In this week's mayor column in the De Leon Free Press, mayor Jan Grisham has her Amendments confused. She says the the right to free speech is the Second Amendment and that it's alive and well in De Leon. Even if she had her Amendments right, the right to free speech is severely limited at De Leon City Hall where citizens have to deal with a toxic atmosphere inside the building or at the drive-thru. If you go inside, you'll see countless cameras pointed at you and multiple signs warning you that speaking your mind can get you arrested.

Why would a Mexican-owned trucking company based in Katy, Texas have the Presidential seal on its cabs? Just another law out of many that are broken on our public roads and no one cares?

How can a person get a trespass warning served to a person when they don't even own or have any stake in the property in question? How can a person post no trespassing signs on both entrances to a property they don't even own or manage, part of that property being a city right of way? Do police even check who owns or manages a property before allowing someone to issue a trespass warning?

So is it legal to display your license plate in your windshield in Texas? Between the ruling in Spence, and the rules issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, almost certainly not. If you would rather pay the $200 fine than drill into your bumper, remember that you are giving a police officer probable cause to pull you over any time they want. Any contact with police can lead to unwanted searches or detentions.

Operating a vehicle with no front plate gives any police officer in any county in Texas PROBABLE CAUSE to pull you over. They could then smell that w**d you're smoking, find your drug stash, catch you with an open container, find out you don't have insurance, find out you have warrants or that you don't even have a driver's license or see that your registration/inspection sticker expired two years ago or that you don't have your child in a proper car seat.
