We have faced a lot, and this independence has not come to us for free. Always value it and appreciate it. As we commemorate the anniversary of the Philippines' independence, let us pay tribute and honor the sacrifices of our fellow Filipinos, who fought and paved the way for our freedom and future.

On this day, a nation was born. The Philippine Flag, a symbol of unity and hope, was raised for the first time, signifying the end of centuries of Spanish captivity. It is a moment of profound joy and liberation, a time to honor the struggles and sacrifices of the Filipino people in their fight for freedom and self-determination. However, the path to true independence was not paved with roses but with blood.

As we move forward, let us draw inspiration from the sacrifices of our ancestors. On this Independence Day, let us not merely celebrate the past but commit to building a brighter tomorrow, perhaps a brighter Philippines. Let us remember the words of Elias from ‘Noli Me Tángere’ a novel created by our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal: “Mamamatay akong hindi nakikita ang ningning ng bukang-liwayway sa aking bayan. Kayong makakakita, salubungin niyo siya at huwag kalimutan ang mga bulid sa dilim ng gabi.” Once again, Happy Independence Day!

The ceremony acknowledges the achievements of the grade 12 students and portrays that they are now ready to take another step in life. Graduates now celebrate their achievements, bid farewell to the school and one another, and prepare to embark on a new journey.

𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗱

Have you seen a perfect movie? Have you ever felt the bittersweet feeling of watching the credit scene of that movie?

From the moment we first stepped into high school, we anticipated this day. Graduation isn't merely the end of our high school journey; it's the dawn of a new adventure. It truly is the beginning after the end.

Graduation day is the day we look forward to since the day we set foot in high school. It is the end of our high school days and the beginning of our new journey. The beginning follows the end.

Six years—six formative years—filled with numerous moments. Six years of making memories, sharing experiences, and collecting those small, embarrassing moments that, looking back, seem to define our high school days. "It's about the journey, not the destination," as told by Emerson himself.

"Research defended!" is the phrase that is music to our ears, the culmination of relentless hard work. The moment we reap the hard work that we sow, but that’s just a single part of it. Remember those nights spent burning the midnight oil for that one particular test, only to find that the thing that you'd studied wasn't on the test? Remember the confidence you had in an answer, only for it to be proven wrong? And we could never forget the pandemic days, when our homes turned into classrooms and we spent each day answering the endless waves of modules. There were days when we crammed endlessly, buried in schoolwork. Days when sleeping was a luxury, and we arrive at school with an hour of rest at best. Friends were made along the way, as well as rivals. Yet amidst the struggle that we faced, we're sitting in these chairs right now, waiting for our name to be called atop the stage.

Graduation Day is the day we bid our alma mater farewell. The day we say goodbye to the teachers and advisors who guided us, the day we say thank you to our parents who supported us, and to the friends who laughed and cried with us. As we stand on the stage, we realize that while our paths may differ from each other, the bonds we've formed will always remain a part of us. Graduation day marks the end of our high school days, but it also highlights the beginning of the new journey ahead, the journey to the unknown. It’s the end of a chapter, but the story continues with new challenges and opportunities.

So, as we shift from this familiar world to the real world and to the unknown, let's embrace the emotions that come with it. The nostalgia for the past, the excitement of what lies ahead, and the courage to face the future. It is the beginning after the end.

The event presents the sequence having the grade 7, 8, 9 and 11 students captivate academic awards and paved the honorary path of excellence they’ve obtained, marking the culmination of their hard work, dedication, and perseverance throughout the academic year.

The word goodbye is a color palette of the shades yellow and blue. How can one word paint two different emotions at the same time? It is moments like these that turn into memories; it makes one’s chest ache, but isn’t that the risk we must take?

In a blink of an eye, our beloved Scitechistas are now graduating, moving up, and heading across a new horizon in their academic journey. Can you still recall the first day when you entered the premises of our school? I bet nostalgia hits harder than our grades did. Your silent cries, burned-out nights, and sacrifices just display how much effort you have exerted to even get to this point in our lives. That is why tomorrow is a significant milestone that we must celebrate together.

To our fellow Scitechistas, keep in mind that life is filled with adversities and mysteries, but that is what makes it worth living. As you turn to another page, this will equip you for another stage of new experiences and endless possibilities. So let’s move forward and use the power we have to shape our destinies. "It’s okay not to be okay"

These are words shared by Ms. Kyra M. Helar, a registered psychometrician (RPm), during a symposium in line with Mental Health Awareness Month with the theme “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right".

