If your website does not have a conversational hierarchy, You are not ready for Google’s new Generative AI search.

Some people call it contextual hierarchy and I call it conversational hierarchy especially to beginners who are new to this concept.

Its a conversation now, its a messenger now, except you just want your website to speak on your behalf.

How?

Understand the context of your user queries, and predict what the user will be searching next and make sure you touch every aspect of this in your preparation.

Its topical mapping, based on importance and search hierarchy.

If you are talking about ‘How to ride bicycles’ and not talking about Hazards, Road signs, cycling permit, health benefits, law for cyclists etc that your user will be searching right after searching for your main query, your topical map is not complete.

Make sure your website has everything that your user is looking for in this contextual domain, predict whats coming next, prepare for the intent beforehand.

No action item here. Just a conceptual post for you to understand how AI Generative Engine works.

Share this post. If you want me to share actionable items, templates and videos on this topic.

It is very interesting to see a shift in the SEO community, from only building backlinks, to not building backlinks at all.

Initially in SEO, no one cared about technical SEO, just make a website, put some keywords and start making backlinks.

Over the years of constant results of technical SEO people have got an idea that maybe only technical SEO will get them ranked? Nopes.

Both are extremes, both are wrong.

A good SEO Strategy is balanced on both sides, lets not forget backlinks are still the #1 Ranking factor.

So again, let's not go extremes on either side, work on both sides for optimum results, and stop running behind shiny objects.

Should we use silos as our primary internal linking structure?

You can.

But just like any other SEO strategy - it is oversimplified for the masses.

To make it more understandable for you:

We look at the cost-benefit ratio.

If a strategy is technical and highly effective but the audience that can understand is less than 100 users = small impact

If a strategy is easy to use and not that effective but good enough to produce results with 1M users that can understand and apply = Huge impact.

We SEO’s and marketers always seek markets where we can make huge long term impacts for many reasons.

That is why you cant find a blog or a resource dedicatedly talking about technical SEO but hundreds and thousands of blogs, channels, linkedin and twitter influencers talking about ‘how to grow your website with SEO’ - General SEO topics for masses.

Now Silo internal linking method is a product of the same model, Easy to understand but not veryyy effective like your own custom made internal linking structure.

A well thought and planned internal linking structure based on relevancy, crawl depth and link juice is 10X more powerful than a random silo.

So yes, you can use silos, but if you want to step up the game. Move on.

Google Search index is broken - Live examples

In 2019 Google set up a limit for the search results from a single domain to be maximum 2 for a search query, in some cases more than two but rarely.

Today in sept 2022, Single domains are occupying a whole first page of Google for different search queries.

This SEO strategy supersedes any technical, analytical and most used strategies in many cases: 👇🏼

And its not even a SEO strategy at core.

You can learn a thousand ways to make backlinks, a hundred ways to technically optimize your website but if you do not have any competitive edge in your market, sooner or later you’ll be out of the game.

How it goes:

In-depth research the market, understand each and every dynamic of the business and try to understand the gaps in the processes, in the user journey and user experience.

Get to know the shady tactics are being used by the business you’re either associated with or other businesses in the market.

…And fix them.

…And be loud and clear about your tactics and processes as a business - for the users

This is problem solving at core.

Connect it with ‘Satisfy keyword intent’

Satisfying keyword intent is not limited to just making your posts 10k words content.

It’s satisfying the users. Leave no stone unturned.

If it’s common in your industry to make long posts and put CTA at the end, and your research says that is a problem for the user, don’t think twice about what industry is doing, fix it. Make it easier for the users.

If its common in your industry to upsell products in a shady way, don’t think twice and be clear about it on your landing page, it will be your competitive edge.

If its common in the industry to play on thin margins and compromise on the service/quality - evaluate the circumstances and raise the margins but never compromise on the quality.

