It's true that you’ll become selfless for your family.

In the first few months of receiving my first salary, all I wanted was to buy the things I wanted, and I’d convince myself every day that I deserved them because I was the one working, hustling, and putting in all the effort. Whatever I wanted to buy—I bought. Whenever I wanted to eat out at a fast-food place—I’d go. But it turns out, you really do mature as time goes by.

One day, I asked myself, "Who am I doing all this for? Just for myself?" And I realized, no—I’m not hustling and fighting just for me. I’ve learned to be selfish with myself, but that doesn’t mean I’m neglecting myself. I've reached a point where it no longer matters if I can buy the things I want or eat what I crave. I've learned to balance on my own. My priority now is needs, not wants—I’m content with the thought that “at least I can provide.” That’s my happiness now, being able to provide especially for the people whom I love.

How many times have I looked at expensive shoes, bag and not bought them, even though I deserve them? How many cravings have I passed up because I told myself there would be another time? How many invites from friends have I turned down, even though I could have gone?

Life will ripen you. It’ll teach you the right way to play the game. It’ll teach you without you realizing it. And you’ll learn without noticing.

When you have plans, it's better to keep them to yourself.

Buy land in secret. Build your house quietly. Surprise them with the finished product, not the plan. Once it's done, then you can celebrate and share with others.

Date in secret. Propose in private. Shock everyone with your wedding invitation.

Let your haters see the reality and the outcome of your vision, not your plans. In a chess game, you don’t reveal your moves—you just act. The only time you speak in chess is to say checkmate.

So, keep them guessing about your next move. Act quietly and keep achieving, because in the end, your success is your checkmate.

If you love your parents, you'll listen to what they say. Their advice is where you'll learn. You're lucky if your parents still take the time to guide you, as it shows they care about you.

Always remember, they wouldn’t correct you if they didn’t see something wrong. Feeling hurt? Thinking of running away as a solution?

Before you do that, realize that the pain you feel will be twice as painful for your parents if you leave. Do you know why?

Because in doing so, you show that you have no fear or respect for them. It shows that you disregard all their guidance.

That’s painful for a parent whose only wish is to see you on the right path. Remember, as long as you're under their care, follow their guidance.

Time will pass... and what you do now to your parents, you might one day experience from your own child.