An event that Kabasalan Science and Technology High School (KSTHS) recently organized aimed at promoting mental health awareness among its students was held at KSTHS Covered Court on May 24.

The program began with Carmelia Jhan Fate Abrajano, the guidance designate, outlining the purpose of addressing mental health concerns within the school community.

Joephy H. Saldivar then introduced the participants, composed of all the Grade 10, 11, and 12 students from KSTHS.

Jennifer J. Simyunn, a Master Teacher II in English, introduced Ms. Kyra M. Helar, RPM, as the resource speaker, highlighting her expertise in mental health.

Helar delivered a thought-provoking message, emphasizing that mental health is essential for coping with life's stresses.

She discussed mental health red flags and the importance of recognizing behaviors that require immediate attention.

Additionally, she stressed the significance of self-care and maintaining good mental health by connecting with others and seeking support when needed.

In her speech, Helar shared tips on stress management, encouraging students to avoid unnecessary stress, adapt to situations, and practice gratitude. She emphasized the value of being grateful and finding joy in everyday life.

“Don’t lose your dreams; get lost in them,” she concluded. Her message resonated with the audience, fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of mental well-being.

As a token of appreciation, the grade level chairs presented plaques, tokens, and gifts to Ms. Kyra for her valuable contributions. The event also featured a dance performance by Roberto R. Caliora III and the Indayog Performing Artists, creatively capturing the theme of mental health and its impact on individuals' lives.

The event concluded with acknowledgments for the organizing committee and remarks from the senior high school coordinator, Julive Tupino- Sevilla.

Overall, the mental health awareness event at KSTHS served as a platform to promote dialogue, understanding, and empathy regarding mental well-being, aiming to empower students to prioritize their mental health and cultivate resilience within the school community.

The past few days have been a roller coaster ride, leaving many of us feeling drained and stressed. But dearest gentle reader, see the world and realize that it's okay to not be okay—your feelings are valid.

Amidst the “gikapoy nako,” “tama na pls,” and “dili nako,” you are here, alive and kicking, ready to move forward with resilience.

We hear you. We see you. We feel you.

Each one of us is navigating our own journey, and it's essential to recognize and honor our emotions. Join us on the 24th of May, at 8:00 a.m., as Kabasalan Science and Technology High School will be having a Mental Health Awareness Program with the theme “World Mental Health Day 2024: Mental Health is a Universal Human Right," together with our resource speaker, Kyra M. Helar RPm, as she shares her expertise and enlightens the student body about this conspicuous matter.

Let us come together to listen, learn, and grow. Your presence matters, and together, we can foster a more compassionate and resilient environment.💚

𝐏𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝, 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝

Inquisitive and innovative are two words to describe what the students from the grade 10 Kepler and Galileo Special Science Classes (SSC) have shown throughout the making of their research papers. The amount of effort and sacrifices that led up to the research defense, which was held on May 13, 2024, at the Kabasalan Science and Technology High School (KSTHS) science laboratory, has ultimately highlighted their most skillful and multi-layered works to date.

With the help of their research teacher, Mr. Val Daryl Anhao, and creative technology adviser, Mr. Juliver Sevilla, eight groups of aspiring researchers showcased their works to a panel of judges that included Mr. Alvin S. Cariaga, Mrs. Nedy Hangalay, and Mr. Jozel John Calumba.

This research defense is a pivotal moment in their academic journey. The limitless boundaries of scientific learning are based on sharp minds and a commitment to collective progress, and they proved that they are the epitome of that to achieve the necessary steps for completion and excellence.

𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁

The graduating Kabasalan Science and Technology High School (KSTHS) students held a culminating event to demonstrate the ability and expertise they’ve obtained during their senior year. Each academic strand upholds different activities in different fields on May 10, 2024.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students organized a project display of robotic inventions for public viewing inside the campus, tagged “Research Capstone." Moreover, the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) Students also participated the culmination to comply for their portfolio, and the Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Students proceeds to complete a Business Enterprise Final Simulation (BES).

The event aimed to foster a spirit of curiosity and encourage the pursuit of knowledge within the school community. The culmination was conducted as a requirement for their academic compliance; it was then concluded on the same day.

