I know this news is re-traumatizing for a lot of us.

The fact is, our legal system is pay to play and always has been.

Decisions like these essentially normalize r**e and sexual violence towards women and prevent future survivors from speaking out.

This was a miscarriage of justice by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court that will have lasting, horrific effects.

Where does unresolved trauma show up?

It’s so important we heal ourselves. When we ignore the traumas we’ve gone through, it doesn’t make them go away. It just makes it show up in other places...

There are a gazillion valid reasons why someone may not report. One of them being that survivors are often treated like the criminal; blamed, shamed, and minimized to fit a narrative when they do come forward. It may not be safe to do so. 🔸 Please, never forget that the decision to report is your decision and that there is no right or wrong thing to do. Only what feels even a little more right for you. It can be a difficult decision but it’s important to try & listen to your needs and wants and not prescribe to what others or the media tell you. 🔸 And whatever you decide still may not feel great and that’s okay, too. None of this is easy. You shouldn’t have to be dealing with this at all. Choosing not to report does not make your experiences any less valid.

I'm heading back to law school! ⚖

After careful consideration, I feel I can better serve the community in legal advocacy. Having done this podcast for the past year, listening to stories of survivors, reading about cases of justice not served to victims, I felt it was perfect timing for me to get back into my legal studies. I hope to be a victim rights attorney serving those who have been sexually, physically, and mentally abused.

We will be taking a short break before we begin the next season while I get back into the groove of the law school rigor. But please know, we are always here for resources and support! 🖤

🖤50th EPISODE ALERT🖤
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and today, to close out this month, I felt I would bring you an incredibly important story to me. You all have empowered me to finally speak my truth and share my survivor story. This is why I advocate.

A special thank you to all who participated in sharing "Why I Advocate" for this episode.

And an extra special thank you to Rosebud Ireland for lending us her beautiful song Sister Survivors for this episode.
