Check out these incredibly synchronistic happy accidents that co-exist in some universe that smiles upon chance:

Did you know “Her Majesty” became a hidden track on Abbey Road by accident? Paul rejected the song from the medley but engineer John Kurlander was told to never throw anything away. Kurlander stuck “Her Majesty” 20 seconds after “The End” and an acetate was made from that tape. McCartney heard it and realized he liked the way the song worked in that context, and it remained on the album as a hidden track. It is the shortest of The Beatle’s tracks at 23 seconds. (Recorded before the band arrived to the studio and left in its original form).

Later when Paul McCartney offered to play for Queen Elizabeth at her home Her Majesty declined because his arrival time conflicted with her TV viewing of David Lynch’s cult classic, Twin Peaks.

Wishing a Happy Birthday to New York City-born singer-songwriter Gillian Howard Welch!

When Gillian
became a new Berklee graduate in the summer of
1992 alongside her country-folk singer-songwriting partner David Rawlings, the two packed up their acoustic guitars in Boston to meet the unknown in Nashville, TN. More than two decades later, they’re Music City royalty, with an amazing catalog of songs and recordings any music lover wouldn’t want to live without.

・・・
The passing of any popular pop icon is so often inked in the press by their greatest worldly successes when truth is, what did that success do for them? With Sinaed 0’Connor’s passing, here we are again with the press literally retraumatizing their readers with more of the same ill -wrought values she found destructive. Consider that it was not fame and fortune and how high Sinead’s recordings made it on the charts that gave her value or made her special. She was a true artist in rare sense - an abuse survivor who was in touch with the effects her traumas had on her life like so many are not. She used her success to honor herself and every other abused child to speak up and not be gaslit by a dominant mainstream culture that focuses only on “success in the charts! Be nice and proper. Keep your issues to yourself!”
She lived her values. She was not compliant and accommodating. Record companies didn’t make Sinaed -they were drawn to her talent and power that was all her own. They should have had her back when she stood for something. An artist who stands up for what they believe in is what we need in our world. Art and music can change the world. Sometimes fortune and fame follow and sometimes it doesn’t- but I greatly respect the ferocity of her courage to CALL OUT ABUSE, and how this is something that rarely happens in the mainstream without a bunch of powerful politics and usually men getting in an uproar over that which they choose to not see, because they’d have to change everything to protect the innocent, and life is too good making money and feeding the gaslighting machine.
Child abuse creates trauma that ripples through one’s life touching ever other life the traumatized one touched and spanning generations. Generations! Listen to her. To honor Sinaed is to listen to her, make reparations, and honor all the things she told us.

Imagination is drawing new connections between things you've been exposed to.

Our latest guest Dave Davies was inspired by the working class storytelling of American music such as Hank Williams, Frank Sinatra, Fats Domino and even Rogers and Hammerstein songs, having heard songs from South Pacific and Oklahoma that his sisters used to play him when he was a boy. Getting thrown out of school set his musical learning on a path he credits with driving him to experiment more.

We’re proud to share a new interview with Dave Davies, co-founder and lead guitarist for The Kinks, one of the most influential and quintessentially English rock bands. Dave has recently released his autobiography and an album that goes with it, which are both called Living On A Thin Line. He has much to share in this conversation about the creative process, how a sense of humor can drive good storytelling home, the emotional comfort of melancholia in songs and poetry, and what it was like writing the song 21st Century with Louise’s dad, Gerry Goffin.

Tune in wherever you get your podcasts to hear our conversation and a preview of Louise’s new single "Everybody’s Got a Story To Tell" dropping July 6! linktr.ee/songchronicles

"My songs examine and explore little specific emotions or situations or stories... They're kitchen table songs, like a conversation between me and one other person. It's almost like an alien has been sent to get emotional samples from human beings and put it all together on a record." -KT Tunstall, born on this day in 1975

What’s the most specific emotion you’ve ever heard expressed in a song?

“A guitar is something you can hold and love and it’s never going to bug you. But here’s the secret about the guitar - it’s defiant. It will never let you conquer it. The more you get involved with it, the more you realize how little you know.” - Les Paul

Les Paul, born this day in 1915, changed the way music is produced, recorded, and created. His influence stretches across generations and has impacted artists like Paul McCartney, Slash, Bing Crosby, and Eddie Van Halen.
