The theme of TAUKO Magazine No.13 is empathy, and it seems more relevant now than ever. Gentle protests created with textiles, handmade embroidery, patches or simply putting on a dress of your own making, now seems an important way to take a stand as opinions escalate in a polarised society and concerns grow that more and more people are left without a safe space of support and security.

MOVEMENT design by Jenny Hassler , hand embroidery by Naushin Kaipally . In the designer's words: "Attach your patch to your jacket and go protest something!"

The jacket is made of Etta Washed Denim by (100% cotton, mid-blue).

This is a lovely story of a mother and daughter sewing together for and it has inspired us so much this past week! As we enter a time of year that many cultures honour as a moment of reflection and remembrance, Katrin and Anna's shared project and documentation really feels like the perfect example of how the timeless act of sewing connects us across generations:

"I have made many sewing friends over the years. Some have become real friends, even though I only see some of these women a few times a year. But one very special person has recently started to share my passion - it's my daughter! For a long time, the sewing machine was not for her. She preferred to crochet or knit. Last school year, as part of a gifted and talented programme, she developed her own fashion label .studio.08 and created a small, elegant collection. Since then her interest in sewing has grown".

Translated from German from Katrin's post. Check out her feed to read the original and see more of her wonderful photography. And we wish Anna millions of good vibes on her beautiful new journey starting with .studio.08. It is going to be so good!

This story is a gentle reminder that when we create, we honour and carry on the stories and traditions of those who came before us. When fabric is passed on, something greater is handed down: skills, memories and a love of the handmade. Take a moment today to remember those whose hands have shaped yours, and the legacy you're stitching for the future.

When we received the submission from Sara Hallander, the creative mind behind Mönsterfabriken, the whole team nodded happily to the timeless fit of LILLY pattern design. This is exactly what we need and want to introduce to the sewing community! The design is a beautifully fitted layering piece for the coming cold months, which can also be made into a light summer breeze dress to wear when the flowers are in bloom. Sara's journey into a true passion for sewing shows how the design is carefully crafted with a technical touch.

The LILLY dress pattern is available in the newly released issue No. 13 with layered paper patterns and as a single PDF online at taukomagazine.com. Better get it for your pattern library and start planning which version to make!

The knee-length layering version is made from "LightLoden" in blue (100% wool, 6.49 oz/220gsm) by Ecological Textiles. The light summer breeze maxi dress is made from white and green patterned viscose (3% elastane, 97% viscose, 3.24 oz/110 gsm) by SacresCoupons.

In Issue No. 13, we are proud to feature a stunning article about hand embroidery by artist Naushin Kaipally . Her work goes beyond the craft itself—it’s a powerful statement about embracing authenticity and breaking societal taboos.

Embroidery is a beautiful and accessible skill to learn, allowing you to add a personal touch to your garments or art projects. Whether you’re new to hand embroidery or have been experimenting with different mediums, Naushin’s work will inspire you to create your own piece and tell your own story through stitches.

As Naushin says: "In a world that often demands conformity, my art serves as a reminder to embrace authenticity. Embroidery, for me, is more than just a craft; it is a powerful tool for social change. Each thread weaves a story of resilience, acceptance, and love."
