There are a few things you probably can’t tell by this photo.

1) It’s 80 degrees out
2) I love being on or near the water
3) Launching and landing a drone from a boat is scary AF

My thoughts on my commute this morning … the “American Dream” is a fu***ng scam.

Your 2.5 kids, your 2300 sqft home that you can’t afford and that takes all Saturday to clean and all Sunday to work on the yard to then spend all next week driving to and from work to sit in a cubical and have some as**at that got picked on as a child micromanage your every minute. That’s freedom? That’s the dream?

I’m not sure what generation said it was ok to work 40-60 hours a week, get 2 weeks off a year, not afford to go anywhere when you take your 2 weeks off and rinse and repeat that for 30+ years and then “maybe” retire and get a gold watch or a plaque.

Why do we have to work and travel at separate times? Why do we have to wait until we are 65 to travel and see this amazing Country?

There is so much to see in this Country and I’m talking about things that are miles away from an IKEA, actually try to stay 100+ miles away from any city that has an IKEA and you’ll really experience what this country is about.

My new home this week.

Every time I can I talk to other nomads about solar and what a game changer it is for this lifestyle.

Just got done spending 12 days at Lone Rock and didn’t have to run a generator or the cost of getting gas to power my rig and run AC’s and now I’m in Moab for a week as well.

You don’t need a system big enough to run AC’s, but you should be able to run your TV, charge your laptops and connect your hotspots.

Again if you are looking for a solar install and want to build a system you can grow into I highly recommend .solutions. My install has been flawless and the install was so clean. It looks like a car show set-up.

Ross Kids Roaring 20’s

A few years ago it hit me that when my youngest (Hope) turns 20 on 4/23 that ALL 4 KIDS would be in their 20’s until 5/16 as Danica would be turning 30 on 5/17.

I started planning about having all of them together early this year and hopefully starting a tradition that no matter what’s going on in their lives, every 10 years from 4/24-5/16 they would make it a point to get together somewhere and celebrate the last few days of them all being in a decade together.

As a dad I was a big dreamer and would come up with lots of ideas for fun vacations or trips and regardless if it was time or money something would get in the way and we wouldn’t go. Nothing makes you feel more of a failure as a father than sharing dreams with kids and those dreams not happening.

But this trip happened.

We rented a 75’ houseboat on Lake Mead with 6 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and had a hot-tub and slide from the roof. Everyone was brave enough to jump from the roof and the rest of the time (when they weren’t drinking) they were relaxing in hammocks, sitting on floaters, exploring and playing games.

I’m so glad this trip happened, lots of really good memories. Way too much food, way too many engine problems, trying to stake the boat sucked, but was just great to have all 4 of them together and there significant others or a friend with them. Well in Hopes case she got to have a +2 as she is the baby princess and Mariyah is like family.

Now I do plan on having smaller get togethers with the kids, but I’m already thinking about their Dirty Thirties and it will be somewhere where someone else drives the boat and cooks the meals … I’m thinking “all inclusive”

Also a big thank you to Nikki for taking this pic (and besides being the best friend/ business partner anyone could ask for) she really made sure the trip went off without any snags and thought of all the little things us dads always forget.

Not going to lie my legs are jello today.

Drove back into Texas to do a hike that said there was a “little scramble” area. I’ll be paying for this one for a few days.

I have really enjoyed the last 2 weeks here at Magnolia Beach and this time not having to run a generator has been amazing.

Solar is a game changer when it comes to boondocking and working. I can’t believe I ran a generator to just simply watch TV or charge a phone. Or the fact every night I had to go to turn it off and every morning to have coffee I had to turn it on. Can you do things before coffee?

Now even though my system will run my AC’s I highly recommend getting a system installed that will run most everything in your rig like it’s on 15amp and pull out a generator when you need to run a AC or a microwave or to top off your batteries on a cloudy day.