It’s subjective at the end of the day, but you will spend millions on SEO and wont get any long term results and if you spend the same in your business for the users, the cost of long term SEO goes down up to 50%.

Think of all the websites you remember that solved your x problems.

You wont remember a single one that is just SEO optimized.

You’ll always remember that fixed your problem.

Now here’s the clue; the same websites that you remember will be in SERP’s ranking all the time.

They dont get penalized, they are never ‘spammed’ by their competitors and they are always ranking no matter what.

That is the kind website you’d want to be, not just another website with ‘search engine first’ content and priorities.

Google announced they are going to release a new algorithm named as "Helpful Content"

Which means, if your content is not helping the users and is primarily focused to gain rankings and your target is search engine, then this page will be devalued.

This will be a part of their core algorithm, so do not expect any manual penalties, if your website is below the helpful content algorithm standard, it will be devalued automatically (I'm expecting some people will call it sandbox)

Having said that, Its the right time to audit your content, find out what needs to be improved and what need to me changed.

I'm sharing a Google Sheet for you to audit your content one-by-one to survive this update and recover.

This is the right time to stand out as most of the websites are not up to the mark with this update, so when some of the pages will devalue, some will rank even better.

This guy flipped his website for $5000 using the techniques I shared publicly.

He asked me to not share his name, but love the case-study he shared.

There are countless more case studies people have shared with me in my inbox and I'll share soon, 80% of them are from the free and public information I have shared on my page.

I always say, a good guidance, a good strategy and a good mentor can change the way you look at things and can help you reach your goals instead of years to months.

That being said, I'm offering 5 slots for my technical SEO Audit after Eid. Wanted to post it later but I think it will go with this one.
I charge way less to my facebook community than what I usually charge to our international clients.

We look at your website's all the technical issues, fixing each of them has given people a huge traffic boost (Check my profile for more case studies) - This also includes the growth strategy, and a one hour consultation call where we discuss everything about your website to grow and reach the goal, which is usually scaling and flipping. 🙂

Send me a message, Its a first come first serve basis like before. 5 Slots only.

25/04/2022

If there’s one question I’m asked more than a hundred times, Its: How to get indexed - Crawled but not index issue in search console.

It would take me a few minutes to answer but I am not answering on purpose and that is: When will we get out of ‘Quick hacks’?

Here I am making a post to resolve all your indexation issues, but for those who’re looking to learn, understand the game and play long term.

It takes bandwidth for Google to crawl your website and index it, and just like any company, Google would prefer spending their money on websites that are worth crawling and indexing.

The reason you’re not indexed is: Google has failed to understand the value of your website, and with these steps you can actually help Google understand the website by removing the clutter and highlighting the valuable information.

🤜 No topical Coverage: If you have a page about surgery and nothing related to this topic on the rest of your website, Its more of an orphan page, build trust, build authority and more importantly build topical coverage around whatever you’re writing about or selling, Once you have a cluster of content on your website talking about one topic. You stand out.

Check this post: https://www.facebook.com/BaigSEO/photos/a.354284670040710/357891713013339/?type=3

🤜 No internal linking structure: If even you have the best content on the internet, but is not linked together like a ‘Website’ - It wont reach its true potential, moreover it would take much more bandwidth for Google to crawl those pages on its own - Make the best internal linking structure based on relevancy and crawl depth. Help Google crawl your website and understand it, so it can be indexed.

Check this post:
https://www.facebook.com/106904161445430/posts/357896969679480/?d=n

🤜 Broken Sitemap: I made a video on this topic, Also it was shared after Robots.txt, your sitemap is the most visited page by crawlers, Its one-to-one conversation with crawlers, You present the pages to crawlers and help them crawl easily. Remove all 300 status code URLS, 400 URLS and 500 URLS - only 200 Status code URLS should be there - Exceptions are there.

