Riding the Tropical Hut nostalgia bandwagon!
First time I had this was over a decade ago when I started working in Makati. Tropical Hut is probably the first time I was trying out something new because our small city doesn't have a lot options when it comes to fast food. I believe my first paycheck was spent on a TH meal because it's not as ubiquitous as other fast food places and thus held an exotic aura for me. As much as I enjoyed it back then, it's not something I'd really crave since there are other burgers that are easier to get every single time you want a grilled beef patty topped with cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes between two sesame seed buns.
And then that Twitter thread happened.
Suddenly, everyone had a hankering for this unassuming fast food place. And since it's been a decade since I last tried this, I reckon it's the perfect time to try it again. I don't remember what I ordered back then so I had to try a friend's recommendation: the Sili Burger. To be more specific, his recommendation is Sili Burger with pineapple. It was not offered to me when I visited their store so I had to try on its own. And it's what you really want in your burger. The patty is just juicy enough that your palate won't be overwhelmed with grease and the spicy is just the right kind of flavorful to give the burger it's character. And the sweet pineapple juice just complements the savory flavor of the burger. Have a bite of the burger, sip some pineapple juice and repeat until there's no more burger. And that's all there is to it. It's as uncomplicated of a meal as it is nostalgic. Tropical Hut is just like your afternoon snack elevated a little. And sometimes that's just what we all need. I think I'm going to be ordering this more often through my favorite food delivery service. And maybe pair it with beer.
