Nothing really surprises me and it has sadly shown something which we have been avoiding, at a time where the world needed competence and inclusive thinking, we went the way of individualistic popularism. Trump made the deal without the Afghan government, the taliban waited and then moved. Afghanistan has had interesting place in history as the meeting place of many cultures and was a centre of trade along the old Silk Road. Sadly like many things ideology whether imperial, Islamic, capitalist, communist, the people were made to suffer. Now as the world watches maybe a bit fatigued as we wait for American withdrawal from Iraq, and we hardly hear anything about Syria anymore, Yemen has a famine approaching. A new generation will grow up hating the west and making deals with the East, democracy instead of being a shining light now looks dim as we have all neglected it.
