Extremely delighted to say, together with Prime Direct Distribution , we’ve raised over £4750 for The Black Curriculum since the reissue of Special Touch – Garden of Life [HSREC001] came out and we will continue to donate every penny for as long as the record sells 💞

It’s been such an amazing experience reissuing such an incredible album, that we, and many others, never thought would see the light of day again. Working with Robert and Doval aka Duval on this has been a joy, ever since that first phone call with Robert it’s been smiles and stories every step of the way. Considering how few of the original got pressed back in the day, it’s also been a pleasure to be able to pay another £4750 to Rob and Doval and give them their proper dues 👑

Big big thank you to everyone who has supported, bought, played, listened and danced to this special body of music, seeing how much it means to so many people, not least Robert and Doval, is what it’s all about. It’s also so nice to see the guys back making music as Special Touch, teaming up with our good friend Esa on his new single ‘I See You’ 👌

Massive thanks to Spencer Broughton, Richard Stewart and Prime Direct Distribution for doing this as a not-for-profit release and allowing us to donate a sizable chunk more because of that fact 🙏

Finally, eternal love to Robert and Doval for believing in us to do this reissue properly, considering it was our first ever release too and to Sonia Johnson for helping us track down Robert in the first place. For all those people asking about the rest of the TSR catalogue, don’t you worry there’s much more to come 😊

INCOMING 📡 Announcing our last party of the year at The Pickle Factory on Friday October 22nd, as we bear down on our £5,000 fundraising target for The Felix Project with the help of some certi party-starters.

Headlining the party is the incredible mad miran 🇳🇱 who we've been wanting to get over to the party for what feels like an age now. She's joined by two close friends of the party, Berlin based Katiusha and Space•lab’s Dr. Baird (Nicolas Birdman), with us on warm up duties 🛸 It's a line-up we're proper excited about, can't wait to hear this one play out through Pickle's beaut d&b system.

We announced this early to the H&S hotline (send us a DM if you’d like to be added) and we’re already down to our last handful of 1st release tickets on RA. Don’t hang about if you fancy it!

Just like us, we’re sure you’re all gassed to be returning to the dancefloor! But with the Gov’s lack of direction we’re taking some of our own safety measures:

One of the following will be required to gain entry to the party:

1) A valid NHS Covid Pass to show you have been double jabbed or showing that you have a negative PCR / Lateral flow test within the past 24 hrs. Alternatively a physical vaccine card with your name showing you have had both jabs will be accepted.

2) We understand some do not want to use the app and some do not want to get the vaccine, therefore we will accept a negative PCR or lateral flow test (which can be logged on the Gov website) text / email showing your result from the past 24 hrs.

If you're struggling to get your hands on a lateral flow test let us know and we will help.

If you have purchased a ticket and test positive for COVID-19, have any symptoms, or have been contacted by test & trace / have come in contact with someone that has tested positive,
PLEASE DO NOT COME 🙏

Instead use the RA resale function to sell your ticket – the party is sold out so the demand is high for tickets. Alternatively get in touch with us directly and we’ll move your ticket to another date or give a refund.

A couple of other things:

- Masks will not be mandatory at our parties, but we respect anyone who would like to wear one and ask all event attendees to respect their decision.
- The Pickle Factory will be providing hand sanitiser around the venue, please make good use of it.
- Temperature checks will be mandatory at the door and anyone with an usually high temperature will not be allowed in.

Heels & Souls has been a family affair since day dot. Six years down the line it's no different, whether it’s new faces or old we just want everyone to feel comfortable, get down to some of our favourite selectors and have a good time! Please come and talk to us if you feel uncomfortable at any point.

Any questions / suggestions feel free to drop us a message. We’re all in this together and can't wait to share the dance with you again!

Pat & Ben x

HSREC002 is officially out today 💫 A double header from the Frankfurt trio of, Manfred Holz, Michael Buchner and Jürgen Blömke, that's long been in the wantlist of many a digger, reissued and remastered for a whole new generation to discover.

Starting up the label has been a huge learning curve for us both, with some serious ups and downs already but to hold this second release in our hands and to hear that it's almost sold out at distro level is a massive moment for us!

There's a lot of people that make each of these releases a possibility 🙏 Big big thanks to:

CAP-Sounds for making these gems in the first place, being a dream to work with and letting us in on all the stories behind the tracks too.

Andrew and Richard (Good Block ) for whipping up a signature remix of 'Amazonia' that well and truly captures the essence of the OG and blasts it into balearic hyperspace.

Cicely Balston for the mind blowing remaster that is destined to do damage on a proper rig.

Robyn M-c for building on her cloud concept from our event artwork and turning it into this jaw droppingly good sleeve design 🌤

Kalita Records and Watson for the constant sharing of knowledge at all hours of the day.

Prime Direct Distribution and Spencer Broughton for making this record a reality and for matching our 20% donation to PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Su***de - a charity dedicated to the prevention of young su***de.

