We,the Hindus don't celebrate Shivaji because of the reason that he rose to become a great emperor of sovereignty owning 100s of mammoth forts or a great military of lakhs of soldiers, elephants, horses or massive palaces of luxury or so on and so forth starting his life literally from a scratch as a warrior king winning his first fort of Torna at a tender age of 13.
But,we celebrate Shivaji for these very reasons that make him a true Janata Raja/Chatrapati/people's king .....
The kind of virtuous and righteous life he lived, the purposeful and meaningful life path he chose to live to establish Swarajya-Swadharma and save the Hindu civilization, the integrity of his spotless character with highest morals and values, the kind of intense influence he had on the Hindu subjects of this land, the transformation he brought about in the lives of Hindus etc...
Shivaji taught the Hindus to live a life of self-confidence and bravery with all dignity, self-respect,pride etc who were literally enslaved, raped, butchered, looted under tyrannical Islamic rule and crushed under the most horrifying barbaric Muslim stampede.
Shivaji made the most ordinary forest dwellers into great warriors of Guerrilla warfare.
Shivaji made the most ordinary peasants into great army generals and ministers.
Shivaji made the most ordinary Hindu subjects into good citizens who could stand up for themselves at times of distress, solve all their problems by themselves and fight back like ferocious heroes.