Check this video: https://fb.watch/cCIgkfKHvm/

🤜 Thin content vs Content Rich Pages Ratio: If you have best content on your website, but irrelevant pages are indexed and crawlable, that’d waste so much bandwidth of crawlers before they’d even go to the content rich pages. No index nofollow such pages and highlight your content out of the clutter.

🤜 No published date on pages: it applies to blogs mostly but if there is no published date on your page, Google might consider it an outdated content and might consider other things before this. Google respects Fresh content, and its your duty to make sure Google knows it.

Check this case study: https://youtube.com/watch?v=iazJzMGDxkM

🤜 No EAT Optimization: Simply put: If the website is not considered authority or respected, Its always second priority for crawlers to crawl, Make sure your EAT is on point.

Check this post: https://www.facebook.com/BaigSEO/photos/a.354284670040710/357887619680415/?type=3

Once you fix all of these factors, I guarantee you wont face this indexing issue, and you wont need to ask for quick hacks ever.

This may not be the usual posts you see in groups, because its long term, its conceptual and it might get you out of ‘tricks’ forever.

I too face such issues, I have used shortcuts and quick hacks too, but its like panadol, might fix the quick fever but wont go to the root cause.

Contrary to the popular belief in our community - If you're in your 20ies, You should do a full time job to start your career.

In job, you learn many different things that'd cost you a lot of time and money if you learn them on your own.

If you notice something, most headlines are like "Entrepreneur Quit X job to start y"

and this is very common, Those guys actually have hands on experience with things, they know how the world works, how to talk to people, how to stay out of their bubble and more importantly their outside-in approach because of their job experience.

Our most kids start their startup because they want to, its a cool thing, Mostly right after their universities, no previous experience, no idea of how market works, and always staying in their bubble of community for feedback.

I get this, This idea of entrepreneurship is sold to you by the guru's who could not come up with their own idea but copy it from the west as it is.

Their education system is enough to prepare them for the market, our education system is s**t. Yet they start their career by working with good companies and then start their own business. Our education system is s**t. You cannot copy paste the same idea here. Sadly.

I am not saying you shouldn't start your business, In fact I am showing you a business hack, and that is to start working with another business as soon as you start so you can do better when you start your own.

Let me share how you can improve your bounce rate instantly by upto 30% with this intro hack.

I recently acquired a blog, and by just using this technique I improved the bounce rate by 37% (and a solid revenue spike)

Its simple:

If I’m a user searching for a mobile phone under $500 — I search it on Google and open any blog - their introduction is like:

‘ Well mobile phone is the most important part of our life and its important to have a good phone because bla bla bla ‘

Listen man, if someone is searching for a mobile phone under x or for x on Google, he sure knows what is a phone, why it is important, what are the types of phones and all that generic info.

Writing such introduction on the top of your content is a big turn-off and can p**s of many users even before they scroll down to your content and products.

First 3 seconds are critical. That’s when your user decides if he wants to scroll/read further or go back and open another website.

I use a simple hack for this: Its called PPT method

The first P is for the promise - Read the first line of this post, I promised I’m sharing this hack with you. You’re hooked to read further.

Next P is proof - Read second paragraph of this post, I shared how it helped me as a proof with numbers - You wanted to read further.

Last T is for Transition - Read the line after second paragraph, ‘Its Simple:’ This psychologically pushed you to read further - Right now, at this moment, I’ve got the user trust me in first 3 seconds and he’ll be scrolling down the content.

You do not need huge paragraphs in the introduction, that too generic as hell.

Most content writers do that to complete their word limit, Its bulls**t. Give them complete guideline on how and what they should be writing.

Fix it now on all your blog posts, You’ll see massive improvements in bounce rates and clicks on your products/ads.

Tag your content writers and get them started with this.

10/04/2022

It takes roughly 6 months to 2 years to build a solid niche website in most low to medium competitive industries.

It takes a few hundred thousand words of content written professionally and making sure everything is making sense for the users.

Alongside, It takes a good number of backlinks along the way to rank if for the money keywords.

