Today's poem was inspired by the self love journey I have been on for a while and really asking myself "Who Am I?" You would think that woul be easy but nah lol. For today's woman in history, I would like t highlight, Henrietta Lacks. Now Mrs. Lacks is not known for the common reasons that many are, but her story is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. Henrietta Lacks was a woman looking for help for cervical cancer and ended up having her DNA used without her consent. DNA that is still used till this day, decades later. Mrs. Lacks did not know her cells were being used, and though she eventually died from her cancer, neither she nor her family has been compensated for the many things in medical science the research of her cells have done. This is a story of consent in medicine, a system taking advantage of a sick woman, and the history of medical science that may not be so clean.

For the rest of Women’s History Month, I will be highlighted inspiring women in history, with an emphasis on women of color. Today we learn about Jane Bolin, a huge inspiration to me as a black female attorney. Jane Bolin was the first black woman to graduate from Yale Law School and became the first Black female judge in the United States. She exceeded past the glass ceiling and opened the door for many young women to come after her. Bolin used her life to help others, and so today we honor her.

Also Happy Valentine's Day to the booed up to the singles. This day is about love whether for the one you with, the ones who are there for you, or just to love yaself. I'm cooking me a big dinner, got my gift (the book from the earlier post), brought some champagne, and will be cuddled up with my big ass tedy bear watching horror movies lol.
