My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” ~ Psalm 42:3

In the garden of life, tears are the rain that nourishes your soul.

So, let your tears flow freely, because they carry the promise of brighter days ahead.

Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. ~ Psalm 126:5

It's easy to rush through our days, focusing on our to-do lists and missing the beauty around us.

But Jesus calls us to a different pace—a slower, more intentional rhythm that allows us to truly see and love others.

Take a moment today to pause and look around with an open heart.

Notice the people God has placed in your path.

Listen to their stories, share in their joys and sorrows, and let God's love flow through you.

Sometimes, the greatest act of love is simply being present.

Hey parents! 👋 Today, I encourage you to sit down with your kids and ask them this question:

"Will God love you more if you pray more?"

This question might sound simple, but it reveals a common misconception: the idea that our relationship with God is transactional. 🙅‍♂️🙅‍♀️

➡️ Why it's dangerous: It suggests that God's love is conditional based on our actions, which contradicts the core message of the Gospel.

God’s love is unconditional and rooted in His grace, not our deeds.

Our kids need to understand that they are loved by God not because of what they do, but because of who He is. ❤️

✨ Teach this: Prayer and spiritual practices are vital, but they don't make God love us more. They help us grow closer to Him and experience His love more fully.

Let's help our kids build a faith that's based on grace, not works. 🙏💖

✨ Who is ready to try the seven magic words?

They will make your children feel truly loved and seen.

The magic is here: When I Look at You, I See...

Here's how you do it.

Pick a good time when your child is not distracted or tired.
Look them in the eyes and ask: "Would you like to know what I see when I look at you?"

When you ask this question, you're not just gazing at your child; you're seeing them for who they truly are — beyond their abilities, talents, and achievements.

You're acknowledging the essence of their being, their unique qualities, and the beauty that radiates from within.

If your child gives you permission, unleash the magic with: "When I look at you, I see..."

Here are some examples to inspire you.

💖 "When I look at you, I see kindness radiating from your heart. You have a way of making others feel valued and loved."

⚔️ "When I look at you, I see courage shining through. You face challenges with bravery and resilience, inspiring us all."

🎁 "When I look at you, I see compassion overflowing. Your empathy for others is a gift that brings light into the world."

🔥 When I look at you, I see a deep love for Jesus and a heart dedicated to growing closer to Him. Your faith and devotion are a shining example to all of us, and your relationship with Jesus is truly beautiful.

🎨 "When I look at you, I see creativity bursting forth. Your imagination knows no bounds, and it fills our lives with joy."

The key is to focus on who your child is on the inside — their character, virtues, and unique essence.

It’s OK if your child is not all those things all the time. You are speaking into existence what you feel God has placed inside of them. It’s like that time when God’s angel called Gideon a Mighty Warrior while he was acting like a scaredy cat (Judges 6:12).

Remember, the goal is not to define your child by external measures but to affirm their intrinsic worth and destiny.

May these moments bring you closer together and fill your home with warmth and joy.

17/05/2024

😴 Today, I want to encourage you to add a special touch to your bedtime prayers by speaking blessings over your children based on the meaning of their names.

Names carry significant power. Throughout the Bible, God often used names to reveal His plans and purposes.

Think about how He changed Abram's name to Abraham, meaning "father of many," or how Jesus called Simon "Peter," the rock upon which the church would be built.

These names weren't just labels; they were declarations of destiny.

By speaking blessings over your children using the meaning of their names, you align with God's powerful tradition of speaking life and purpose into existence.

Here are a couple of examples to inspire you.

✨ For a Boy Named Andrew
"Andrew" means "strong" or "manly." As you tuck Andrew in, you might pray: "Dear Lord, thank You for our precious Andrew. I speak Your blessing over him tonight. May he grow strong in faith and firm in his convictions.

Just as his name means 'strong,' may he be a pillar of strength and integrity in all he does. As it says in Joshua 1:9, help him to be strong and courageous, not afraid or discouraged, knowing that you, Lord, are with him wherever he goes.

Bless his dreams and let him wake refreshed, ready to embrace Your will for his life. Amen."

✨ For a Girl Named Hannah
"Hannah" means "favor" or "grace." As you bid Hannah goodnight, you might pray: "Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for our beautiful Hannah. Tonight, I ask for Your blessings upon her. May she always feel your loving kindness surrounding her and know she is cherished and treasured.