But once it is done, it is an amazing asset with great ROI, and cherry on top — Its as flippable as you’d want it to be.

But it all looks good on paper, on facebook posts like this ☝🏽 and especially when someone else is telling you about it.

When you do it yourself: Each step — from chosing domain name to niche selection and topic mapping up to the very last of it is very very critical — One wrong move and you’ll lose it all.

Years of hard work and investment can be lost in a blink of an eye.

It is highly highly recommended to have someone onboard with you who’ve been through it all before, your friend, partner or your mentor who can guide you on each step.

I see people almost daily who’ve started a blog because it is a shiny object these days, and are working on it for months but totally wasting their time — Choosing garbage, illegal and seasonal niche with a very short lifespan, some blindly following influencers and copying exactly what they’re doing 🤷🏻‍♂️

My advice is to NOT start a blog and put your investments, time and efforts unless you really know what you’re doing or have someone to guide you.

Audit your Sitemap: One of the most common issue with most websites - It helps with indexing and crawling of your website.

31/03/2022

In a consultation call with an international SEO agency which was about technical SEO but at the end they asked me:

What customer acquisition channels I’d recommend to their sales/marketing team?

I said: SEO

Them: 😐 Hmmm… Nah SEO would be too much for us as we just started out and there’s too much competition in our country and some noisy stuff..it made sense for them but still…

Ironically these mfers are offering only SEO services and some content marketing stuff as a secondary service.

I wonder how they’d be closing clients when they themselves are not convinced about SEO being the right channel for their service

And cherry on top, They have landed some decent brands for SEO. 😂

I always thought I’m biased when it comes to marketing, looking at every product, service or business through the eyes of an SEO person, and whenever someone presented different views about different channels, I gave them benefit of doubt out of self bias.

But this SEO agency not believing in SEO? 🤷🏻‍♂️

26/03/2022

Google got serious about affiliate websites/product-reviews since 2020 — And after that we’ve seen multiple updates targeting affiliate websites and highly commercial intent keywords (for products)

This update will reward those websites who’re churning out high quality and user intent focused content with (mostly) hands-on reviews with EAT on point and the content that is semantically sound enough to be understood.

And on the contrary update will hit badly on those websites who’re spinning out existing content on the internet with their own words — Manually or with tools with absolutely no context, semantics and their EAT is s**t.

In my career, I have got plenty of websites penalised, de-indexed and badly hit by Google. Even the websites I spent my most life savings on. Big disappointment.

But in the same career I have ranked the websites and keywords most people filter out in keyword analysis tools because of their competition which is extremely high for most.

I cannot guide all of you 1 to 1 - but with these public posts my aim is to educate all of you enough to take your next step right.

And what is the right way? Data driven steps.

I wasn’t very vocal about what I know or do in SEO industry for past 10+ years, but I’ve been posting about the same things years back, time to time on my other profile.

Take this update as a learning steps of what Google is trying to do, from a bigger picture — You’ll understand what their next steps are. Be prepared beforehand. When an update is rolled, everyone knows what to do, the game is when you prepare before that.

So again, Do not be disheartened if your website ever gets hit. Its a part of the game. Most competitive SEO players get hit. Don’t worry. Instead learn the game so you’re a step ahead.

𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐒𝐄𝐎 𝐓𝐢𝐩: If you've an internal page that you really want to rank and trying hard for: Feature that page on homepage - be it menu, sidebar or even footer and see the ranking going up in DAYS.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭: Google crawls your website based on "Crawl-Depth" - The lesser the crawl depth, the more link equity they'll get and the more priority they'll get in the eyes of Google.

𝐌𝐲 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐄𝐎 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲:

1. When you are learning SEO, always have your own test projects to play with. Test your ideas, Apply what you learn every day to your websites. Doesn't have to be fancy, just a couple of pages would do.

