OUR HEROES:- HAJIYA AMMUNA LAWAN ALI OON. 1953 - TO DATE
Ammuna Lawan Ali was born January 13, 1953 to the family of Dr. Mohammet Lawan CON, MBE (FIRST NORTHERN PERMANENT SECRETARY FOR AGRICULTURE). As well as a man destined to be the Pioneer trained Agricultural Expert in Northern Nigeria.
Ammuna Lawan Ali holds a BA (Hons) from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from University of Maiduguri. She has also completed relevant training and certifications.
A renowned Civil Servant with over 30 years of service, Ammuna Lawan Ali commenced her Civil Service Career in 1977, in the Borno State Ministry of Lands and Survey, Maiduguri as a Planning Officer her leadership role in the Borno State Civil Service interalia Permanent Secretary Ministry for Education and Chairman Konduga Local Government Area. She later transferred her services to the Federal Civil Service in 1995, where she served as a Director. She also served in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the Ministry of Finance among others.
Ammuna Lawan Ali was appointed as a Permanent Secretary in January 2001, where she served in several Ministries like; Ministry of Commerce, Petroleum Resources, Transportation, Works, Environment, Housing, and Urban Development. She briefly served in the Office of the Head of Civil Service and the Ministry of Information and Communications before retiring from service in December 2009.
A recipient of the Order of Niger (OON), a National Honours Award for her service to the Nation. She is a Member of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, and member of Commonwealth Association for Public Administration & Management.
Ammuna Lawan Ali chairs the Board of Trustees of African Women Entrepreneurs Program (AWEP). A one time Nigeria’s Governor for OPEC, she is currently the Patron of Women In Energy Network (WIEN) and leads the WIEN Advisory Board.
The above notwithstanding Ammuna Lawan Ali is currently an Independent Non-Executive Director at Unilever Nigeria Plc. Previously, she served as an Independent Non-Executive Director at Oando Plc, Skye Bank Plc (now Polaris Bank), and Africa Prudential Plc.
Hajiya Ammuna Lawan Ali is married to Engr. Ibrahim M Ali and are blessed with children's.
