Hey Friends and Fam,

Just want to send out a quick update as we’ve been pretty quiet on here for a while. Life has been really good, and really busy! Conlee and I are back on land and hard at work. We’ve been keeping our free time busy with other adventures and counting down the days until we’re back aboard Akh’lut. I’ve finally been getting through some photos and video from our last few years of sailing and still have so many stories and memories I’d love to share. Although I always feel like posts need to be chronological, moving forward I’m going to hopping around the timeline and sharing some of our best and more challenging days in the wild so far. Thanks again for being here 💛

Would you agree?

Obviously we’re losing to .sax & on Sonrisa in this one 😂

It’s been a hot minute, busy with life and boat stuff, but we’ve got a new video up on YouTube, and pretty stoked on this one. Our last couple stops in beautiful Southern California before checking into Mexico! We’ll put the link up in our story :)

A little kickback to one of those incredibly beautiful days we had sailing in the Sea of Cortez a few months ago. We’ve been on the mainland for a while, but will likely be heading back to the rocky wonderland of the Baja soon. Also, missing our personal paparazzi who is currently 500nm and closing in on French Poly with her partner in adventure .sax . If you want to read about the hilarious trip and challenges that have ensued along the way, you can check out their blog at https://www.sailblogs.com/member/sonrisa

After meeting up in San Francisco in the fall of 2021, we’ve spent a good portion of our sailing lives with & .sax

We’ve spent countless days racing, sharing meals and swapping stories, sitting around beach fires, playing very competitive games of Catan, and exploring Mexico together.

Tomorrow they depart on their biggest ocean adventure ever, setting sail across 2500+nm of open sea towards French Polynesia.

One of the best and also, the hardest aspects of living aboard a mobile home on the water, is the fact that we are always in constant motion. It’s inevitable that a time comes when we have to part ways with the amazing humans we meet along the way.

Very much wishing we could stay neighbours forever, but also so excited to see where your adventures take you next amigos!

Fair winds and so much love 💛

Another 8 weeks until we’re plying the waters of Mexico again. Work/land life in Canada has been great, catching up with friends and family, and stashing some cash for our next adventure, but once one falls in love with sailing it can be hard to think of anything else. We’re happy that our tiny home is staying safe dry-docked in Puerto Peñasco for the time being and we can’t wait to get on with a few big projects upon our return. Hope all our friends braving hurricane season on the water are staying safe and doing well. See you all sooooon!

Another week, annnd another episode is up on the Tuuube 🥳. In this one we spend our last couple weeks in Canada exploring the Broken Group Islands in Barkley Sound, run ourselves aground just for fun, and challenge ourselves to tack tack tack up the very narrow Ukee channel. The first time up the channel goes well, as captured in a few of these photos, but on our second attempt, we run into trouble 😳. So friends, if you've got an extra 20mins over the next few days, we'd love if you'd check out the vid and let us know what you think! Cheers ✌🏼

Well friends, it's been a hot minute, but we've got our next episode up on our channel! Pretty stoked on this one, set in the picturesque Nootka Sound. We sail up the Tahsis Narrows to visit our friends .matt.now & at the Steamer Point Lodge, do some pretty epic diving, and make a quick stopover at Friendly Cove. Link in our .and.water.sailing bio. Cheers ✌🏼

Well, it's been a crazy and busy couple of months for us, but we finally managed to get another video up on our channel! If you're looking for a good way to wind down your weekend, this episode is full of sailing, our usual adventurous shenanigans and PUFFINS! Who knew we would be able to film Puffins and Albatross just off the west coast of Vancouver Island 💁‍♀️

The story goes, that this moose got struck by a vehicle during its younger days. It now spends its time wandering the woods and wetlands near the house I've been staying at.

It tolerates the relentless barking of the resident black lab, Tess, and sometimes I even catch them in—what appears to be—a fun game of tag, the moose usually winning of course.

I am pretty sure, canine annoyance aside, there is safety to be found under the watchful eye of Tess, and the moose seems quite content hanging with the cows, stealing a lick or two from the salt block when no one is watching.

A change of scenery is always refreshing ✨️

We're missing the boat and being on the water, but it turns out land life is providing much needed time to slow down + take care of a few things that making fast paced miles and living out of service didn't exactly allow for.

Spring has also officially sprung here in Southern Alberta and wow oh wow, we forgot how much we missed the changing seasons! It's so much fun watching the abundance of busy birdlife, the spring flowers pop, and the grass greening up more and more with every drop of rain and ray of sun.

That's right, it's whaley Wednesday! Happy Hump Day 😏

Although most commonly found on inland lakes and wetlands these Eared Grebes (aka Black-necked Grebes)~podiceps nigricollis spend their non-breeding periods in marine environments such as the Sea of Cortez. If the water under Akhlut's hull is clear enough it's quite entertaining watching them dive and swim erratic circles as they hunt their prey.

TB to hanging amongst the Gumtrees of Monterey California surrounded by a few hundred Monarch Butterflies~Danaus plexippus.

These graceful insects take part in instinctive seasonal migrations traveling thousands of miles each year. Although several sanctuaries have been set up along their migrational routes, species numbers are rapidly declining as a result of declining Milkweed abundance. This photo was taken at one of the Pacific Grove sanctuaries where the trees used to be thick with millions of Butterflies, now every year less and less are showing up.

Milkweed is vitally important for Monarchs and is being wiped out due to herbicide use and genetically modified crops.

These Short-Finned Pilot Whales~Globicephala macrorhynchus are one of over thirty-three species of cetaceans known to ply the productive waters in the Sea of Cortez.

These whales are very social and are almost never seen alone. About halfway between San Evaristo and our next stop at Tembabiche this pod of over 20 individuals, including a few mothers with calves, came right over to Akhlut. This was our first encounter with fin whales and it was pretty amazing having them choose such a close pass so we could check each other out 🐳

The Sierra de la Giganta is a rocky range that extends 226 miles, from Loreto in the north, to La Paz in the south. It is the least explored territory on the Baja Peninsula and is made up mainly of dry scrub land.

As we've been exploring the beautiful blue Sea that guards the flanks of the range over the past few weeks, we've been feeling pretty fortunate to have these views as our daily backdrop.

The unmistakable, and always humorously charismatic, Blue-footed Bo***es~Sula nebouxii of Isla Danzante.

These goofy aves are considered a marine species, spending most of their lives on the water. They spend more time on land only when nesting and rearing their young.

The Booby's diet consists mainly of fish, which they hunt by plummeting from daring heights headfirst into the ocean below.
