Police in Kitwe on the Copperbelt, have recovered an AK-47 rifle, 2 vehicles and 36-thousand kwacha cash, from 6 criminals, suspected to have been behind a spate of armed robberies in the North-Western and Copperbelt provinces.

Copperbelt Province Acting Police Commanding Officer, TRESPHORD KASALE says the 6 criminals have also been linked to the murder of a Chinese national, who was shot dead last week in Chambeshi.

Mr KASALE says over the weekend police intercepted a Mercedes Benz and arrested the 2 of the criminals, where the police managed to recover the AK-47 rifle, with 6 rounds of ammunition as well as the money.

He says the two criminals later led police to four of their accomplices, who were in a Toyota Corolla, within Kitwe.

Mr KASALE was speaking in an exclusive interview with ZNBC news in Kitwe, after displaying the recovered items.

He has warned that police will not entertain barbaric attacks by criminals on the Copperbelt.

In the past one week, armed robbers have been terrorising businesses in Solwezi, North-Western province, getting away with money..
