It was such a pleasure to sit down to interview the wonderfully talented Ashley Hess who’s a singer/songwriter and who you might remember from the 2019 version of American Idol. In this interview Ashley talks to me about her journey as a musician as well as her values and the legacies she’s inherited and those she is seeking to leave behind. Recently I was able to interview Chief Shon Barnes who is the Chief of Police in Madison, Wisconsin. I first met Chief Barnes when I was co-facilitating the Council on Policing Reforms and Race for the National Policing Institute. He is an impressive member of the next generation of leaders that are emerging in policing in America. Chief Barnes also is part of the 54th Mile Policing Project which is a documentary about a 54 mile walk he took from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama retracing the steps of Martin Luther King Jr. and John Lewis. In this interview I spoke about Chief Barnes' values and about the legacy that he's inherited and the one that he is seeking to leave behind.

Hemingway was a literary action hero who sought to live life through his (sometimes inflated) characters, and he emphasized virtues such as courage, grit, and the heroism of ordinary men and women.

I am my calling, and that calling is the center of my being. When I lose the center of my being, then I probably should just die. I’ve never felt released from that call, and I don’t anticipate being released. I can’t see myself backing “into the grave.”

We are sharing snippets of the wisdom shared in conversation with one of the few people who has known me since birth and whose birthday is today, my older brother Ron Copple.🎊

It was a privilege to sit down with Ron and talk about the great influence he has had in his life and the legacy he is leaving. We of course reminisced about our growing up years with some old stories. Ron is a husband and father and was a successful businessman in the State of Washington. He was also able to influence thousands of kids when he was the president of the Washington State Youth Soccer Association.
