LABOUR'S DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Labour councillors voted as one to support the Local Development Plan, which will allow big housing developers to build thousands of houses on green fields surrounding Wrecsam if it's allowed to go through.

Plaid Cymru was the only party united and consistent in its approach, explaining that the population projections on which the plan is based were completely flawed. The borough's population was anticipated to rise by 10% back in 2013, now we know it's shrinking.

The Labour Government can withdraw this plan and let us develop a plan fit for our communities - one that focusses on affordable housing, protects our green fields and playing areas and safeguards best and most valuable agricultural land.

Ask your councillor how they voted on this plan, which would lead to urban sprawl as villages merge with the town.

The Labour Government's Local Development Plan for Wrexham isn't fit for purpose. That's the view of Plaid Cymru councillors who have offere...

The vote on the Local Development Plan on Wednesday is a fundamental test between democracy and developers.

The land outlined in red is the proposal for just one of the LDP strategic sites - as you can see it's larger than the entire village of Rhostyllen directly below it.

Wednesday's vote by Wrexham Council on its Local Development Plan is a fundamental test of democracy versus big housing developers, accordin...

Cllr Becca Martin joins local nurses on strike outside the Maelor today - striking for better pay and conditions after a decade of real-time cuts and being worked to the bone. But also striking to save the NHS for future generations - if we don't sort out better pay and conditions, there will be even fewer nurses and other health professionals willing to work in the NHS.

Back the nurses - you clapped them in the pandemic, don't allow the Government to slap them in the face with another pay cut.

LANDLORD FINED OVER HMO FAILINGS
Plaid councillor welcomes fines

A landlord has been fined a total of £130,000 after being convicted of 17 charges of failing to maintain and properly manage three of his licensed Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs).

The charges were brought by Wrexham Council’s Environmental Health and Housing standards team.

Arran Pritchard, currently living in Thailand, gave evidence by video link and was fined £114,000 in total for the offences and costs of £16,599. He had employed a manager to look after the properties who failed to adequately maintain or inspect the three properties.

The judge found that Mr Pritchard, as sole director of the properties, was not able to property manage them on a day to day basis whilst based abroad. He found there was a systemic failure to monitor maintenance and supervise staff ,resulting in properties which did not meet acceptable standards and presented a clear risk of harm.

He relied on his lettings manager who was unable to sufficiently supervise his staff and had failed to including the manager of these properties who failed to provide evidence of any inspections taking place.

You can contact the Environmental Health and Housing Standards team by e-mail at [email protected] or on 01978 292040 if you have concerns about the HMO you are living in.

Plaid Cymru councillor for Offa Katie Wilkinson said: "I welcome the news that Arran Pritchard of Pritchard's Accommodation has been fined with the mismanagement of a number of his properties. The challenges we face locally with HMOs are difficult enough without the addition of rogue landlords who are not only taking advantage of the housing crisis, but profiteering off our most vulnerable members of society.

"I hope this sends a strong message to the company and landlords as a whole, and that we see some much-needed improvements to the properties he manages in Offa and across Wrexham."
