Not to be missed: Te Mako opening day celebration at Hillary Court!
The new Naenae Community Centre has an ingoa (name): Te Mako 🔥
Opening in the revamped Hillary Court former Post Office on 29 June to coincide with Matariki Puanga, Te Mako will be a place where locals can gather, connect, access services, and take part in programmes and events.
The name is of significance to Naenae: Te Mako was the name of the Naenae house and pā where Te Āti Awa rangatira Wiremu Tako Ngātata lived in the 1850s.
There will be opening day events for all the community on 29 June - watch this space for more details coming soon!
We need your help! We need to name the 4-6 rooms in the new Naenae Community Centre and we'd love to hear your suggestions for names and/or themes for names.
Send us your suggestions by 31 May 2024:
-- by email to [email protected]
-- via the suggestion drop box at Naenae Library or at Kokiri Marae Naenae Hub, both in Hillary Court

Don't forget to have your say on the redevelopment of Naenae's Walter Mildenhall Park! 🗣️
We've created a draft plan that shows five possible locations for the cooking and eating space at Walter Mildenhall Park 🍳 This space could include a BBQ, a preparation bench, tables to sit at and a tap for cleaning up.
We want your help to decide where this will go in the final design. Share your feedback before 5pm, Monday 6 May: https://haveyoursay.huttcity.govt.nz/walter-mildenhall-park

The original mural - the only time Ngan was known to use Linoleum in his art - was commissioned for the opening of the Post Office in 1959. It provided a striking artistic focal point in the customer service area, which also featured a wooden counter and ...