Endless love to everyone that's bought the release so far. If you still need the wax support independent record stores, and if you're after the digi grab it via our Bandcamp. Much love ❤

Super excited to finally announce HSREC002, a double dose of digger delights from an under the radar Frankfurt production trio 🇩🇪 Operating under two different aliases, on the A is The Soundstealers’ revered '80s electro nugget, 'Steal It An’ Deal It'. The flip brings to light the obscure acid chugger Amazonia, complete with a balearic rework from London’s tropical twosome Good Block 🏝

Robyn has also worked wonders on our sleeve, beautifully continuing the cloud theme from our parties, which will be used on the next lot of 12"s we have in store.

Out on the 2nd April, limited pre orders are up on our Bandcamp and all good record stores. Lastly, moving forward 20% of profits from the label and Prime Direct Distribution will be donated to a different charity with each release, first up is PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Su***de.

Serious 🤯 moment this! Gilles Peterson sticking our reissue of Special Touch - Garden of Life in his top 20 reissues of 2020 and having it front and centre on his post, alongside so many of our favourites from this year 🙏 The man is a legend and a massive inspiration, so this is a big deal for us!

The repress should be landing next week for those who missed out first time around – pre-orders up on our Bandcamp and at all good record stores.

Following the success of the 'Garden Of Life' reissue, we've joined forces with Robert Roper once again to release an official, limited edition Top Secret Recordings long sleeve tee, to keep you warm through the winter months.

Sustainably produced and screen printed on Continental's Earth Positive Heavy Jersey Long Sleeve. To reduce waste, we'll be running a THREE week pre-sale and only printing the amount ordered. Order before midday December 9th, and we'll try our best to get this beauty shipped out to you in time for Christmas 🎅

The 34 best DJ mixes of 2020 so far

What a lovely surprise, Mixmag have included the Tribute To Alex T livestreams in their best mixes of 2020! It just goes to show how special a week that was, a coming together across the UK and beyond via the wonders of the internet in memory of Alex, with a poppin chatroom throughout, his nearest and dearest on deck and nearly £12,000 raised for Meningitis Now.

Biggest of love to Seb Theodossiadis for such an incredible idea, to everyone involved in making it happen and to all those who watched, wafted and donated along the way 💞

DJs are still thriving outside of the context of physical dancefloors

The Pickle Factory

Seeing Pickle miss out on Arts Council England's Culture Recovery Fund two weeks ago was heartbreaking, both on a personal level and also for underground dance music in London as a whole. Soundsystem and programming wise it’s consistently the capital's finest and it is where we call home.

They’re hosting a series of socially-distanced Pickle Presents events at Oval Space from now till Xmas - please show some support and help them make it through this madness.

The Pickle Factory's in-house Fridays return in November, for a new series of distanced parties at Oval Space - Pickle Presents.

Today is the DAY!! Our officially licensed, remastered reissue of Special Touch's Street Soul holy grail, 'Garden of Life', is finally out 🙌

It's been an incredible journey across ten months, of which we'd like to thank everyone that's made this release a reality and of course to Robert for putting his faith in us and for being a dream to work with!

Big shouts to everyone that's bought the record so far and supported The Black Curriculum in doing so 💞

Special Touch’s “Garden of Life” is a UK Street Soul Classic

Massive shouts to Martyn William Pepperell for his excellent interview with Robert, providing an amazing insight into Top Secret Recordings and the backstory of Special Touch for Bandcamp 🙌
Seeing this pop up on the site's homepage was a pinch yourself moment and a testament to how far reaching the love for this record goes. Our reissue of 'Garden of Life' is out this Friday - grab a copy whilst you can!

With a reissue of his beloved '90s LP on Heels and Souls Recordings, DJ Mastermix—aka Robert Roper—is feeling revitalized.

Premiere: Special Touch - Music -

“The album sounds as vital now as it did then…” The lovely folk at Stamp The Wax are premiering ‘Music’ from our forthcoming reissue of Special Touch’s classic street soul LP ‘Garden of Life’ ahead of its release on the 16th October, alongside highlighting that both the label’s and Prime Direct Distribution's share of profits will be donated to The Black Curriculum.

A street soul classic reissued via Heels & Souls' new label arm.

Special Touch's UK Street Soul masterpiece gets a long overdue reissue

Much love to Lexis and Music Is My Sanctuary for giving us the keys to their 'Forgotten Treasures' feature as we speak about our forthcoming (and the first ever) reissue of Special Touch’s Garden of Life LP and recount the 9+ month journey we’ve been on in making this happen!

Reissue forthcoming on Heels & Souls Recordings, out October 16th 2020.