Just as her name means 'grace,' let her life be a reflection of Your kindness and compassion. May everyone that she meets catch a glimpse of Your incredible love through her.

Fill her heart with joy and peace, and protect her through the night. Amen.”

Incorporating the meaning of your child's name into your prayers is a powerful way to remind them of their identity in Christ and the unique purpose God has for them.

It’s a small act with a big impact.

I hope this inspires you to create your own special blessings for your children.

If you ever need help finding the meaning of a name or crafting a blessing, feel free to reach out!

There are four specific times when our children need our prayers the most.

These are the times when they need us to pray over them: blessing them, speaking God's promises into their lives, and declaring His protection and favor over them.

🛌 Before bed

🚌 Before school

🏔️ Before a challenge (doctor appointment, school test, trying something new, etc.)

❌ After a failure

Our children need our blessing and prayer right after they mess up.

When our kids make mistakes, it's easy to feel frustrated or disappointed. But these moments are actually crucial opportunities for us to speak life and encouragement into their hearts.

Praying over our children and blessing them right after they've stumbled will help them understand that they are loved unconditionally and that their worth isn't based on their performance.

Here is a real-life example of what this can look like after a rough day at school.

Imagine your son comes home with a disappointing grade. He is feeling down and might even be expecting a lecture. Instead, you sit with him, hold his hand, and say,

"Let's pray together. Heavenly Father, I come before You today with a heart full of love and concern for my son, Max. You know the struggles and challenges he is facing at school, and I lift him up to You in prayer.

Lord, I ask for Your blessing upon Max. Fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and remind him that his worth is not determined by his grades but by the fact that he is Your beloved child. Help him to feel Your presence and love in this moment, comforting him and giving him hope.

Grant Max the wisdom and perseverance he needs to overcome any obstacles in his studies. Strengthen his mind, sharpen his focus, and renew his motivation. Give him the courage to seek help when he needs it and the humility to learn from his mistakes. Amen."

By doing this, you're not just addressing his behavior but nurturing his heart and spirit.

You are showing him that he is always worthy of love and capable of redemption, reinforcing his identity as a cherished child of God.
As a result, Max will learn to see his failures as opportunities for growth rather than a source of shame.

Let's continue to uplift our kids with prayer and blessings, especially when they stumble. It's in these moments that they truly learn the depth of God's grace and our unconditional love.

Comment the word "PSALMS" and we will message you the download link.

Many parents going through the Pray May challenge asked us for ideas and resources to help them pray over their children.

That’s why we came up with a 5-day blessing challenge — to help you experience the power of praying God’s Word over your children.

TRY THIS TODAY
🔥 Download and print the free poster featuring seven Psalms you can speak over your children

🔥 After dinner or before bed, read all seven blessings to your children. Ask each child to pick the one that tugs on their heart and calls their name. "Is there one of these you’d like to hear me speak over you?"

🔥 Write your children’s names next to the Psalms they picked. For the next five days, pray those specific words over each of your children in their presence.

This will be the beginning of a beautiful habit, and something tells us your children won’t want you to stop speaking those words over them after the five days are up.

Let us know how this little experiment plays out for you. We want to celebrate with you and support you in any way we can.

🤔 In which of these four areas do you need the most encouragement?

Comment your number below.

1) PRAYING IN FRONT OF CHILDREN
These are the prayers we offer aloud when our children are present. It's about modeling a life of faith and showing them the power of prayer through our own words and actions.

2) PRAYING FOR CHILDREN
This type of prayer involves lifting our children up in prayer, interceding on their behalf, and entrusting them to God's care and guidance.

3) PRAYING OVER CHILDREN
These are the prayers we speak directly over our children, blessing them, speaking God's promises into their lives, and declaring His protection and favor over them.

4) PRAYING WITH CHILDREN
this kind of prayer involves inviting our children to join us in prayer, fostering a relationship with God, and nurturing their own faith journey.

Over the next four days, our team will delve into each of these types of prayers, offering practical suggestions and insights to help enrich your prayer life as a parent.

But before we embark on this journey together, we'd love to hear from you!

Which of these four areas do you feel you need the most help and encouragement in?

Your feedback will help us tailor our content to better serve your needs and support you on your parenting journey.

Sometimes we have no idea what to say to God.

There could be lots of reasons for that. Tiredness, grief, stress, discouragement, confusion, anger, overwhelm, and so many others.

