HOST UPDATE: Chelsea ✨

Hey roomies!
Hope you’re all well. ☺️
Cheeky little update from me is that I have literally just finished my degree!
Had a very busy year this year, so at this current moment I’m just relaxing and having some down time to myself so I’m working to earn some coin as well as also creating and writing some stories.

Our third episode was such an exciting one for all Hamilton fans! We spoke to Cherry Torres and Alexander Ferguson who were in the Hamilton Angelica Tour!

Now with theatres reopening in America, Cherry is on tour again as principal standby and Alex is James Reynolds on Broadway (he even just did his debut performance of Alexander Hamilton himself, on Broadway)!

These two treated us to so many Hamilton behind the scenes secrets, hilarious impressions and spoke so eloquently about diversity and politics in theatre. Go back and have a listen to this fascinating episode 🎭

In our second episode we chatted to the bright lights of ✨Broadway✨ with the absolute sweetest Aaron Alcaraz! Aaron was a swing in Brooke’s absolute favourite Mean Girls on Broadway which was unfortunately shut down by Miss Coco. 😢
But never fear, Aaron is back on stage in a brand new Off-Broadway production - Trevor - A New Musical! We’re all so excited for him 💖

Scene 33 is live and ready for your listening pleasure! This week we chat to Flick and Tansy Gorman, the writing/directing team behind Slutnik which will be produced by Mira Ball Productions at Melbourne Fringe later this year!

Scene 33 unravels Flick and Tansy as they walk us through their processes of creating a production that celebrates queerness, women and of course glitter! Flick talks us through their process as a writer while Tansy gives us her perspective on what it means to be a director. Collaboration is key for these two powerhouses and Flick and Tansy explain the importance of kind feedback, honesty and leaving your ego at the door. We also learn about post-dramatic theatre and the process of dramaturgy within a university context. You can expect laughter, advice and a lot of interesting conversations with two people at the forefront of their industry.

This episode has been a long time in the making and it’s well worth the wait! Have a listen to our interview with the multi-talented Lucas Stibbard!

Scene 32 unravels Lucas' endeavours as a multi-disciplinary artist, working with young people and the success of his critically acclaimed, multi-award-winning 'boy girl wall'. We chat about taking this production and the educational discussions and differences when it came to the text, as well as the importance of drama as an educational tool. We also take a look at Lucas' new work, '1000 Things I Need To Tell You', which centres around raising a boy and deconstructing masculinity. Lucas also shares his experiences working with shake&stir on 'A Christmas Carol', his love of Brecht and post-dramatic theatre, and the importance of having other hobbies as an artist. This interview navigates the highs and lows of being a full-time artist, and how we can all keep theatre alive.

We recorded this scene during the July lockdown and a lot has changed in the theatre world since then! Unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-situation in Brisbane and Sydney, 'We Will Rock You' has been postponed. While this episode delves into the joyous and amazing creative adventures Carly has been on, we are also sending all the love to our roomies and fellow artists who have been impacted by the pandemic. ⭐️

Chances are you’ve seen our most recent guest, Cessalee Stovall from Stage A Change, smiling from behind the casting table at a recent audition or workshop. On our latest episode we hear about the coaching offered by Stage A Change and how Cessalee is working to change the audition game across the Australian performing arts community.

Scene 30 unravels what it means to be inclusive and gives us that push to be the change we want to see in the world. Having performed in America and Australia, Cessalee unpacks what it looks like to be an artist in both countries and details how she has learnt to navigate the arts while maintaining a healthy life/work balance. We hear all about Cessalee's organisation, Stage A Change, and the incredible work she is doing in the space of diversity and inclusion, giving artists and organisations the tools they need to encourage positive change. The set of the theatre are decorated to look like old crumbling cement over brick work; it is reminicent of a creepy basement. In the bottom right corner stand Jason, our guest, entrenched in his work and pointing to one of the lights out of frame].