Provided we aren't all locked down again, a long overdue linkup with the Running Hot crew is going down at NT's Loft on the 2nd Oct. Balamii hosts, Youtube channel extraordinaires and edit dabbler’s with endless hidden gems in their collections and skills to match behind the booth, this one is gonna be fun! We’ll also be collectively donating the fee to our 2020 Possible fundraiser. Social distancing measures in place so table's are a must 👇

🚨 New mix alert 🚨 One of our favourite mix series Planet Trip Records gave us the reigns for their 16th edition so we cruised it out taking in the last of the summer sun. Expect everything from balearic, bhangra and street soul, to downtempo electronic nuggets and tropical cuts from across the globe + a bunch of forthcoming bits on Heels & Souls Recordings.

Biggest of shouts to Mike Who for giving us the nod ❤️ Listen below with something ice cold 🥶

03/09/2020

Beyond excited to finally announce that the first release on Heels & Souls Recordings is the crowning jewel of the TSR back catalogue and a street soul masterpiece, Special Touch's 'Garden of Life'. Working directly with Robert Charles Roper we have officially licensed and remastered, from the OG DAT tape, this 1991 gem complete with a full picture sleeve and printed inner liner notes, due for release on the 16th October 🎉

An impossibly rare record, seldom surfacing and trading hands for silly money on Discogs when it does, we never thought we’d own this record, let alone be reissuing it. Nine tracks of uplifting optimism, created by Robert and his vocalist brother Duval, that captures the DIY, street soul vibe perfectly, coupling raw drum machine hits with weighty basslines and irresistible synths.

For this first release ourselves and Prime Direct Distribution will also be donating our respective share of profits to The Black Curriculum, a social enterprise delivering Black British history programmes and teacher training to facilitate both national curriculum and wider societal changes.

Chuffed with how our Lobster Theremin podcast came out 🦞️ Recorded mid-lockdown, this is a socially distanced dive into the obscurer realms of deep house, IDM, techy rollers, progressive warpers with a splash of UKG in there for good measure. Snorkel up and dive in...

Heartwarming story of Sophie and Zac, who met at our party with Mark Seven, DJ Slyngshot / Deesigner and Brudenell Groove back in October 2018 at The Pickle Factory. Nearly 2 years ago already (!?)

"Funny request, I am trying to get hold of a poster from your night on the 24.11.2018. I met my boyfriend on this night and we've just moved in together and would like to print it and frame the poster to put it on the wall. Thank you so much for introducing me and my boyfriend and I hope we will dance again soon!"

Love to Sophie and Zac for sharing 💙 Excited and hopeful that we'll be able to throw some parties again in the not too distant future....

One week from Alex’s birthday and what happened last week is still hard to comprehend. To bring together so many people, especially at a time like this, to celebrate Alex’s life and legacy whilst raising over £11,500 for Meningitis Now is mindblowing. The standard of DJing and the chatroom vibe across the four days was ridiculous and the donations speak volumes.

Seb Theodossiadis what a beautiful idea, making Alex’s first birthday since his passing a remembrance and celebration he’d be so flattered by. It was an honour and a privilege to help bring the series together. For now, we’re going to keep the JustGiving page open, as unbelievably the donations are still rolling in.

Massive shouts to all the DJs for leaving our jaws constantly dropped, all the hosts, venues and helpers for making the streams so professional, to Rinse FM for clearing their schedule to air some of these sets and to everyone that tuned in and donated. To Isabel Von Der Ahe for the artwork, Lucy Jade Williams for compiling the voice notes, and on the London leg to Louis for his tech genius and kit generosity and Tor for the amazing sign.

Big love also to Sybil, Tim Perera, GiGi FM, Moxie and Shanti Celeste who treated us to some stunning remote broadcasts on Friday, but who we were unable to snap a pic of on the day.

Till next time we go Gary Deep!

Our Story

Heels & Souls - London's foremost not-for-profit party and the DJ duo of Ben Croft and Patrick Forrester.

Beginning in early 2015 with a string of charity fundraisers in the back room of a Congolese restaurant, Heels & Souls soon developed a nomadic venue policy, moving from fully functioning churches to cavernous brewhouses and moored barges before finally settling on The Pickle Factory as their de facto home in mid 2017.

Since then, their impressive booking policy has seen them rubbing shoulders with the likes of Pender Street Steppers, Tornado Wallce, D.K, Lauren Hansom, Bianca Lexis, Mark Seven, DJ Slyngshot, Mark Grusane, Zaltan and Il Bosco, all the while donating every penny made through the parties to charity. As of January 2020 over £17,000 has been raised for music-based mental health charity Key Changes, the Cosmic Slop affiliated MAP Charity and many more.

Their prominence as a DJ duo has risen in tandem with the profile of their parties. Unconstrained by genre their impassioned, all-vinyl sets navigate anything from boogie, street soul and ‘90s US house to breakbeat and UKG, with a soulful thread tracing much of their sound. It’s an approach that’s won them plenty of plaudits, with an RA ‘Mix Of The Day’, Dimensions DJ Directory membership and residencies at the Tate Modern and Number 90 sitting alongside appearances at Dimensions Festival, Kala, Secretsundaze, Meadows In The Mountains, We Out Here, Cosmic Roots, Queens Yard and Virgo in the summer of 2019 alone.