We want to cry out to God, yet the words escape us.

Our children need to know that it’s OK to have seasons when they don’t have anything to say to God.

No need to force prayer out of them.

Instead, give them ideas of what they could do when they feel like they don’t have it in them to pray.

WHEN PRAYERS DON’T COME EASY

🙏 Take time to be silent. You don’t always have to use words. It’s OK to simply be still and know that God is with you in that moment.

🙏 Sing a song of praise or worship.

🙏 Recite the Lord’s Prayer.

🙏 Look around you and just start chatting to God about what you see or think.

🙏 Ask the Holy Spirit to help you pray.

🙏 Listen to worship music. God may give you just the right song for this season, and the lyrics will become your prayer.

🙏 Go for a walk. Nature has a way of drawing our attention to the greatness of God and drawing prayer out of us.

🙏 Call a friend and ask them to pray for you. Sometimes it’s OK to “borrow” other people’s faith.

🙏 Flip through the Book of Psalms. God might highlight a particular Psalm that will give words to what you are feeling inside.

What do you do when you can’t think of what to pray?

Please comment below and let’s expand this list together.

We diagnose our cars, our health, and our computers but what if we could diagnose our prayer life?

Today, we invite you to gather up your family and evaluate everyone’s current relationship with prayer.

Comment the word "WELLNESS" and I will send you a print-ready template with 10 heart-searching questions.

✔️ DOs and ❌ DON’Ts
This is not about checking all the boxes so you can feel good about yourselves. No one will be getting any medals.

And this is not about making you feel like a failure because your prayer life is a mess. No one will be sent into the corner of shame.

This is simply an opportunity to sit down with your kids and honestly discuss where everyone is in their relationship with prayer.

Kids need to see that even grownups don’t always get it right and sometimes struggle in their prayer lives.

Don’t feel like you have to get through all the questions.

Read the room. You don’t want to exhaust your kids.

It’s OK to spread the questions out or only explore three out of ten. It’s not about getting through all the questions. It’s about getting to the heart and being transparent.

After you download and print the Prayer Wellness Checkup template, cut the questions out, roll them up, and place them in a cup.

After dinner, have a child pick a question and then go around the table sharing your answers.

Let us know how this goes for you and if you can think of any other questions that could be added to the list.

🎁 Comment the word "ROAR" to get this powerful Worksheet Kit for FREE!

Did you know that a key factor in a vibrant prayer life is experiencing ourselves as lovable?

A poor self-image will play havoc with our ability to come close to God.

👦 If your son hates or despises himself, he will assume that God (and other people) feel the same way.

👧 If your daughter doesn’t see much to love in herself, she’ll find it difficult to believe that God sees much to love in her.

Such a belief will keep her at a distance from God.

If we want our children to have a thriving prayer life, we need to help them see themselves as God sees them.

Then and only then will they be able to approach the throne of grace with boldness and confidence (Heb. 4:16).

TRY THIS TODAY
Our self-image is shaped by the words we believe about ourselves.

God’s loving Word will form our self-image while the destructive words of others will deform our self-image.

The best way to help our children embrace their innate goodness and beauty is to connect them to the Word of God so it can transform and shape the way they see themselves.

That’s why I created the ROAR! exercise — to make it easier for children to welcome God’s life-giving words into the core of their being, and as a result, find their Roar! — their fearless prayer voice.

🎁 Comment the word "ROAR" to get this powerful Worksheet Kit for FREE!

I pray that this exercise will help your children experience God’s love in a new and profound way and as a result, come to see and experience themselves as lovable.

06/05/2024

Today, I Dema Kohen invite you to get curious about how your child sees God.

Not what they know about God but how they imagine Him in their innermost being.

Why is this important?

Because the quality of your child’s prayer life will be primarily determined by their image of God.

The way they perceive God will shape what they feel towards Him and how they approach Him in prayer.

I am a good example of that.

For the first 10 years of my Christian life, I perceived God as a celestial policeman who imposed endless rules and demanded strict obedience to them.

Can you imagine what my prayer life was like?

It wasn’t a peaceful or a life-giving one for sure.

Every time I would close my eyes to pray, I felt God’s displeasure and disappointment.

No wonder I rushed through my prayers. The sense of my failure and shame was unbearable.

Only after I experienced God as a loving Father, was I able to approach Him with trust, relaxation, and love.

