordekai sets the roofs ablaze and Reynald lands to fight hand-to-hand, Pi’Kraul and Bez’Lok are ambushed in the street. The screes and cries of the undead reach the intersection Pi’Kraul is crossing and surround him, even as he flies into the air from benefit of the fly spell cast earlier. As he dispatches the undead, Bez’Lok sees the firehouse.
Bez’Lok calls for the heroes to make haste to the firehouse, but they do not heed his call.
Pi’Kraul is incensed by the evil before him, flying forth to battle one tortured soul after another.
A secret study, known only by Mordekai and a few others, is below the burning apartments. So, Mordekai and Reynald act quickly to enter the library, pulling whatever valuable books they can from the shelves into their bag of holding.
Bez’Lok calls to Pi’Kraul but there is no answer. The gnome rushes back to find Pi’Kraul hovering with his limbs splayed outward, his sword upon the ground below. Pi’Kraul’s head whips violently as Bez’Lok calls to him. Pi’Kraul is not himself, and flies silently, swiftly into the darkness.
