Operation “Spring time dinghy repair” We are in the middle of re-wiring, impeller replacement, a few engine adjustments, new eva flooring, a few new switches, and some new lighting for those nighttime stealth runs. What do you do after sealer and 6 coats of varnish...you San 20% of it off. Apparently my arms and shoulders missed sanding so I gave them what they wanted, day three of wet sanding, headed to day 4! If you like what you see...

Off topic but let’s talk routines and health...my daily morning routine is to juice an apple ginger celery kale orange carrot then blend plant based protein powder rolled oats banana coconut yogurt blueberries raspberries blackberries strawberries all together and Enjoy with a couple of eggs and a few almonds, first mate heads to a couple of eggs mixed with arugula feta tomato and avocado...and of course both of us have an espresso or two! a good way to start the day? Well since we went back into a 3 week lockdown I decided why stop with rebuilding the salon doors, or refinish the pulpit, let’s just strip and sand ALL the exterior brightwork and get some lust down? We are still authorized to work and be at the boat, had a nice weather window, so I went for it. We love the depth and darkness of the teak with , what do you think? This is only the first couple sealer coats, the beauty is waiting to be unleashed, just you wait and see! If you like what you see...

There is always a project, even on your birthday :) we have a Plastek pulpit and it has faded and the black bands are coming out.. After a back and forth with the company they explained how to restore the color and replace the caulking. You can see the difference of the darker spot versus the lighter faded spot. Time to do a tear down and get her looking new again. This also gives me a chance to reseal deck points, polish the bronze bow roller, service the windless, and possibly replace the cleat and anchor. And the winner is...we went with replacing the wood with wood. Because half the crew is from Russia and she grew up with birch trees we selected birch to offset all of the teak. It seemed safe, more private, and retained the nautical wood look. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. Next we need to finish sanding, sealing, and varnishing! Projects keep going. Since we have been doing so much varnishing inside the captain thought it would be great to redo all the exterior brightwork. That includes rebuilding the salon entrance doors. So the question is, do we replace the missing panel with wood again or go with glass/lexan? We love the wood but also love the light coming in and the view looking out, opens it all up? What do you think which should we do? If you like what you see...

Midweek catch-up. We are still doing a lot of varnishing on the salon, I think we are at a total of 7 coats. The plan is to go to 15! Took a break and put handles on temporarily and trimmed flooring to get an idea of what she is going to look like. We couldn’t be happier, modern and simple but keeping true to the nautical heritage of mahogany throughout. Looking forward to resin countertops soon. What do you think? Follow up on my earlier post. A remnant of the “Age of Russia “ 73 foot yacht. It was flown to the US to compete in the 1992 America’s Cup. It would have said “Leningrad USSR”. The yacht was made in Leningrad, in the Soviet space complex where the Sputnik was made. If you like what you see...

Another day another exciting project! Today was the day I started to put all the pieces in to make the refit additions work. I decided to construct a manifold for my water supply. The added piece (dishwasher) needs a supply line and drain line. After completing it (dry fit all hooked up) I think I will go back and make the lines to the dishwasher long enough so I can pull it all the way out and gain access to the manifold in case, down the road I need to get to it, better than removing sink and leaning into the dark a unknown ;). This is clearly not the most exciting post but it points out even the small details are very important! As we get ready for countertops I replaced an old outlet and added another. They were replaced with GFCI outlets. No one will ever see them, but it’s important to take the time and do things right, even if it costs more and slows the project down. Happy boating :)

Well after a brief break on the salon due to life’s responsibilities we are back at it, but not before a day to wash and cleanse the misery of sanding dust and ash falling from the skies. Here she is with her winter canvas even though we really don’t have winter here. We decided to remake new outer screens for the windows and want to keep up protecting her. Happy Friday :)
