The fabric of our society is stained with historical wounds of injustice and inequality, scars from recent looting and unrest, and the pains that we still deal with from these uncertain times we find ourselves in, also brought on by the global pandemic, COVID19. When one tries to go beyond what the stain is and in trying to deal with it, it is realised how the cause, symptoms and effect are perpetuated by our social ill-being.
UJFM has recognised how the gap created by the misunderstanding of each other's cultural and sexual identity, gender, age, maturity and education can hamper the growth of our society.
On 13 August 2021, UJFM joined AFHCO Student Living in collaboration with UJ Community Engagement, UJ Transformation Division and Fear Free Life to host the Virtual Panel Discussion to discuss unity and perseverance in changing the fabric of our society.
The Movers Mentorship Program advanced into the next category which was social wellbeing, after launching the program with the focus on support and development of young people through education at their first event on 16 June 2021 called "The Education Emancipation of Future Leaders''.
The categories which will follow are financial, health and mental wellbeing, which AFHCO Africa Housing Company strives to enable as a partner in the life successes of young people.
As a society, we still battle with symptoms of growing socioeconomic issues that infest themselves into our communities and our households, which can be easily used as justifications for wrong-doing and unacceptable behaviours.
Fear Free Life, forming part of the panelists, is a non-profit organisation that aims to address crime, violence and gangsterism in our communities with the main aim of crime prevention through skills development, experiential work opportunities and religious and spiritual support. The organisation was represented by Mduduzi Happy Nkomo, as one of the panelists. Mr. Nkomo is a proud and vocal member of Fear Free Life who has found his place in society through being part of the Fear Free Life family.
The discussions were also supported by the University of Johannesburg Community Engagement Unit who actively work with young people in communities.
UJFM played the podcast series on Friday, 13 August 2021 from 6am to 6pm, during various shows.
