Today's Analysis: Debunking the myth of cold war between US & China.
Recently there has been a lot of media outcry over how the world is entering a new cold War between US and China just like America had one with Soviet Union. But any politically educated person will understand that either this is sheer disinformation on part of these so called media experts or just a publicity stunt to increase their ratings as people have stopped watching news channels after being fed up by saturated news regarding Covid 19.
The first and foremost thing to understand is that with US and Soviet Union there was clash of economic model; the US was vying for Capitalism and Soviet Union for Communism. However today, China is a heaven for Capitalists, hence the rhetoric of Marxism and exploitation of masses which was propelled by Soviet Union doesn't exist in this case. The communists who were standing up against the "bourgeoisie" during post World War 2 Cold War will ironically have no appeal to their narrative. With no such ideological conflict present, the economic clash myth is done and dusted here.
Now let's move on towards the political spectrum. Yes, it is true that China is not a democracy but it also doesn't follow communism as was practiced in Soviet Union even by the farthest stretch of mind. In fact, China is more democratic than many countries in the world like Saudi Arabia, North Korea etc. Of course, one can argue that the Chinese regime suppresses human rights, but it is not something unique only to China and has recently been observed more and more in nearly all countries, most notably India, Brazil and even the United States. Also, with US crimes exposed in Guantanamo Bay and needless war in Iraq with no WMDs ever recovered, US has lost the moral high ground which it once held.
Lastly, don't forget that Soviet Union and US had minimal trade, only around 1 percent of their total trade volume, while both America and China are largest trading partners of one another, therefore, both stand more to loose than to gain in the scenario being pushed by media giants. Any such move will result in economic collapse for both superpowers.
To conclude, yes there is a conflict of interest between US and China in regions such as Middle East (Iran especially) and subcontinent, but at the end of day sovereign nations will always put their own interests before the interests of their allies. For now, it will be best to consider Trump's "Chinese Virus" statements as his re-election campaign tool and to hide his administration's failure to handle corona virus in US. Donald Trump needs an "other" to win elections. Last time, it was Muslims and Mexicans, this time it is China.
