The political associations with this title have pretty much ruined it for my content, so any further publishing will be under a new title which I am currently workshopping.
If you post or DM me with a general “hi” I will assume you are a bot and not respond, if you make it clear you are asking/talking about what I have published I will be happy to engage.

Apparently my podcast domain expired and is now being camped by some rando in kuala lampur 🙄
New domain acquired, tomorrow I figure out how to transfer all the things.

I’ve finished the “Root of Evil” podcast and am considering checking out Steve Hodel’s book “The Black Dahlia Avenger”.
Anyone check out both? Is it worth the additional read? Normally I shy away from Black Dahlia stuff as it seems to be a major lurid interest magnet but the case presented in the podcast was compelling (if incredibly hard to take in).

‘Root of Evil’ dives into the story of George Hodel, a primary suspect in Elizabeth Short’s 1947 unsolved murder — and it’s told by his great-granddaughters

Russian Medical school graduate and popular on-line travel writer Yekaterina Semochkina, (more widely known as Instagram personality Ekaterina Karaglanova) was found murdered and hidden in a suitcase in her Moscow apartment on Friday after her parents failed to make contact with her for several days. A man reported to be an ex boyfriend has been arrested in connection with the murder.
But that's not the lede you're going to find.

No person, regardless of their lifestyle, is more or less deserving of respect, but the broad reduction of even this accomplished and multifaceted woman to her Instagram is gross and very telling.
If you don't think the way we talk about victims matters consider a journey through the comment sections of these articles.

Sometimes I contemplate getting involved with Websleuths but I feel like I will end up being THAT obsessive person in a TC documentary.

Mind of a Murderer has a new season out so I'm actually all set... for a few more days at least.
Still trying to decide if I want to watch "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile", Normally I'd say no but I'm somewhat intrigued that it's from Elizabeth Kloepfer's POV.

Slightly disappointed they didn't use "How to Get Away with Murder" for the recommendation as that is a real show on Netflix right now :D

I’ve been watching TC stuff again, I’ve been binging myself, and I suddenly had an idea for new banner/sticker art when washing my hands this morning.

What does that all mean? I dunno.
But it’s what’s happening.

“He didn’t look like anyone’s notion of somebody who could... tear apart young girls”.

*scoffs* You’ve clearly never /been/ a young girl.

I used to be a bit of a Ripper theory fiend (definitely my TC gateway drug) and this is literally the first time I've heard someone bother to even ask who these women were in a context that DIDNT involve proving some vast Royal conspiracy about Gull or Prince Albert.
These women effectively didn't exist except in the context of the person that killed them, and that's pretty gross.
For over 100 years we've been blindly accepting the same exact narrative about the ripper victims that we have about so very many murdered women DESPITE no lack of evidence regarding the reliability of the contemporary press.

Jack the Ripper has passed into legend, while his five victims are forgotten. The historian talks about her shocking research and standing up to Ripperologists

Perspective.
Bundy was pretty much the LEAST intelligent, charming, and attractive part of the situation, but he’s the one who got a voice.

Via All Killa No Filla

With Ted Bundy on people's minds, Billy Jensen made sure people don't forget his victims.

Watching old Forensic Files eps on amazon prime & pretty thankful that I will never *truly* understand some minds.
Nothing like watching serial rapist-murderer Faryion Waldrip contemptuously blame the police for failing to catch him earlier (s7e25)

“Starting late the night of March 28, Margaret Press and Colleen Fitzpatrick took the highly-degraded incomplete DNA profile, and started combing a public genealogical database. Within a short time, they had a staggering hit: a first cousin once removed.”

After decades of work, and hundreds of leads, it was two experts at their computers, in the middle of the night, who cracked the case.

05/03/2018

Every time I hear a true crime show talk about how a victim was "truly an innocent" or "did nothing to deserve" their fate all I can think of is the innumerable troubled teens and less than perfect adults whose dissapearances and deaths never even turned an investigator's head.

27/02/2018

Connected note:
watching a true crime show centered in Newtown CT recorded prior to Sandy Hook is just... weird. So much discussion of “sleepy towns where this sort of thing just doesn’t happen” which rings so strange in retrospect.

In this case an episode of Crime Stories on Amazon Prime.

TC pro tip:
If your friend makes noises of divorce, says “if something happens to me don’t assume it’s an accident” and then suddenly and mysteriously “goes to visit sick family out of country” and ceases contact, maybe OPEN with that when you talk to the police?
This thought brought to you re: the death and famously wood chipper involved disappearance of Helle Crafts (aka the direct inspiration for the movie Fargo).
