Slide
Sliding into the weekend!!
This was super cool!! I got to go down the slide at Bartlesville Fire Department! It was really fun. Ha! 🤣
I tried on the air pack that Tulsa Firefighters carry to help them breathe during a fire. It’s so heavy!!
I tried on the air pack that Tulsa Firefighters carry to help them breathe during a fire. It’s so heavy!!!… Tulsa Firefighters will be carrying their air packs and wearing their other bunker gear as they climb the stairs of the First Place Tower in downtown Tulsa Monday for the 9/11 memorial stair climb. 250 first responders are taking part. They’re climbing 110 stories - the equivalent height of the World Trade Center.
Tulsa Fire Union President Matt Lay told me it’s important to climb and remember..
“We’ll climb between 35 and 40 stories 3 times to get to the 110 stories representative of the height of The Twin Towers. Firefighters will be in full bunker gear with an air pack. That’s about 65/70 pounds worth of gear. It’s hot, it’s heavy”
“Firefighters are definitely a brotherhood and sisterhood and we think it’s important to remember the sacrifices of others. We all kind of share the load together and that makes those folks know they’re not forgotten and even the labor it’s self, climbing 110 stories full gear is just symbolic of understanding just a glimpse of what they went through that day”
The climb starts at 8.46am Monday morning, after a speech, a moment of silence, pipes and drums.
The City of Tulsa has given Evan Dougoud the Star Tulsan award.
He’s the CEO and Founder of the BeHeard Movement - a non-profit helping the homeless community in Tulsa. The BeHeard Movement supports people experiencing homelessness with a mobile shower trailer, laundry trailer, clothing trailer and barbershop bus.
District 3 Councillor Crista Patrick, handed him the award at the City meeting Wednesday - recognizing and honoring Dougoud’s contribution to the community.
I’ve just been looking back at the videos from last weekend when I was there to see 5 vehicles - 3 of which were confirmed stolen - pulled from an old rock quarry in Nowata County. It was really cool to see them being pulled up out of the water. Experts from OK Diver went into the water to hook up the vehicles. Patrick Willoughby from OK Diver says it was pretty cold.
“Between 34 and 37 degrees water temperature but yeah just imagine getting in your freezer filling it full of water and then jumping in it and that’s kinda what it was like doing this”.
This is a video of the 5 vehicles that we’re recovered from the water.
I got to tour around Sarah Lopp’s amazing house in Broken Arrow.
She moved in with her husband and their 5 boys last June and they decided they wanted to do something a little different when decorating it.
Sarah calls the style “retro maximalism” and she’s named it “The Hippie House”.
Amongst other decor, there are pink cabinets, 208 disco balls and 4 murals painted by local artists; Raygen Treat and Kayley Giacomo from Hightail Creative Company.
An online post Sarah made about her house went viral and she says she hopes she can inspire people.
“It doesn’t matter to me if people like this style or farmhouse or whatever style they like, but I do think they should put some of themselves into their home”
Here’s the world record breaking car at the Hi-Way Cafe in Vinita. It has 60,066 stickers on it in honor of Route 66. It’s amazing and looks super cool!! The community helped put the stickers on as well some people who travelled from Texas and West Virginia to be a part of the World Record. The cafe is going to display the car and make it a Route 66 attraction for everyone to enjoy. ⭐️🚗
This is what’s left of Cindy and Lee Mayes living room. They live in Idabel and a tree punched in the side of their house. They hid in their bathroom as the tornado went overhead and told me “we thought we might die and we were praying we wouldn’t”.
The Broken Arrow community came together at the “Saftey Spooktacular” event in the Rose District. It comes as the city deals with the tragic homicide and fire which left 8 people, including 6 children, dead. Parents said it was important to come together and support first responders. The Broken Arrow Police Chief and Chaplain kicked off the event with a speech and prayer for the community.
Who else loves walking and jumping in crunchy leaves? This time of year is my favorite! 🍁🍁🥰🥰
I’m at Oktoberfest in Tulsa finding out about everything that goes into making the event possible. This band is called AlpenFetzer and they came all the way from Bayern to play at Tulsa Oktoberfest. Awesome!
Multiple fire departments are on the scene of a fire at a metal galvanizing plant at Alliance Drive in Verdigris, Sunday night.
Verdigris Fire Chief Mike Shaffer told Fox23 the smoke from the blaze went up around 3 hundred feet into the air.
He says they tracked the smoke coming off the fire to make sure no homes were impacted.
With the smoke going so high the fire Chief said that helped them, so it was able to be carried away and dispersed.
He also said this is a metal galvanizing plant and that this was more of a hazmat incident than a structure fire.
Shaffer says there was no need to evacuate homes around but advises closing doors and windows.
Shaffer - “As of right now we have no evacuations. We have a north wind and that wind is until Wednesday thankfully so no change in the wind. There are no evacuations downwind of this there’s no exposure as of right now to any drinking water or anything but there are precautions that are being taken to make sure the citizens both here in Verdigris and downwind and downstream are safe”
I spoke to Amber Gastel at the intersection of Price Road and 75 in Bartlesville where she pulled an unconscious man from a truck after a 4 vehicle firey crash. Police say she’s a hero and I agree!
There are so many cool things to see at The Church Studio… but check out this picture and video of the man himself… Leon Russell. Awesome! 😎
