Another amazing addition to our team here at Sound Realms, give a warm welcome to Robert!

This amazing sound editor started dreaming about the life of sound engineering at an early age. With the help of a loving push from his brother, he took the leap and fulfilled his dream by getting a sound engineering degree. After his studies, he later complemented his degree with another in film education and has seen many great opportunities in his career with a lot of projects in the film and gaming industry.

We’re so excited about what Robert will bring to this team and for him to help us make our Sound Realms adventures the best they can be. ⚔️

Lord Zahda is an ancient and incredibly powerful mage. He was once an Elder Magi, chosen to guard the Lorestone of Herdos in what was then known as Castle Khor. Now Zahda is corrupted by evil and imbued with the power of chaos. Zahda is a master experimenter, known for mutating his servants into fearsome monsters and empowering them with dark magics.

Dare you enter “The Fortress of Death” and face the wrath of Lord Zahda?

Castle Death is the seventh book in the Lone Wolf series and one of the most popular, probably due to the classic RPG dungeon-like setting featured in most of the book. In Castle Death you set ashore on the barren Isle of Kohr to enter "Kazan-Oud" which in the Dessi tongue this means "Castle Death". Joe Dever based his PhoneQuest adventure “The Fortress Of Doom” on this book and setting and the upcoming Sound Realms adventure “The Fortress Of Death” takes place on the same accursed isle.

Say hi to Richard Lagergren, the main composer behind the soundtracks of Sound Realms.

Richard’s musical career started as a violinist at the age of 4. The first attempts at composing followed around the age of 7, from what he can recall. From an early age, he would also be performing classical music as part of a string orchestra. Later abandoning the violin for the guitar, Richard is probably best known for his work in heavy metal bands Source and Portrait. A penchant for the orchestral however never left him, and his drawer would over the years get to know plenty of string oriented material. In the composing of games music, Richard’s urge for storytelling via melodies would find a new outlet. “It feels very much at home”, he says.

Varghand AB and Sound Realms are very happy to announce a new collaboration with Studio Recordia in Varberg, Sweden.

Oscar Carlquist, Sound Realms: - It feels great that we will not only rent an office space in the beautiful and inspiring localities that is Studio Recordia but we will also be able to handle a production of any size and magnitude as Recordia is one of the biggest and best equipped studios in Scandinavia. On top of that we can furthermore also rely on the support and extensive sound expertise of Recordias owner and visionary Fredrik Larnemo. This is truly a new chapter in the story of Sound Realms.

The Elder Magi, an ancient race hailing from the realm of Magnamund, played a pivotal role in aiding Lone Wolf's quest to retrieve the Lorestones. Subsequently, they served as advisors and aides to thwart the malevolent deity Naar. Masters of shape-shifting, they lack a fixed physical form but can assume various guises at will. For instance, while Rimoah often manifests as an elderly human male to Lone Wolf, he has also transformed into birds, cats, women, or children.

Sent by Kai, a human-like race from central Magnamund, the Elder Magi were entrusted with Left-handed magic to combat the Agarashi Empire. In 4570 MS, they cast a spell, inducing slumber upon all Naaros inhabitants, and cunningly retrieved the stolen Lorestones from Agarash's grasp. After a millennium-long conflict, they eventually vanquished the Agarashi.

Sadly, their numbers dwindled due to the onslaught of the Cenerese, who unleashed a devastating plague in 2514 MS, decimating nine-tenths of the Elder Magi. However, salvation came in the form of the Herbalish, sparing a few thousand from total annihilation. Collaborating with Lone Wolf, they aided in the Lorestone recovery and, notably, Rimoah served as his steadfast companion and advisor in subsequent adventures.

Upon demise, the Elder Magi transcend to the ethereal Plane of Light. Despite their once formidable prowess, their influence wanes, with fewer than a hundred of their kind remaining.

Zhada Beastmen

In the shadowy depths of Kazan-Oud, formidable and imposing figures stride with an eerie presence. These beastmen, with their towering stature and broad, sloping shoulders, command attention as the guardians and soldiers of this mysterious realm. Their unnaturally elongated arms sway at their sides, each limb adorned with a thick layer of bristling ginger fur. From their grasp extend yellowed talons, curved and menacing, ready to rend anything that dares to oppose them.

As they move with a predatory grace, their long, black tails trail behind them, each tufted end reminiscent of a lion's mane. With keen senses and instincts honed for battle, these beastmen stand as formidable protectors of Kazan-Oud, their ferocity matched only by their loyalty to their enigmatic domain.

Time for another team presentation – meet Linni Lindström, our graphic designer.

Linni discovered graphic design in her teenage years through her photography interest. The way she could be digitally creative fascinated her – she could make everything from treasure maps to packaging designs and patterns. Soon she began to apply her graphic skills into her biggest passion in life – Heavy Metal. She started to work with bands to make layout and design for album releases, posters, merchandise etc. For many years (and counting), Linni has collaborated with Gustav for his Jawbreaker Records and since the summer of 2023 she is also a member of the Sound Realms team where she is in charge of different graphical tasks. Linni is also the pro when it comes to graphic productions, especially for prints. Right now she is busy with producing the physical rewards that will be sent out to our Kickstarter backers later this year!

