Late Irish musicians Sinéad O'Connor, Shane MacGowan, Séamus Begley and Christy Dignam will all be celebrated on a new collection of four special stamps.

An Post has unveiled the black and white stamps to honour the musicians, all of whom died in 2023.

Entitled 'Iconic Irish Voices’, the four-stamp set marks the musicians’ passing and their unique contributions to Irish cultural life and music.

The Irish Film and Television Academy has selected Rich Peppiatt’s Irish language film, Kneecap, inspired by the Belfast rap group, as Ireland’s submission for the International Feature Film category at next year’s Academy Awards.

The film stars band members alongside notable actors like Michael Fassbender and Simone Kirby. It is the first Irish language film to win an award at the Sundance Film Festival and will premiere in Irish cinemas on August 8th.

Kneecap must navigate a competitive process to reach the Oscars, as countries (excluding the US) may submit one film primarily in a non-English language. A preliminary shortlist of 15 will be revealed on December 17th, followed by the final five nominations a month later.

Kneecap has a promising chance, having won an award at Sundance earlier this year. Last year, Colm Bairéad’s An Cailín Ciúin became the first Irish feature and national language title to be nominated in this category, making it to the final five.
