KIHARA THE BEST AS THE 2023 KENYA JUNIOR MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER STARTS



After narrowly missing the Kenya junior Strokeplay title a week ago, Mikael Kihara showed class at the Sigona golf club to emerge the best junior golfer at the 2023 Kenya Junior Match Play Championship Qualifier.



Kihara picked up two birdies at the par 5 15th hole as well as at the par 4 17th hole. His second nine was only blemished by two bogeys to play level. In the first nine, Kihara started with two back-to-back bogeys before playing three level pars, then another bogey before closing with a double bogey at the last hole number 9.



“The qualifier was good; it was nice to see the golf course and see how it is playing and everything and get ready for the knockout rounds. The course was playing good,” said Kihara.



Despite starting with a double bogey at the first hole, Belinda Wanjiru composed herself to play level par at six holes and also pick one birdie in the first nine. Her second nine wasn't as good as she again picked a double bogey, three bogeys and a birdie for a gross score of 79, only two shots behind the winner Kihara.



“Even though there is room for improvement, I think I did very well today. I started very poorly but improved as the day went on. Putting was solid, my tee shots were solid, I enjoyed the day and had a very competitive three ball with me,” she observed.



Krish Shah who won the Strokeplay at Muthaiga a week ago was third with a score of 80 followed by Ngondo Kimemia and Adnan Merali who tied for fourth with a score of 81. Tied for sixth with a score of 82 were Zayan Din and Elvis Muigua. Kayden Wissanji, Ishan Samani and Mukundi Muthusi wrapped up the top ten finishers.

COUNTY TO TRANSFER OFFICERS TO SUB-COUNTY OFFICE SET FOR COMMISSIONING

Residents of Turbo Sub-County have a reason to smile following the completion of the state-of-the-art Sub-County Office in Kamagut Ward.

The office which is now ready and awaiting commissioning by Governor Jonathan Bii is expected to provide essential services including Artificial Insemination services, Agriculture extension services, licensing, public health, cooperatives and Saccos services by the already devolved officers among others.

According to County Executive Committee Member for Administration and Devolution Elijah Kosgey, the office is one of Governor Jonathan Bii's flagship projects noting that residents will be able to receive services closer to them.

He said their aim is the decentralization of services for effective and improved service delivery.

"The ten functions that were devolved in the 2010 Constitution, now benefit the residents directly" He said.

Kamagut Member of County Assembly( MCA) Samwel Sawe said that it is a relief to the sub-County residents who have been using at least Sh 400 per person to travel to the county headquarters in Eldoret town to seek services.

"Things will be very simple now that we shall be having all services just within our locality," noted Sawe.

Chief Officer for Devolution, Mark Some, said that the County continues to commit and serve its citizens wholeheartedly.

Chief Officer for Roads, Transport, and Public Works, Eng. Abraham Kiptalam, in his speech, said: " We want to appreciate H. E Governor Jonathan Bii for his leadership that he has provided when the project was initiated and has finally been handed over to the client.

"As Roads, Transport and Public Works department, we are so much delighted for handing over this project having completed all the scope of works within the stipulated time."

Eng. Abraham Kiptalam said: "This is a modern building which can cater for all special groups of people, the disability group, display of ramps, the toilets have also been catered for special groups, smoke detectors, very fine offices spaces that have been created among others."

Eng. Kiptalam further thanked the contractor for delivering quality workmanship.

On her part, Cooperatives and Enterprise Chief Office Ruth Samoei said farmer cooperative societies from the Sub County will be receiving services at their comfort calling on the residents to make use of the office in seeking all government available services.

The office is the third sub-County office after the construction of the other three Sub-County offices of Ainabkoi, Moiben and Kapseret.

Present were Director Administration and Devolution Florence Lagat, Turbo Sub County Administrator James Rotich, Huruma Ward Administrator Erick Omondi and Public Works team.

Parents of St. Luke's Cheptiret High School are expected to estimate the damages caused by students who smashed windows and vandalized the school premises last night before being ordered to return home, with the school management awaiting an assessment of the losses incurred.

It is reported that the students had boycotted classes and left the school premises at midnight, walking over five kilometers that night to meet with the county education officer in Uasin Gishu County to lodge their complaints about being given inadequate food.

The education officer sent them back to school after receiving assistance from the Uasin Gishu Governor. However, the students carried out the act of vandalism in the school premises on the early morning of today.
