Preview
Barring any last minute hiccups, Savannah Marshall and Claressa Shields will finally face off in the professional game this weekend. Originally set for September, the bout was rightfully cancelled due to the tragic passing of our Queen. With so many premature announcements and disappointment in the sport at the moment, let's not jinx the occurrence of this one on Saturday!

The rivalry between Marshall and Shields first kicked off in the amateur ranks. Back in 2012 in the world's championship, Marshall handed Shields her only defeat of her 78 fights in the unpaid ranks. Shields, however, did claim the most trophies, winning both the Olympic gold medal and world championships twice. However, this defeat has no doubt haunted Shields into agreeing to this rematch in the UK.

From a records perspective, on paper this is a smart skilled boxer taking on a powerhouse. However, Marshall is more than just a puncher. With clever footwork, long levers and a fantastic tactician in her corner-Peter Fury- she has picked up 10 KOs within her 12 fight unbeaten career.
Stoppage victories have not been as forthcoming for her American opponent . Shields has forced just 2 within her 12 bouts. She would be correct to argue that her victories began at a higher level. In only her 4th fight in the Pros, she picked up 2 world title belts. Shields' is unquestionably gifted, nicknamed the greatest woman of all time. The 10x2 minutes distance may just suit the American's flashy combinations over her Hartlepool competitor.

Following the ghastly Eubank Benn fight week, we hope the ladies can project the sport back into a good light. A fight for female supremacy, legacy and bragging rights in the middleweight division. Savannah, Claressa time to take centre stage!

🥊🔥Today is set to be a fascinating one in the world of boxing.

After the findings of a positive drug test yesterday, Conor Benn's press conference with Chris Eubank Jr is set for this afternoon. It is still uncertain whether the bout can even go ahead.
It is rumoured that the possibility of using another sanctioning body, such as the Luxembourg Federation, is being considered. This could bring the sport into great disrepute, when the country's own governing body does not have sufficient power to prevent a fight occuring!

Unfortunately in this sport money talks, all involved have made it clear the bout will still take place. But with such public outrage since the news broke, just how can it?

What's your thoughts on the fight going ahead and the impact on Benn's career?

🗞️Wow- what is going on in the boxing world?!

After Conor Benn failing a WADA drug test, the British Boxing Board of Control have now prohibited the fight going ahead 😱

No update from the promotional teams since this latest update! They had previously suggested the fight would go ahead despite the findings.

Hughes v Galahad
Beevers Previews:

🏆🥇Yorkshire rivals in World Level Collision

On Saturday night, Sheffield's Kid Galahad will challenge Rossington's Maxi Hughes for the IBO Lightweight title.
The pair will headline in Nottingham, due to an injury forcing hometown fighter Leigh Wood out of his clash with Mauricio Lara.

Hughes, the champion, has been titled "The Cinderella Man" after a recent resurrection to his career. He is enjoying a 6 fight winning streak since a loss to Liam Walsh in 2019. Stand out victories against Jono Carroll and Paul Hyland Jr were first, before stepping up against Mexican danger man Giovanni Straffon. Upsetting Straffon to win the IBO title, he then dominantly defended against Walsh's brother Ryan last time out. Only recently able to hang up his decorating career for the gloves full time, he will require all of the experience picked up throughout his 32 career.

Galahad has decided to step up 2 weight divisions for this. Initially setting his focus on the Super Featherweight champions, this opportunity up 5lbs further was too big to knock away. Galahad held the IBF title down at 126lbs, beating Scouser Jazza Dickens. Returning to the ring so close after being brutally knocked out by veteran Spaniard Kiko Martinez, has Kid had enough time to exercise those demons?

The victor in this will be looking to challenge for world titles next, a match up with Golden Boy Ryan Garcia was touted for Hughes last year. This a real clash of technical styles. Galahad, although a skilled switch hitter from the Ingle gym, is notorious for often employing rough house tactics. Maxi's mate Josh Warrington discovered just how awkward the style can be in their close fight. With only 5 stoppage wins to his name, it is important southpaw Hughes sticks to his boxing and isn't drawn into a firefight. Cagey early rounds should be expected, but this rivalry contest will ignite live on DAZN.

Heavyweight Joe's
Barra's Big Fight Preview

It’s no exaggeration to say that we truly do live in a golden age of heavyweight boxing, not just domestically but globally. In recent years, either one of these men could be world champion.

Parker held the WBO version from 2016 until he was dethroned by Anthony Joshua in 2018 in his first career defeat, his only other defeat coming to Dillian Whyte in his next fight with both fights requiring the judges scorecard. Since then, he has won 6 in a row including two victories over Derek Chisora. The first against Chisora was a controversial decision to say the least with many thinking Del Boy had done enough to secure the win. However, the Kiwi made no mistake in the rematch putting Chisora down three times on his route to a comfortable unanimous decision on the scorecard. Parker will be more than happy with how camp has gone after he made the switch to Morecombe over a year ago to train with the WBC World Champion Tyson Fury. He’s also being trained under Andy Lee and it is understood that this camp has focussed more on the technical aspects of his arsenal to add to his already impressive strength. JP has 21 KO’s to his name and he will be looking to add to this on Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd at the AO Arena in Manchester.

