DAY 5 - Rain, Rainbows, and Remarkable People | Camino Primitivo Journey [4K]

From Drizzle to Rainbows: Today's 27km trek from Arzua to Pedrouzo Rua was a rollercoaster of emotions and weather! Starting with a light drizzle, the skies cleared just enough to reveal a breathtaking rainbow after the rain—a beautiful reminder that life’s storms always lead to something brighter.

Fellow Pilgrims: I had the privilege of walking with William from Holland, a retired CFO, and later Donna from Canada, a retired educator. Our chats about life, careers, and cultures reminded me how connected we all are, even from different corners of the world.

The Unexpected Detour: Excited about capturing moments in Pedrouzo, I accidentally went off the trail, only to rediscover the magic of the forest path that took me back to the roots of my Camino journey. Sometimes, detours in life lead us exactly where we need to be.

End-of-Day Joy: Despite the muddy terrain wrecking my shoes, the day ended on a high with a comforting dinner of pizza—fuel for tomorrow's grand finale!

The final 16km to Santiago de Compostela awaits, and I’m cherishing every step of this journey that has been too fast yet so fulfilling.

📍 Rest Day Reflections + Rainy Adventures | Camino Primitivo Day 4

Taking a pause on the Camino is more than just resting your feet—it's about reconnecting with the journey, the people, and the magic of the moment. My day in Melide was all about that reset. I bonded with fellow pilgrims (shoutout to Jere & Cynthia from Texas, and Ding & Dina from California!), indulged in the famous Melide octopus (seriously, it’s THAT good), and felt the kindness of strangers—thank you, Grandma Maria, for your warm hospitality at the B&B! 💕

Fast forward to Day 4, and I’m back on the trail for a stunning 15km walk to Arzúa. 🌿 Picture this: forest trails, sleepy villages, and the sound of your own footsteps. The Camino Francés has a way of making every moment postcard-worthy. But, not every day is sunshine and smooth trails—today, the skies opened up. 🌧️ Cue me battling the wind with my trusty umbrella (who needs a poncho when you can laugh at the wind, right?).

Lunch in Ribadiso was a highlight—just €15 for an epic pilgrim’s meal! 🍴 Good food + great company = pure Camino magic. And despite the rainy finale, nothing beats the feeling of a hot shower in Arzúa and another cozy pilgrim dinner.

Every day is a new adventure out here—new friends, new challenges, and endless reflections. Tomorrow? 22km to take on. 💪 Let’s go! If you're loving this journey, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share your travel stories in the comments. Let’s inspire each other to keep exploring. 🌍 Buen Camino!

Today, I finally took the first step on my Camino Primitivo journey, starting at the 100km marker in Lugo! 🌄 After months of preparation and countless conversations with friends and family, it still feels surreal to be here. I had my share of doubts—fears about safety, my body’s endurance, and even juggling work stress—but there’s always a starting point in life, and today was mine. 🏞️

I’m sharing my 28km journey from Lugo to Ferreira in this video. The weather was perfect, and I had the chance to meet incredible fellow pilgrims from all over the world—Anthony from Australia, Erick from Holland, Gisela from France, and even a couple from Singapore! This adventure is more than just a physical challenge; it’s about stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing the unknown.

I’ve made it to my cozy B&B at Casa Da Ponte and I’m starving—thankfully, I packed some brownies and biscuits for the road! 🍫 Now I’m waiting for a much-needed dinner at 5pm and gearing up for tomorrow’s 20km journey to Melide.

This is just the beginning, and I’m so grateful for this opportunity. Thank you for being part of this journey with me! 🙏✨

Key Highlights:
* 🌍 Meeting fellow pilgrims from around the world
* 🏃‍♂️ Overcoming doubts and embracing the challenge
* 🍫 How brownies and biscuits saved the day (lol!)
* 🛏️ My stay at Casa Da Ponte in Ferreira

🌟 10 days until my Camino de Santiago journey begins! 🌟

2024 is a special year for me, and I would like to commemorate this special year with something different!

I AM GOING TO THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO! :)

Yes, I’m doing it—I’m walking the last 100km of the Camino de Santiago! 🥾 Since I can’t take 40 days off, I’ve chosen the Camino Primitivo, starting in Lugo, and I couldn’t be more excited!

The Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of Saint James, is a network of ancient pilgrimage routes that lead to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. This cathedral is believed to house the remains of Saint James the Great, one of Jesus Christ’s apostles. The pilgrimage has been a spiritual journey for Christians since the Middle Ages, though today it attracts people of all backgrounds and beliefs.

🚶‍♂️ My Route: Camino Primitivo 🚶‍♂️

The original and oldest route, beginning in Oviedo, is known for its mountainous landscapes and rugged paths. The Camino Primitivo is just over 300 km long and starts in the elegant city of Oviedo, home of El Salvador Cathedral, an important pilgrimage destination for many centuries.

I will be starting from Lugo. The city of Lugo, famous for its impressive UNESO-listed Roman Wall, marks the halfway point of the Camino Primitivo. The city is also considered one of Galicia’s best places to eat. From Lugo, the Camino Primitivo takes pilgrims on an old Roman paved road, crossing quiet hamlets, woodland, and quaint medieval bridges. The Camino Primitivo joins the most famous Camino route, the Camino Frances in the lively market town of Melide, some 50kms away from Santiago de Compostela.

Have you ever done the Camino? Do you have any tips? Or maybe some questions about what I’ll be packing or how I’m preparing? Drop them in the comments below!

Buen Camino!
Terence 😊
