Barangay Canada: Building a Nationwide Village

Barangay Manitoba is the local component of the Barangay Canada Project which aims to document and share the stories of how newcomer communities in rural areas of Canada integrate and thrive in their respective locales. Barangay is a Philippine term for a small village, indicating that the project's focus is on Filipino newcomers initially, but with plans to expand to other ethno-cultural groups. Barangay Manitoba also has a print media presence, as a column in the Manitoba Filipino Journal.

Kris Ontong was selected as the local coordinator and presenter for his active role in the community as past president of the Southeast Manitoba Filipino Association (SEMFA), 2019 Awardee of the National Filipino-Canadian Heritage Month, and Community Service nominee at the 2019 Golden Balangay Awards.