𝗞𝗦𝗧𝗛𝗦 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗙𝗢𝗧'𝘀 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝘆

Zamboanga City-Kabasalan Science and Technology High School (KSTHS) students demonstrated their exceptional skills and talents at the recently concluded Regional Festival of Talents (RFOT). The event, with the theme "Galing, Talino, at Husay ng mga Batang Makabansa," took place from May 8 to 11, 2024, at Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School in Zamboanga City.

The RFOT brought together student researchers from the eight school divisions of Region 9, aiming to highlight the scientific prowess of young individuals across various fields of study.

On May 9, the highly anticipated STEMazing category took place, featuring the participation of a team composed of KSTHS students, namely Xianne Marguerette P. Damiles, Angel Vennese D. Angeles, and Marc Isiah N. Ocharon, led by their coach, Nedy Hangalay. The team showcased their exceptional skills and competed in this challenging category.

Following intense competition and rigorous evaluation, the KSTHS team emerged with an impressive third-place finish in the STEMazing category. Their remarkable achievement is a testament to the students' remarkable skills and talents.

The KSTHS community extends its heartfelt congratulations to the students for their dedication and exemplary representation of the school in this esteemed competition.

The young pens in our generation have molded the lives of many for the better. They strive for transparency in all their actions, making our planet a better place to live. They embody the symbol of hope and inspiration for countless individuals. They are prime examples of a journalist, wherein no matter the age and differences, has served their role in advancing our societies and reaching new heights. In honoring their commitment to truth and integrity, young journos exemplify the unwavering dedication that defines their burning passions, ensuring that the light illuminated by the press continues to guide us toward a brighter future.

In a world where information is power, journalists serve as the guardians of truth, holding accountable those in positions of authority and shedding light on the often overlooked issues facing society. Their relentless pursuit of truth is not only a testament to their unwavering dedication but also an affirmation of the fundamental principles upon which democracy thrives. 𝘌𝘨𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘮 𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘶𝘴: 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧-𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧𝘧 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴

“Reputable and transparent”, that is what the annual arrival of brand-new Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) officers are expected to possess whilst cementing the ideal foundations of the masses within the walls of every institution. It is known that the SSLG plays a role in representing the voices and interests of the student body—uplifting the hopes for both unity and positive change, but how sure are we that this is not just a facade in the making for someone to exploit their status for self-benefit? Egocentricism has been an issue among student governments since people only tend to see the tip of the iceberg: which is the bare minimum done for the students’ concerns—when the misuse of monetary funds, fame-seeking and manipulation of school rules are hidden in plain sight. Once corrupted leaders are built high, they will be the last to watch their school fall and that is why they must be stripped off their title and put to a stop.

Now, think about it, are these so-called "leaders" here because of heroism or is it merely a typical form of performative activism? According to The Department of Education (DepEd), “The SELG/SSLG shall pursue, practice, and uphold at all times, the principles of good governance, the value of integrity, renouncing all forms of corruption...” The power given to them can make one say that it is a "wasted potential"—there are still problems within the campus like waste disposal, poor discipline, and immorality, yet they prioritize personal agendas over the welfare of their peers. But of course, since the platforms were presented at the beginning of the election, people are quick to make assumptions of an ideal "all-perfect leader"—when that thought itself does not exist. Although they claimed their respective duties as SSLG officers, not being rich in promises but in delivery should ultimately be enough to hold them accountable.

Student leadership does not equate to perfection, but that gives us room for improvement. It is of upmost importance to give attention to the concerning instances of privilege misuse, lack of openness, and egotistical tendencies within the student government. It is necessary to recognize that while everyone may be a leader, that does not mean that everyone deserves to be in that position due to the exploiting beneficiaries who are just leeching from the system. Can you envision the outcome if this issue persists to be overlooked? It will be an overall disadvantage on the students’ part and will only encourage inequality, which is unacceptable and distasteful—We must collectively avoid and eradicate egocentricism to promote progression for the betterment of everyone’s well-being.

Beyond the Trophy: Scitechistas' Environmental Message in SIYENSI-KULA Achieving complete cleanliness is to achieve nirvana. Discover how cleanliness is woven into the culture of a scitechista as the dedicated students of grade 11 STEM Pythagoras, the top contender who secured the first position in the event SIYENSI-KULA, in the celebration of the National Science Month 2023 with the theme "Global Science for Global Well-being".
