I have a young niece who on one occasion was struggling to pay her apartment rent. I wanted to help her but was on a shoestring budget myself. I became frustrated because there were limits to my resources. In fact, when this happened, I looked in my purse and counted only $5 in cash that I could use to help her with rent.
Then, at that moment somehow the Bible story about how Jesus fed the 5,000 from just a few loaves of bread and fish came to mind. An inspiration came into my heart to pray a heartfelt prayer that was worded something like the following: "Jesus, could you please multiply my $5 like you multiplied the loaves of bread and fish so I can help my niece with her rent?!".
I prayed this prayer in front of the Monstrance at my local Eucharistic Adoration chapel before I went to work. Then when I got to work, my manager casually asked me how I was doing and I told him about my niece (I never asked for any money at all). After I finished telling him about her, he left my office for a few minutes. When he came back in, he voluntarily handed me a check for $500 and some dollars as a donation for their rent! Immediately, I thought of my prayer and how God, through the kindness of my boss, multiplied my original $5 to over $500 so I could now help my niece! Jesus who, in His love a mercy, multiplied a few loaves to feed the 5,000 in the Bible, is still the God of miracles today multiplying love and blessings no matter how small!