Meanwhile one could suggest Joyce has been somewhat protected at various times in his career with his most impressive performance for me coming against Daniel Dubois as he secured victory with a 10th round TKO. Joyce is well worth his unbeaten record and let’s not forget he has stopped thirteen of his fourteen opponents in the pro ranks. The Juggernaut has great amateur credentials winning gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth games and finally silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics just a few months before his 32nd birthday. JJ has only been professional five years and at 37 years old he will know that a defeat to Parker could spell the end for any major world title hopes he hangs on to.

It's hard to know who the home crowd will be backing. Naturally, Joyce should get a massive British contingent cheering him on. It is worth noting that Parker’s popularity has sky rocketed since his association with Tyson Fury has grown. The bookmakers have Joyce as the favourite but this one could come down to power and either man are capable of winning with a big knock out.

Priced at £19.95 on BT Box office, viewers can expect an action packed undercard including Italy’s Michael Magnesi taking on Belfast's prospect Anthony Cacace in the super featherweight division and Sarah Mahfoud challenging Amanda Serrano for the IBF, WBO and WBC women’s world featherweight titles. The potential card stealer sees popular Stoke middleweight take on the local Jack Flatley in an intriguing step up. A former English champion and European challenger, Flatley will no doubt prove experienced amateur, Heaneys, toughest test to date.

Barras big fight Review 🥊🎙️

Canelo Cruises to Decision

Well the fight which could not fail to deliver…. Failed to deliver.

Like so many across the globe, I awoke in the early hours with the expectation of watching a classic.
After so much build up and four years since their last encounter , many predicted a Canelo victory but few could have predicted the consummate ease in which the Mexican enjoyed on his way to a convincing victory against GGG.

The first fight in 2017 ended in a surprising draw, with many feeling GGG had done enough to win and the second fight just a year later was a narrow victory for Canelo. Many were labelling this third encounter the rubber and the decider.
From the first bell, ‘Cinnamon’ Alvarez took control and surprised many experts by seemingly fighting fire with fire. The reigning champion used his jab effectively in the early stages and was able to keep Golovkin at bay, the tactics many expected GGG himself to employ. Golovkin started to experience some success in the middle rounds and began to assert control in the later stages. Unfortunately for the Kazakhstan national it proved to be too little too late and Canelo wound down towards the final bell as he made sure he wasn’t tagged with a shots that seemed to increase with power from GGG.

The scorecards were closer than many fans at home would have thought, two judges scoring it 115-113 and the third scoring it 116-112 in the Mexican’s favour.
Golovkin looked all of his 40 years throughout the contest and you have to imagine this will be the final curtain call of a very impressive career.
Meanwhile, Alvarez has responded well to his defeat to Bivol last time out and could be looking for revenge back up at 175lbs next.

UK Fight Night Preview-17/09
Arthur and Wales Derby live on Five!

Lyndon Arthur kick-starts an exciting second chapter of his career live on terrestrial TV this evening. Recently signing with the ever growing stable of Wasserman Boxing, he will top a card featuring a lightweight domestic title. On the trail for a World Title a slip up will not be afforded for “King Arthur”.

The light heavyweight will be looking to impress after his recent defeat in the rematch with Anthony Yarde. Arthur (19-1) takes on the experienced Argentinean Walter Sequeira (25-9-1). Sequeira should pose little threat, former foe Yarde stopped him convincingly in the 4th round. At just 5ft 8, Arthur's dominant jab will be the Argentines issue. A stoppage victory will be Lyndon's desire to impress his new promoters, headed by the Sauerland Brothers.

War of Wales?

The pick of the fights on Five is a contest for the British and Commonwealth title. Welshmen Gavin Gwynne (15-2) and Craig Woodruff (12-6) face off for the formers current belts. Gwynne is no stranger to a Welsh rivalry fight, losing to current World Champion Joe Cordina back in 2019. The champion is on a run of three successive victories since this though impressively picking up the marbles along the way. A closely contested decision victory over Liverpool’s Luke Willis the most recent for the vacant British crown.

Woodruff's record is not quite on par, but will be looking to upset the bookies odds after recently beating Scotland's Ronnie Clark to claim the Celtic title. An opportunity to face off for these titles is a rare opportunity for Woodruff who is accustomed to being in an away corner.

Gwynne, the favourite, should have enough quality over the 12 scheduled rounds against his former sparring partner. Gwynne has spoke of defending the British title 3 times in order to keep the famous Lonsdale belt. It is likely a move onto European honours may then be next for the man from Merthyr Tydfil.

Live boxing for free....?

The show from Bolton’s Stadium Arena will be shown live on Channel 5 from 9pm, showcasing the headliners. The undefeated Light-Middleweight Troy Williamson will feature on the card, as a late replacement. Nathan Gorman was expected to feature, however falls off the bill to concentrate on his mandated British title contest against Matchrooms prospect Fabio Wardley. Darlington’s own British champion, Williamson (18-0-1), takes part in a supposed warm up fight against South American David Benitez (8-7). A much anticipated North East derby with Sunderlands’ Josh Kelly is signed, awaiting venue and date confirmation. You can catch the undercard live on Boxing Social’s Youtube:
