🎭 Ewan's debut play 'The 4 Worst Things I’ve Ever Done' wowed audiences at Edinburgh Festival Fringe and beyond, and for his follow-up he's joined forces with Beth to bring 'Five Year Stand' to life for its premiere in the Grand Opera House's Studio.
🎭 Beth has directed plays in the Naughton Studio at the Lyric Belfast and the O'Reilly Theatre, Dublin.

“Hi! My name is Ewan McGowan and I’m the director of Five Year Stand.

Five Year Stand is truly a modern love story. What does it mean to be in a relationship with everything that has gone on in the past 5 years? How has the world changed? How do people change? How do we change each other?

Audiences can expect a real rollercoaster of emotions. It’s funny and sad and everything in-between. Getting the opportunity to have the show in the Grand Opera House really is special and we can’t wait to finally show it to everyone.”

Ewan’s debut one-woman show, ‘The 4 Worst Things I’ve Ever Done’ was nominated for Best Online Show at the Off-West End Awards. ‘4 Worst Things’ was a sell-out show at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and was shown at the Ukraine Fringe and Vancouver Fringe.

🚨 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐭 - 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐎𝐧𝐞! 🚨

“Hi! My name’s Matthew Blaney. I’m an actor, and I play Shane, one of the characters appearing in 5 Year Stand.

Shane is a young man from a very sheltered, middle-class background, who falls head-over-heels in love with Úna. He’s very sweet and sincere, but also very naive. He has the shock of his life moving to England for University, forcing him to address his immaturity and question his identity outside of South Belfast.

Audiences can expect allot of laughs and allot of heart from a production that aims to reflect the realities young people have had to face over the past 5 years. It’s also a love story, with all the tenderness, messiness and growing pains we all experience from our first real heartbreak.”

Recently, Matthew starred in the incredible ‘Not Now’ by David Ireland, as well as the Oscar-Winning film ‘Belfast’ by Sir Kenneth Branagh.

🔹 Matthew Blaney as Shane 🔹
Matthew trained at RADA and has most recently starred in Not Now by David Ireland and The Lieutenant of Inishmore by Martin McDonagh. His film credits include Belfast by Kenneth Branagh.

🔹 Sarah Reid as Úna 🔹
Sarah starred in Two Fingers Up (SkelpieLimmer) which toured Australia and Dublin Fringe Festival and in Rapunzel by GBL Productions. Plus, she's worked with the likes of Kabosh Theatre Company, Tinderbox Theatre Company Cahoots NI, and Prime Cut Productions, and can't wait to join forces with Brunswick Productions NI.

Belfast. 2019. Shane's off to University in London, and Úna has just flunked her A-levels. He's a wallflower, she's a rocket. They both wake up the morning after results with no memory of what happened the night before or how they got there.

They agree to stay in touch.

What follows over the next 5 years is a will-they-won't-they dramady about two people trying to make it work in today's ever-changing landscape. Brexit, Covid, Ukraine - Love's hard in this f***ed up world. But, in the end, it's all we've got.
