Today, I invite you to get curious about how your child sees God.

Not what they know about God but how they imagine Him in their innermost being.

Why is this important?

Because the quality of your child’s prayer life will be primarily determined by their image of God.

The way they perceive God will shape what they feel towards Him and how they approach Him in prayer.

I am a good example of that.

For the first 10 years of my Christian life, I perceived God as a celestial policeman who imposed endless rules and demanded strict obedience to them.

Can you imagine what my prayer life was like?

It wasn’t a peaceful or a life-giving one for sure.

Every time I would close my eyes to pray, I felt God’s displeasure and disappointment.

No wonder I rushed through my prayers. The sense of my failure and shame was unbearable.

Only after I experienced God as a loving Father, was I able to approach Him with trust, relaxation, and love.

How we see God, decides how we pray and how we pray reflects how we see God.

Want your child to have a flourishing prayer life?

Take a few moments to reflect on your own childhood and how your earliest relationships impacted the way you see and approach God.

Then take an honest look at how your actions, words, attitudes, values, and habits contribute to the way your child sees God now and will see Him 10-20 years from now.

Most parents I talk to WANT to pray with their kids… they just don’t know where to start.

Life is loud. Routines get messy. And prayer often becomes “we’ll do it tomorrow.”

But helping your family pray together doesn’t have to be complicated.
Here are the 3 P’s that make it doable:

1️⃣ PLAN

Family prayer won’t magically appear in your day.

Pick a time and a place. That’s it.

In my house, bedtime is our sweet spot—same time, same couch, no guessing.

Think about your family:
Dinner table? Car before school? Right before lights out?

Start where you can actually win.

2️⃣ PATTERN

Kids thrive on consistency (and honestly, so do we).

In our home, we use the Family Prayer Calendar as our pattern.

One of my boys flips to the day’s prompt.

We read it → talk for 30 seconds → pray one simple prayer.

No scrambling for ideas.
No awkward silences.
Just an easy on-ramp into talking to God together.

3️⃣ PARTNERS

Prayer isn’t a solo activity. Even Jesus prayed with friends.

Our kids learn prayer the same way they learned to walk and talk—
by watching us.

Sometimes my kids pray long, thoughtful prayers.
