Great news! The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council has introduced a new rule to ensure that all new lawyers believe in the finality of the Prophethood of Hazrat Muhammad (ﷺ) before they are allowed to practice.

The council's executive committee, chaired by Syed Mubashir Shah, recently discussed the matter and decided that new entrants to the field will be required to submit a declaration confirming their belief in this regard.

To make things easier, the council has provided a sample declaration for lawyers to follow. The lawyer must declare that he/she solemnly swear that he/she believes in absolute and complete finality of Prophethood of Hazrat Muhammad (ﷺ). The lawyer will further declare that he/she is not follower of anyone, who claims to be a prophet in any sense of words or of any description whatsoever after Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

The Biden administration will continue to allow tens of thousands of Afghans who fled Taliban control more than two years ago to stay and work in the U.S., as congressional efforts have stalled that were meant to permanently resolve their immigration status, according to two people familiar with the plan.

As soon as this summer, eligible refugees will be able to renew temporary work permits and protections from deportation for another two years, according to two administration officials, who spoke to The Associated Press condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to discuss plans that haven’t yet been released. The protections were initially given in 2021, and renewed last year.

The effort is a temporary fix for more than 76,000 Afghans who arrived in the U.S. following the military's chaotic and deadly withdrawal of U.S. troops, some of the darkest moments of Biden's presidency. Many of those who arrived in the country have worked with U.S. officials, some for many years, as translators, interpreters and other partners.

03/05/2023

Foreign ministers of China and Afghanistan are set to visit Islamabad later this week on a crucial visit to discuss the current situation in the neighbouring country and importantly how to deal with terrorist sanctuaries.

This is only the second visit of Amir Khan Muttaqi to Pakistan since Taliban returned to power in August 2021. Also it will be the first visit of new Chinese foreign minister.

There has been a surge in terrorist attacks in Pakistan since the Taliban takeover. This was contrary to expectations of Pakistan that Taliban returning to power would address Pakistan’s concerns. Instead the TTP and its affiliates feel emboldened with the Afghan Taliban taking over Kabul.

The Afghan Taliban, who earlier tried to broker a peace between Pakistan and the TTP, are facing a renewed pressure from Islamabad as it is no longer seeking peace talks with the terrorist group. Pakistan is hoping that Muttaqi would come with a concrete plan to eradicate the terror threat.

The IEA fighters took control of the Kabul airport before dawn on Tuesday following the withdrawal of the last US troops, ending 20 years of war that left the militia stronger than it was in 2001.

Shaky video footage distributed by the IEA establishment showed fighters entering the airport after the last US troops took off a minute before midnight, marking the end of a hasty and humiliating exit for Washington and its NATO allies.

15/08/2021

IEA fighters entered the outskirts of the Afghan capital on Sunday and said they were awaiting a peaceful transfer of the city after promising not to take it by force, but amid the uncertainty, panicked workers fled government offices and helicopters landed at the United States Embassy.

Three Afghan officials told The Associated Press that the fighters were in the districts of Kalakan, Qarabagh and Paghman in the capital.

In a nationwide offensive that has taken just over a week, the IEA millitants has defeated, co-opted or sent Afghan security forces fleeing from wide swaths of the country, even though they had some air support from the US military.

The lightning speed of the push has shocked many and raised questions about why Afghan forces crumbled despite years of US training and billions of dollars spent. Just days ago, an American military assessment estimated it would be a month before the capital would come under insurgent pressure.

Meanwhile, negotiators headed to the presidential palace to discuss the transfer, said an Afghan official. It remained unclear when that transfer would take place.

The negotiators on the government side included former President Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abdullah, the head of the Afghan National Reconciliation Council, an official said. Abdullah has long been a vocal critic of President Ashraf Ghani, who has refused giving up power to get a deal with the Taliban.

Earlier, the insurgents also tried to calm residents of the capital.

“No one’s life, property and dignity will be harmed and the lives of the citizens of Kabul will not be at risk,” the insurgents said in a statement.

11/08/2021

Secretary General Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Farhatullah Babar said on Tuesday that the government does not seem serious in enacting its own bill to criminalise enforced disappearances.

“From some glaring mistakes in the bill to the fact that it is lying in the National Assembly Committee on Interior unattended for the past over eight weeks, it appears that there is no interest in it,” he said while speaking at a webinar organized by the Defence of Human Rights and Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD) on Tuesday.

Babar said hopes were raised when the bill criminalising "enforced disappearances" was tabled in the parliament for the first time in the country.

“However, it appears that some powerful quarters are still opposed to its legislation,” he said. The PPPP leader said even if the bill was enacted in its present form, it will still fall far too short of achieving the objectives.

He said ideally there should be a separate legal mechanism to provide for filing complaints of disappearances, holding perpetrators accountable and providing compensation to aggrieved families. “The bill brought before the National Assembly does not provide for any of these essential prerequisites,” he said.

He said internment centres located in former tribal districts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are beyond the jurisdiction of provincial police and prison department, where some of those falling under enforced disappearances were found kept. “The case is still pending before the Supreme Court since the last hearing in December 2019,” he said. He said ratification of the international convention for the protection of all persons against enforced disappearances should also form part of the new legal architecture

11/08/2021

Once brimming with combat boots, flak jackets and other war paraphernalia, the smugglers’ markets in Pakistan are being forced to rethink their business model as foreign troops exit Afghanistan and contraband dries up.

Along the Afghan border after 2001, smugglers’ markets mushroomed in Pakistan, offering military gadgets, clothing and luxury goods meant for American bases and compounds.

Pakistan’s fencing and sealing of hundreds of kilometres of the border in recent years, and the rapid departure of foreign troops have led to dwindling supplies.

“This market was famous for American and Nato goods and was crowded with customers,” said Mehboob Khan, a shopkeeper at Sitara market in Peshawar.

“Now the border is strictly closed and those goods can’t reach here, which has badly affected business.”

Tribesmen blocked the Peshawar-Torkham highway here on Monday to protest a search operation conducted by the security forces in different localities of Zakhakhel area in Landi Kotal.

Though no official statement was issued about the purpose of the daylong search operation, sources said security forces assisted by the police and lady searchers conducted raids on a number of houses. They said the personnel seized even the personal light arms during the operation.

Reacting to the unannounced raids, scores of angry tribesmen took to the streets. The main road remained closed till late in the evening.

The elders alleged the personnel even searched the rooms where women were staying. They asked the officials of the security forces and the administration to take them into confidence before launching search operations in future.

The elders demanded that the seized light arms be handed over to the owners and the security forces tender an apology to the Zakhakhel tribes for disrespecting their customs during the search operation.

The jirga decided to continue blockade of the road till acceptance of their demands.

09/08/2021

Iran has announced the closure of its key border crossing with Afghanistan’s Nimroz province after the Taliban took over four provinces in the war-ravaged country.

Media reports said the crossing point in the Milak district of Sistan and Baluchestan province has been closed due to a surge in violence in the neighboring Nimroz province.

The move comes two days after the Taliban overran southwestern Nimroz province which caused tens of families to cross the border into Iran from the provincial capital of Zaranj.

Apart from the citizens of Zaranj, Afghan government security forces also fled to Iran along with their armoured and non-armoured vehicles, but the Afghan Defence Ministry denied this.

In recent conflicts, the Taliban took over Kunduz and Saripol provinces and have entered the central Taloqan city of Takhar province.

Iran, though, did not officially deny accepting Afghan refugees in case civil war erupts in Afghanistan and Pakistan has repeatedly expressed concerns over the potential influx of asylum seekers which will endanger both Pakistan and Iran.