2. Find a mentor/teacher when you start: could be virtual or someone in your city to learn basics and intermediate level. It will save you a lot of time.

3. Learn to humbly disagree with fellow SEO peers and even your teachers. People do not mind if you disagree with them, and its just the disrespect that cannot be tolerated. Disagree humbly, and when proven wrong, accept wholeheartedly.

4. Finding a teacher is a start, you have to push on your own. No teacher, mentor or any second person can teach you up to your potentials, Learn from everyone and everything, Blogs, Podcasts, Videos, Twitter, Facebook and just do not stop learning ever.

5. Data is to believe. I respect a lot of people in the industry, some of them have taught me a lot of things, but I do not take their word until it is proven logically and is backed by data.

In God we trust. All others must bring data.

6. DA/DR/AR/TF and all these metrics are 3rd party metrics, not an absolute ranking of your website. Different 3rd party tools have their own algorithm to determine rank of your website, some of them are good, but at the end of the day, its still a guess work. (Even Google Adwords data is not accurate)

7. If you are in client SEO, fair chance your clients wont understand your work, and your Wins are not Wins for them, Its alright, teach them, educate them, dont frustrate yourself. They have hired you exactly because they dont understand it.

8. Most Industry trends are just trends, its like the same like Tiktok, It was there and nobody cared, until some clowns made a fuss out of it.

9. If you are in client SEO, Never ever promise rankings and traffic, its not in your hand. Promise data-driven and quality work, based on different KPI's that you and your client mutually decide. Nothing less. Nothing more.

Other than that, Its an amazing industry, lots of growth, opportunities and very less fuss like other industries in Pakistan.

No bad s**t at scale and very small percentage of people in this industry engage in leg pulling and corporate politics.

I have found 99% of the people very supportive, helping and well wishers, and truth be told, most of my close friends are not my childhood friends, its the people in this industry who became such good friends that they're more like brothers.

Good luck with your career.

There is no such thing as "Domain Strength" and if there was, any of the orphan and dead-ended pages would've ranked on your domain. Listen to me:

Does this mean having a high DR/DA is useless? No.
Does this mean we cant rank a page/url if the DR/DA is high? No.

Its a conceptual post for you to internalise and understand how things work.

Homepage itself is a page, any links coming to this page would consider links of THAT specific page, any internal page will not be getting any benefit from homepage or root domain.

Unless you have internal links leading to all the internal pages while understanding the crawl depth and optimised for crawl budget.

A link from your homepage to internal page is a very powerful backlink.

All the pages you see ranking because of high DR/DA is not because of the domain itself, its the internal linking from root domain/homepage to those internal pages.

Any page that is 1 click away from homepage is crawl-depth 1 - These pages will get maximum Link Equity.

Any page that is 2 click away from home page is crawl-depth 2- This is more like second tier pages, they will get second most priority in link equity.

And so on.

Internal links are equal or more powerful than outbound link.

8 out of 10 times people hire me to audit their website and make a link-building strategy, I tell them to NOT make backlinks at all. at least for the next 1 year.

Educate yourself and squeeze the link equity out of your own domain first man.

I was reading this blog and she dissected Google's Patents for content to feature in snippets.

In Simple words: How Google Picks Featured Snippets from your Content.

Disclaimer: Not very practical tips, but good for your understanding of how Google perceives it.

When a query is generated, Google immediately analyses top 10 results for that search query. So according to the patents, Featured snippets can only be fetched from first page.

Then it analyses the text features of the content to see what fits in the featured snippets. What paragraph or list is the best answer for this query. - Content structure is very important. You can have the best content but if the structure is not optimised you will never be ranked in featured snippets.

Freshness of content is one of the factor Google analyses but it is not mentioned in this patent.

After all this, Google compares all top 10 content pages and whatever has the best snippet score ranks in the featured snippets.

I had one blog with 10 blogposts and 170 featured snippets. Content structure + Content Freshness.