How we see God, decides how we pray and how we pray reflects how we see God.

Want your child to have a flourishing prayer life?

Give them a better image of God.

TRY THIS TODAY
Our image of God derives from our childhood relationships with parents and other significant adults.

Take a few moments to reflect on your own childhood and how your earliest relationships impacted the way you see and approach God.

Then take an honest look at how your actions, words, attitudes, values, and habits contribute to the way your child sees God now and will see Him 10-20 years from now.

Are you forming the image of God that will help or hinder your child’s prayer life?

LET’S GO DEEPER!
I created a set of worksheets that will help you rate your child’s view of God in just five minutes.

Message us if you'd like a download link.

You might want to go through these worksheets as a family or with each child individually — if it will help them to be more open.

I am so excited for all the heartfelt conversations that will come out of this exercise and for the distorted images of God that will be exposed.

I pray that through this honest exploration, your child will gain a greater capacity to experience God’s unconditional love.

Who is ready to play ‘n pray today? 😊

For this activity, you’ll need a game die 🎲 and this Game Board.

If you don’t have a game die, there are several free “dice” apps available for your phone.

HOW TO PLAY
✔️ Have your family sit in a circle — either on the floor or around the table.

✔️ Explain that Jesus is here with you and that you will take a few minutes to talk to Him.

✔️ Everyone will take turns rolling the dice and following the prompt corresponding to the number they rolled.

For example, if someone rolled a 1, they would offer God a compliment. God, you are amazing! What an awesome sunrise you created this morning!

TIPS
😃 Play as many rounds as you want — as long as everyone is having fun.

🙄 Pray with your eyes open — just as if Jesus was physically sitting around the table with you and you were conversing with Him.

❌ Don’t force anything. If a child doesn’t have anything they want to say on their turn (especially for number 4), no need to make them.

We hope your family likes this game. Who knows, it might even become a tradition.

Want a high-resolution file of the Game Board?

Comment GAME and we'll send you the download link.

Prayer shouldn't be hard, complicated, or overwhelming.

Yet, so often our kids hesitate because they're not sure they're doing it right, not praying as well as others, not as polished and fancy as they think they should be.

The truth is God wants to hear from them — as they are, in their own words.

If prayer feels like a burden to our children, it’s because they are disconnected from their own thoughts and emotions.

Instead of sharing their heart in their own words — no matter how clumsy they are — they are trying to get it just right and end up repeating old mechanical prayers.

TRY IT TODAY
Psalm 62:8 gives us a beautiful visual of what prayer really is: “Pour out your heart before God.”

Next time, before you pray with your kids, fill a glass with water. Have each child take turns reading aloud Psalm 62:8 as you slowly pour out the water into a sink or a bowl.

Ask them: What does it mean to pour our heart out before God?

You’ll be surprised how easily they’ll get it.

Then ask: What’s on your heart and mind right now?

Give them a few quiet moments to get connected to their own heart, and then as a family, take turns “pouring out your hearts” before God.

These prayers might not be well structured or worded, but they’ll be full of life.

If your child has a hard time connecting to their own heart, help them with these gentle prompts:

💧 What are you looking forward to?

💧 What are you dreading?

💧 Has something made you happy lately?

💧 Has something made you scared lately?

💧 What questions have you had lately?

💧 Is there something that worries, bothers, concerns you?

GO DEEPER
Did you know that we have a Prayer Calendar with 365 daily prayer prompts?

This is a great way to help kids discover the joy of hanging out in God's presence and talking to Him about anything and everything.

It’s only $7 and available for instant download.

🎁 Who wants a gift?

Today is the National Day of Prayer and we have a special gift for you! (Read to the end.)

Is there a sweeter sound in all the world than the sound of a child’s prayer?

There’s something about a child talking to God that makes Him seem so real and tangible.

Yet at some point, our children will discover that God doesn’t always respond to their prayers in the time or way they feel He should.

When God doesn’t answer their prayers in the way they’ve asked, our children will come to us with questions.

Whenever possible, we need to give them answers.

However, we must guard against giving pat answers.

Sometimes there will be no satisfactory answer to give.

That’s when we weep, ask God a lot of questions, and keep trusting in His goodness no matter what happens.

We created a special visual checklist to help you be ready for these important conversations.

We called it 7 Tips for Walking With Your Child Through the Pain of Unanswered Prayer.
