So in the last week I have discovered , I do not have a good bed side manner . Gromolo’s is part Mastiff, Greyhound and slinky dog! 😂😂
Also Gromolo is the worst patient ever and I am so tied of shouting at him, “leave it!”

So a week ago, Gromolo had a tumour removed from his hind paw. the operation went very well and for the first time since I found the lump, I relaxed that it all was good 👍.
I had completely underestimated what the after care was going to Intel .
After picking him up, he was felling very sorry for himself and just wanted to sleep, which is Completely understandable .
He had a very fetching red bandage on the wound, which had to stay on for the first 24 hour. it amazing stayed on, but Gromolo managed to pull bits off, but not bad and it did it’s job.

The hardest part of his recovery, has been trying to get him to leave the wound alone, I was given a cone of shame, but he can still reach it. So I brought the doughnut cone to push up the plastic cone, and you guessed it, he can still reach the wound!
He is now wearing his fleece with a collar to push the doughnut cone up and the plastic one! And yes he can just still reach it!!

Also Gromolo has no self awareness of his size normally, let alone with a cone attached! From being terrified to move when we first put one on, to just charging at things at full speed. 😂
He is finding wearing the cones very claustrophobic and has been growling at our other dog , which again I understand, Gromolo is not very brave and obviously feels trapped by the cones. This has add another level of worry that I can not leave them together alone, also our other dog is trying to lick the wound to! Just to add to the drama.

We have a follow up vets appointment tomorrow, surprisingly the wound does not look to bad and his stitches are okay. There has been no weeping from the wound or swelling. So fingers crossed he has not caused any problems with his licking.

As I wrote this post with Gromolo happily sleeping in his bed under my desk, this is his safe place.

His home!!! the operation went really well, the vets are very happy about the tumour remove off Gromits paw.
My big worries were how he would react to the anaesthetic and will there be enough skin left after they removed the tumour.

He is obviously feeling a bit groggy and not himself. Now the biggest challenge is to keep him calm, so he does not damage the healing wound.

So this weeks post, well it’s been tough. This is my young dog Gromolo, we adopted him on the 4th May 2021. He is a large breed, we think a mastiff cross a greyhound type.

About a month ago we found a small lump, I thought it was like a thorn, that had got imbedded in his paw, but it was not soft. So then we thought a wart, but it kept growing. So off to the vet we went and it turns out that Gromolo has a tumour .
My heart sake when the vet told me the news, he is so young.
I am so worried, this is Gromolo’s first operation, I don’t know how he will react to the anaesthetic . the vet is concerned that the tumour has grown so much they may not have enough skin to close the wind after the they remove the tumour.

His operation is booked for tomorrow and I will obviously keep you all updated on how he does.

Watching your pet be sick, is one of the hardest parts of being a pet owner in my opinion. I hate that they can not easily tell you what is wrong.

Definitely made my day 😂👍.

So just over a week ago I fell off my horse! I am fine and so is she, but it was definitely worth sharing the story and an example of why I don’t care how good you think you are, always wear a riding hat.

For those of you that are new here or don’t know me away from social media, I brought a project horse, she had been left in a field on her own for 2 years.

I wanted to give here a job again and together slowly and give her a voice.
To start with I was working with a feral horse , that did not trust humans and her whole world had changed, which made her Hyper-vigilant.

So back to last week, It was a beautiful sunny day and so I decided to go for a hack around the farm.
Totty was enjoying being out and then we reached an open field, Totty got over excited and wanted to go fast, but me as the rider knew the ground her was slippery, so I said no, Totty did not agree with my opinion of the ground and started cantering on the spot, then her back legs went from under her which sent her into a bolt, but instead of going into the open field, she decided to go next to the edge of the field which is a hedge line, with trees woven in.
So now my horse was at speed heading under the trees, which meant I was now hugging her neck and just to add to the fun, it was very slippery next to the hedge and Totty ended slipping and sliding, a beautiful re-enactment of Bambi on ice!😂 but some how Totty staid on her feet and I did not get knocked off by a low flying brunch. Then we were clear of the hedge and reached the path at the end, I was shocked I was still on board, I had no stirrups by this point and then bang!!!
all Tottys legs went from underneath her to the right and I got thrown off to the left. I landed on my left side but my neck and head took the main force of the fall.

Totty stayed with me as I started to assess how badly I was hurt, then once she saw I was absolutely fine, looked at the pathway we were on ( which funnily enough was were I was planning on having a canter😂) basically went your all good and galloped off up the path without me, so I had the walk of shame to go get her, get back onboard and took her back to the yard, which she was loving life and so chuffed that she got to have a good gallop!

The moral of the story is make sure you have a riding hat! And use it every time you go horse riding.
My hat did it’s job and I have just got a new one to replace my damaged one, which was damaged from this fall. It was an accident that had she not fallen over I would of stayed on, just shows why it’s so important to have a good riding hat and makes sure to keep replacing it ever 3 to 5 years.

Love this!

I just feel it’s time to share our story, so this is Totty.
I have had her for just over a year. our relationship I would say is at the basic level of trust or one toe on the bottom steps.
We have been there and done that, in our separate pasts, we are both unfit and out of shape. I am not even sure what we can still do and if we can even build a partnership that works together. To be honest, walking in a straight line, CALMLY would be our now goals.

I will be writing a post on here weekly, with updates.
I will also going to be filming and upload video on YouTube to show our progress.

So come along and watch the madness that’s my life unfold.

On Wednesday I introduced double lunge lines to Tottie. She more than likely done this type of work before and it was a little heartbreaking to see, she went into a rigid, tense body hold, which shows that she was pulled in and strapped down. She did so well. I did not ask for much and it was lovely to see that she released she could move freely. I thought I would share some of our work with you.

So last September, we adopted a dog from Spain and my goodness what an adventure it has been.

In the first weeks all my family kept saying to me was “ what have you done!” and “ I love you, but I do question you’re life choices!” 😂😂

He was very skinny when he arrived and it was hidden under his big fluffy coat, but his body scare was only a 1 on the scale.

We had our vet check a couple of weeks we had a vet health check and vaccines.

I am so pleased to report that he is now a good 72kg and his body scare is now at a 4!! Which I am over the moon about, I am happy with how he looks and has muscled up.
My vet thinks his still on the skinny side (she could still feel his spine and hip bones), but being so big, I think he is perfect the way he is on the lean side.

But the one thing that Luke has shown since day one, is his love for life and his just one big fluffy hug monster, that just want to stay by your side.

Thank you for all you do Mastins Matters. Xx
