Srinagar, Dec 27,CNS: In view of growing public resentment against unilateral & abrupt decision of price hike of local bread by Bakers(Nanwais), Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri on Friday held a detailed meeting with the representatives of association to settle the issue.

While giving the interim relief to address the crises, the meeting amicably agreed to fix the price of one Roti (approx. 42 gm) at Rs 7 and the price of 3 Rotis at Rs 20 till the Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs department conducts analysis of the market and submits the report.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Commissioner advised them to ensure the availability of Rotis across the division.(CNS)

Drug Peddler arrested at Diver Pattan.

Srinagar Dec 27 :Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested drug peddler in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

Police Sources told CNS that a Police party of Police Post Mirgund headed by IC PP Mirgund at a checkpoint established at Parihaspora-Diwer Crossing Pattan, intercepted one person who was identified as Syed Akhter Shah resident of Diwer Pattan.During search, 5.95 grams of contraband He**in like substances was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Pattan and investigation has been initiated.

We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law.(CNS)

Snowfall: Functioning of Joint District Control Room 24/7 reviewed at Kupwara

Kupwara, December 27: The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kupwara, M Rouf Rehman who is also Nodal Officer for the 24/7 Joint District Control Room, chaired an important meeting today with concerned officers to review the preparedness of the departments to deal with the snowfall situation.

During the meeting, the ADC stressed the need for coordinated efforts among all departments to ensure the timely response to any disruptions caused by snowfall. The key focus was on the effective functioning of the 24/7 Joint District Control Room, which will serve as the central point for monitoring and coordinating snow clearance operations, rescue operations, and addressing any public grievances during the snowfall.

The concerned officers, including those from the R&B Department, Revenue, Police, Health, Municipalities and other emergency services, briefed the ADC on their respective departments’ action plans. It was discussed that snow clearance machinery, essential supplies, and emergency response teams should be ready to be deployed at short notice.

The ADC emphasized the importance of maintaining round-the-clock monitoring of weather conditions and ensuring effective communication among the control room, field agencies, and the public. He also directed officials to enhance public awareness regarding precautionary measures and safety tips during the snowfall.

The ADC directed R&B and PMGSY departments for clearance of all major roads leading towards district headquarters on first priority and inner roads should also be cleared to ensure hassle free movement of people, especially patients.
Arrangements for uninterrupted supply of power and drinking water for health institutions and Government offices were also reviewed and PHE officers were directed to ensure these arrangements.
The meeting was attended by CPO, SDM Lolab, CEO, ALC and other concerned officers

Drug Menace: 2000 FIRs Registered, 3200 Addicts Detained, 400 Smugglers Arrested: IGP VK Birdi

Srinagar, Dec 27, CNS: Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone VK Birdi Thursday said that Police in Kashmir made significant strides in combating the growing drug menace.

While talking to the news agency CNS, the IGP said that over the past two years, the police have taken up the challenge of addressing this issue head-on, resulting in over 2,000 FIRs being registered and the arrest of 3,200 individuals involved in drug peddling and smuggling. "Among them, 400 are identified as hardcore smugglers."

The IGP stated that their next focus is on eradicating illegal cultivation of poppy and bhung in the region. "In collaboration with other departments, the police have already destroyed such cultivation across more than 8,000 kanals of land, significantly impacting the supply chain of narcotics," he said.

Birdi also warned drug peddlers to desist from their activities, emphasizing that stringent laws are in place to deal with offenders.

He revealed that the police have been proactive in seizing properties linked to drug trade, amounting to a total value of Rs 40 crore in the last two years. He added that in the past two months alone, properties worth over Rs 8 crore have been confiscated in Kashmir. "Districts like Baramulla, Anantnag, and Kulgam have been identified as hotspots for drug-related cases, prompting heightened efforts in these areas."

IGP Birdi commended officers who are directly handling drug-related cases, acknowledging their hard work and dedication in tackling this menace.

He urged the public to support the police in their efforts to create a drug-free society, stressing that this battle requires a collective approach. (CNS)

Commissioner SMC Reviews Republic Day 2025 Preparations

Srinagar, December 27, 2025: Dr. Owais Ahmed (IAS), Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), chaired a high-level meeting at the SMC Central Office, Karan Nagar to review the preparations for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations in Srinagar.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the corporation and Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) to ensure seamless coordination and meticulous planning for the event.

Dr. Owais issued detailed instructions to all departments to ensure that the city reflects the spirit of the occasion. He directed the Electric Wing to repair all non-functional streetlights and enhance city illumination, focusing on key locations.

He also emphasized decorating electricity Poles of flyovers with tricolor lighting and festive embellishments to foster a patriotic ambiance.

Highlighting the significance of maintaining a pristine environment, the Commissioner instructed the Sanitation Wing to intensify citywide cleanliness drives. Special attention was directed towards prominent locations and event venues.

With snowfall anticipated, Dr. Owais directed the Mechanical Engineering and Transport wing to keep snow clearance machinery and personnel on standby. Priority will be given to the main event venue and its adjoining areas to ensure smooth movement.

The City Drainage Circle SMC was tasked with ensuring the functionality of all dewatering pumps and deploying mobile units at strategic locations to address any waterlogging issues that may arise.

Dr. Owais reaffirmed SMC’s commitment in making this Republic Day a memorable celebration for the people of Srinagar, underscoring the importance of teamwork and timely ex*****on of all planned activities.

“The Republic Day celebration is not just an event but a reflection of our unity and pride as a Nation. Let us work collectively to make it grand and unforgettable,” he said.

The SMC, in collaboration with SSCL, is dedicated in creating an environment of patriotism and festivity across Srinagar for this important occasion.