One concern that has been raised by some players is the fear the app will stop receiving updates at some point, and thus eventually risking to stop working on newer iOS and Android versions. We can assure you that we take such concerns seriously, but the risk is low and managed in our case as we keep the app development in our core team (consisting of the founders of Sound Realms with a very strong experience in software engineering), so we are not dependent on any external party or consultants in delivering such updates. We also continuously and frequently upgrade the app to stay up to date with new software updates (both security patches and to leverage new functionality) as well as in order to support new physical devices, and we intend to continue doing so for a very long time indeed!

After years of conflict and anarchy following The Magiklysm, the rulers of the surviving nations met at the ancient ritual site of Aharak where a stone table of decagon shape called the Aeran had been erected in ancient times. Each of the ten angles was dedicated to one of the gods. This made the table a very powerful artefact, and its surroundings one of the few places in all of Mihr that had not been affected by the apocalyptic events of the Magiklysm. It was here decided that peace would reign among the surviving civilised races and peoples, and that a city would be built at the site of Aharak into which they all would come together to create a haven that would improve their chances of survival. The city was named Decagonia, and around the stone table ten citadels were built, one for each of the surviving nations. Floods of refugees from nations that had perished in the Magiklysm rushed to the safe haven of Decagonia. Now, 600 years later, Decagonia is an enormous metropolis with embassies of almost all known peoples – only the Nightfolk and those sworn to the Dark cannot be found (officially) within her gates. Yet beyond Decagonia’s guarded walls and towers lies a strange and utterly dangerous world where the brave will find countless quests and perilous adventures, a world of deadly beasts, strange magic and forgotten treasures. These are the Forsaken Lands of Mihr!

Time to present our main illustrator – Sam D Larsson!

Samuel has been drawing as long as he can remember, and his visual dreams have changed over the years, from working as a Comic Artist to Illustrator and then finally as Graphic Artist and Art Director in the Computer/Console Game industry. But one thing has always been the same, his love for creating new worlds. Something that came from a passion for fantasy, history and horror at an early age.

Samuel has also a big passion for both tabletop RPGs and Miniature games in his spare time. And solo adventure RPGs like Joe Dever's Lone Wolf have a special place in that shelf. So when Sound Realms contacted him to do old school fantasy inspired art for their adventures, it was a perfect match.

In 1988 you could pick up your telephone, dial the F.I.S.T. number and you were immediately connected to a medieval fantasy world of magic, monsters and great riches to be plundered. A world where YOU were a heroic adventurer embarking on a quest for fame and fortune. F.I.S.T. was the first interactive phone game ever.

The first F.I.S.T. adventure featuring the world of Castle Mammon — Lair of the Demon Prince, created by the fertile mind of games master Steve Jackson (co-founder of Games Workshop and the Fighting Fantasy gamebook series), now returns as it was released in 1988, audio and gameplay intact, but adapted for iOS and Android using the Sound Realms system.

In coming updates of Mace Magic you will be able to play Darek Coldborn a figure that you might recognise from earlier artwork.
For reasons unknown Darek Coldborn was born with ashen, slightly clossy skin that can withstand blows from weapons like if he was wearing chainmail. Darek knew growing up in a small coastal village that he was different and the villagers knew it too. As a young man Darek had a vision through dreams of a white vulture flying through a desolate landscape and he felt that this was deeply connected to his veiled origins. He sought out the place of his dreams where he found a ruined castle that he entered. Darek was mysteriously struck unconscious and woke up to realize that he was wearing a strange helmet that he could not remove. In the room where he woke up was an old cursed mirror and in it Darek saw the hideous face of some unknown entity whose appearance was as if made of black, liqiud fire, it spoke to Darek: "I am Gohrhogh truth bane, I am the one who crowned you with Motricius, a helmet housing a legion of demons. I led you to this place, shadowing your fate since your first breath”.

Sometimes the Mace & Magic logo is accompanied by this helmeted gentleman that goes by the name of Dread Horn. Dread Horn appeared as a lone warhelm lying within a great crack in the mountain of Dargl in the far west of Mihr. The mountain broke during the Magiklysm and the clans of barbarians who populated the mountain spoke of how a choir of spirits screamed in agony louder than the deafening crack of the mountain splitting as a strange tempest of winds ripped through coloured mists during a bombardment of burning hail from the weird skies. When the chaos did lessen in intensity, hunters finally inspected the gorge that was named Ahag (Wound) and found the horned helmet. A young barbarian hunter was intrigued by the helm and unwisely tried it on, his body was instantly transformed to a withered husk as the helm drank both his life force and his spirit. The emaciated co**se fell to the ground but the helm stayed floating in mid air, slowly a black mass emerged from the helm and as if it was a flowing dark liquid formed the shape of a cloaked body. The ghostlike being raised its black arms and screamed with a voice so terrifying that all the remaining barbarian hunters' hairs instantaneously turned white. Terrified they fled the gorge to never return. Dread Horn has since occupied the gorge of Ahag where he rules over an enslaved tribe of Goblins and a Grey Dragon that he has enthralled. If you want to see more of Dread Horn check out a Sound Realms commercial clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUsosTA0fss
